FFxivWrite 2022 FFxivWrite22 Masterpost Prompt #19: Turn a Blind Eye A stabbing. A brawl. A mugging. A pickpocket. It didn’t matter. In Pearl Lane, all crimes were equal… at least, in the sense that they all went equally ignored by the Brass Blades. Mind you, it wasn’t because they were absent. Almost always they were there, patrolling, sometimes throwing their weight around in meaningless gestures of posturing. It seemed most were too lazy to deal with actual problems, however. Sometimes they would deem fit to step in… but all it took was the sparkle of some gil to convince them to turn their eyes away. But Faye saw… she saw most things when she was in the Lane, watching, and she stored that information away in her mind. One never knew when such things could prove useful.

First interpretation of the world building of Earthsea compared to that of Middle Earth is that Ursula Le Guin is good at getting to the point… ehem… At first glance, Ged’s home is not much like the Shire in terms of appearance. It doesn’t necessarily feel as isolated, and she describes it as being near mountains and forests, which the characters within the world don’t seem to be too warry of. In fact, when under threat, they “Fled up the ravines and hid in the forest” (10). There are some similarities, though, namely I found that both cultures are peaceful, for in the same instance, Ged’s village was caught off guard by the attack as “There had been no weapons in the village but hunting bows and short knives, for the mountain folk of Gont are not warlike” (10). Similarly to the Shire, Gont does not expect war nor does it prepare for it.

I also learned that I can easily pick Evan up, which embarrasses him so much. I gave him a few goodbye kisses, and he tasted so good. With how my hunger’s been ramping up, I was a little worried I’d take a few bites.

Just a normal day at the Phoenix household. Everyone was winding down from the day's activities. Kanami was resting on the couch with a sleeping Carbuncle in her lap. Alistair was returning with two cups filled with tea and he placed them on the table in front of the couch. A wolf-like familiar was sleeping in front of the fireplace. “Hey, Ali?” Kanami pet the top of the Carbuncle's head. “Yes, dear?” Alistair responded as he sat down next to Kanami. “You ever wonder what Alicia dreams about?” She asked him as she stared down at the glowing creature. Alistair squint at Alicia, wondering what she was dreaming about as well. ---- Alicia was lounging on a long, elegant, and royal blue couch in a large throne room with many pieces of décor and furniture in her likeness. Beside her was Kanami dressed in a white gown, petting her gently on top of her head. Beside the couch was the wolf-like familiar that was in front of the fireplace. Alistair could see himself approaching the couch with a plate of chocolate and cookies, he was wearing a white, loose fitting robe. He knelt down and bowed his head to Alicia. “Your desserts, Queen Alicia.” Alicia smiled at him. “Excellent timing, Alistair. Feed your queen.” Alistair smiled, stood up and approached Alicia, who was waiting with her mouth open. “Yes, your radiance.” He proceeded to feed the Carbuncle a piece at a time. “It's good to be the queen.” Alicia giggled before her next bite. ---- Alistair blinked and could now see Kanami looking at him curiously. He felt a bit of sweat collect on the side of his head. “Ali, is there something wrong?” Kanami frowned with worry. Alistair shook his head. “Oh no, just... Alicia dreaming of... cookies...” He side-eyed the Carbuncle in Kanami's lap. Alicia was smiling innocently as she dreamed peacefully. @darkamaya

I realize- well, I knew it for a long time. That I don’t like too much attention. It’s fine among people who I’m really close to and used to having around. But when it isn’t... just today I changed my profile pic on Facebook. And before changing it I had all these thoughts on what people would think or would they question it and how I hate that Facebook posts that we changed our profile pic- it’s not even a pic of me! It’s just a drawing I found on freakin google! I should really stop caring what others think. xxx That’s actually something I suffered through a lot in high school. Getting attached to people too quickly- by myself. I would give thought to and care about others more than they would for me. Or that’s what it seemed like. I mean how else would you interpret being left out of this and that and then given apologies because they ‘forgot’ or ‘didn’t notice’. I felt we got closer as the year went by- but that I also have to thank someone else for. I met someone who filled up that lonely space completely. I didn’t totally stop thinking of how others felt towards me after I met this person but it mattered a lot less. xxx But I felt the people who I cared for by myself- became really close to me after I started hanging around that person. They noticed me more because that person noticed me more. Not that their love for me isn’t genuine. It is. I know that. It is now at least. But sometimes I wonder would it be this way if I hadn’t met that person? Would they notice me? Care for me? It seems that my existence to them is mostly related to that person. Parts of me want to know and parts of me don’t. 01/18/2018

Tears burn those sapphire seas making it hard for Davina to see. Cynric’s pleas tears her apart. Her mind frantically grasps at straws. Part of her still hammering it into her that it isn’t a good idea for her to adopt a child because she isn’t healthy, but how could she bring herself to deny him? He’s a child and all he wants is to stay here. Her knees shake while she lowers herself onto the ground with him. Finally face to face with the Hyur boy her heart caves, and she loses the battle of wills. “You can stay..” She isn’t able to get out the full sentence for Cynric throws his arms tightly around the back of her neck. Toned arms of the doctor encircle the child and she pulls him onto her lap. Fiercely embracing Cynric the two sit there in silence. Neither of them daring to speak another word as they cling to one another. Davina could uphold her vow to his parents and ensure that he is safe. And maybe....just maybe.... raising a child could help heal the wounds left by the Garleans and Eadmer.
