If you don’t mind my asking, did you follow a pattern for the rainbow star EPP project? I love the look of the quilt, but am still pretty new to quilting and want to figure out what size hexis I need to fill in between stars! Thank you!
Hi! I’d be happy to share some of what I did.
I didn’t use a pattern for this project, just observed images of others’ quilts and worked it out from there. I really enjoy the process of figuring out patterns on my own (and I encourage others to as well! It’s good for your brain!) so for stuff like this I sit and think and draft it out on paper. All of the paper pieces I used I cut out by hand.
Drawing out and cutting pieces of different sizes will give you the best idea of what will work for you. You need to consider what works best with the fabrics you’re using and how big the finished product will be and how it feels to work with in your hands. It’s all geometry, so make sure you’re working with the right angles (120 and 60 degrees).
The easiest thing you can do is buy some templates or precut pattern pieces to work with, but cutting your own is always an option! If you want tips on that, let me know, I’ve got plenty.
Go forth and good luck!
