The creaky slime and moss coated boat sat tied off from the busy hustle of the main port, the lone slime girl humming as she gripped a hammer and pounded the thick rivets into place on her new cross-beam. It was an odd sight to even the deepest space farer, the smart little slime happily repairing a ship older than most residents of the port in her free time, when not busy running messages for the port patrol.
With each day a new board would be placed, new ropes lashed... yet one prominent feature remained of the ship at all times, it's slime. Glistening green like so much lime gelatin, clumps of moss growing across it's surface and constantly dripping. Today the little slime smiled as she sat on the mass and cross-beam, looking out at the dock and waving to the passers-by as she beamed with pride, a series of bubbles rising from her head as she hummed, snickering when they popped and rained down onto the deck.
The odd little alien jumped down from her perch, landing with a squishy thump on the dock before stretching, starting to walk with a casual smile in her eyes as she headed into the busy streets in a mood to explore, and a lack of self-preservation instincts taking her toward a gloomy looking tavern.
The door swung wide open to the dismay of the drunken spacers near it, bright light shining on them. The happy looking slime glanced around in response to the irritated groans and glares of the spacers before tromping across it towards the counter. Reaching into a pocket she'll set a shiny coin on the counter and point towards a loaf of bread before her eyes shift to the old barkeep who sighs, thumping the loaf on the counter before she snags it and turns on her stool to watch the bar like one might watch a sports match.
The annoyance of the gruff occupants was lost upon the little slime as her feet dangled.. legs seeming to stretch as the weight of her boots pulled at them, the bread in her hands casually pushed against her mouthless face, sinking into her gooey figure and dissolving before the very eyes of those at the bar. It seemed lost on her as to why she eventually found herself the last one at the bar, those that watched her eating having cleared away. When the door swung open again and a group of crude and worn out spacers stomping in, and stopping with a confused look at the empty stools at the bar, except the bright green little slime eating her bread.
After the momentary confusion passed, the group grinned, making their way up and settling, surrounding the alien as she looked up at the lot of them, head tilted as the bar keep provided their ale but quickly kept his distance.
"Would ya look et this boys.. we got ourselves a new face.. weird'n aint it?.. " came the jeering voice of one of the gruff crewmen closest to her.
"Never seen nothin' like it!" another chimed in before he was swatted upside the head. " 'Course we 'ave, looks just like the slop a slug leaves behind!" was added before roaring laughter came from the newcomers. The little slime just tilted her head, looking at them as she continued the gradual devouring of her bread, a raised look coming from one of the closest of the gruff spacers.
The tavern watched as the group mocked and tried to rile up the little slime, who seemed oblivious to the attempts, simply observing them in return, each failed mocking getting a deeper scowl from the leader of the spacers. As the last bit of bread vanished within the semi-transparent alien, she just offered a wave to the barkeep, standing a bit wobbly as her stretched legs slowly settled back to their proper height and she started out, the mocking crew at the bar looking irritated as they began to stand, starting for the door themselves.
The group slowly followed, irritated as they watched the oblivious little slime, slowly drawing closer and closer before one reached, snagging the collar of her coat and pulling her with a squishing slurp from her boots and into an alley. The dark chuckling of the spacers got a tilt from her head as she gazed up at them, a splashing sound echoing down the alley when the strong fist of one struck her face, a spattering of slime spreading across the wall as they all laughed.
"Ignore us will ye?.. not takin' that from some little slug-droppin' " The leader of the crew growled as he wiped the slime from his knuckles, an eye twitching as she just looked up at him with a curious head-tilt. Another fist followed soon after, the crew having moved to block sight down the alley as their leader's fist struck at the soft gelatin-like form again and again, his anger building as each blow was met with that quiet and innocent look afterwords.
Minutes that felt like hours came to a stop as the sweating pirate glared at the little slime, the wall and ground about her smeared with splattered slime from each strike, the alien looking a bit wobbly herself as she frowned up at the man now. He reached, grabbing the collar of her coat and lifting the confused little alien before the sound of tearing fabric made her eyes widen. A splash sounded as she fell, the collar of her coat torn roughly as the pirates all began to laugh a bit.. her hands reaching quickly, grabbing at it and staring before her eyes, no longer so bright and innocent fell upon the spacer captain.
There were odd whispers as people walked past the alley, the pile of battered and bruised spacers noticed not long after, and word spreading to the authorities as the little slime sulked her way back to her ship, holding the old and time tattered coat in her arms and running her fingers along the deep tear the cruel captain had split down it's back as he tossed her around, those nearest her ship looking confused as the normally happy alien didn't even wave before she climbed up onto the slime-coated ship and sulked below deck, holding the keep-sake the old captain had left her when he passed.
