i need gorillaz fans to understand that the “lore” or whatever will NEVER be as good as what they were expecting bc gorillaz’ marketing strategy is based completely around hype, which will always result in disappointment. anyone that wants a crazy story is missing the point. the gorillaz characters are supposed to be the artists behind the music, but this isn’t the case at all anymore bc they broke the illusion. they’re basically mascots now. gorillaz was created to satirize the ridiculousness of celebrity culture/worship, not to tell wild, meaningless stories with heros and villains. they destroyed themselves by depending on fan service. complete 180.

gorillaz is actually so cringe now it’s insane hejdhfighdkrbfk. i truly don’t understand how the fans can’t see that they’re being taken advantage of and talked down to. gorillaz is not supposed to have an ongoing “plot.” they’ve been telling vague, bad stories that stretch out for months for years now, and they mean absolutely nothing. it’s just to get people talking about them so that they trend, and then people will buy the music. i want them to go back to social commentary so badly.

i feel like a gorillaz movie would be the nail in the coffin for their schtick, which is that the characters actually exist and are real celebrities, (even though they haven’t bothered to incorporate this into the project since 2018 i believe). unless the hypothetical movie is a mockumentary, which it was not going to be, it would have been terrible. they’ve already tarnished their legacy by becoming lore-heavy instead of sticking to social commentary through character interviews and music videos, but a movie would probably be seen by a lot more people, so they’d become known for a shitty action-adventure flop instead of their music.
