This was really fun! I used one of the old WPA National Park posters as a palette swatch. Definitely not easy, but still really fun.

Ranger Ed’s seemingly been at the park since the dawn of time, though he’ll tell you he’s been there for about twenty years. Anyone who works at the park for a summer will tell you what a feat this is, considering many don’t last more than three. He’s an old hat and the man called in when a job needs done, whether that’s clearing out pot farms and folks who won’t leave without a fight, or keeping your ass alive when you did something stupid. Admin is present or not, he’s the de facto leader and smart rangers make sure to listen and listen up good when he says to stay quiet.
Officially, he is one of the cultural interpreters with a knowledge of the First Persons who lived there and in the surrounding areas. Though as with most parks, he and all of the rangers all fulfill multiple duties at once; his specialty is fixing up machines and making sure whatever’s broke gets fixed--be it a radio or jeep or a person’s leg. What he can’t really fix, unfortunately, is being an old man, and while spry, he’s not as agile or strong as he used to be with old scars that protest in winter, sometimes confining him to desk duty.
Younger rangers have an unofficial rule regarding Ed: If Ed gets called out, there’s trouble brewing. If Ed brings his shotgun, you have reason to worry.
If Ed tells you to stay quiet, and keep off the lights? You do as he says if you want to live.
Outside of keeping people alive, Ed has a fondness for playing his cigar box guitar he made years ago. When chores are done and blue hour is approaching, he likes to sit on the ranger lodge porch and play his guitar as evening falls on the park. Sometimes he’ll play later into the night, when rangers are out. Maybe hoping to provide a beacon home. Maybe hoping to keep something away.
