We’re all getting together for the holidays. I thought for a long time about the best way to do this, and after a great deal of work, I concluded a mass email, 24 hours before the day of, will be the best option. Here is my first draft. I’ll probably reblog it as I find and fix typos or word choices:

I want to give everyone a head’s up on a couple of major changes for me, and one minor one, before tomorrow. All joking aside, please take a minute to read this through.

First, and most importantly, I’m growing a mohawk - a real life genuine mohawk.

Obviously I am aware that a person can’t grow a mohawk without expecting a reaction from other people. But if we could try and keep it low key, I am aware of how I look, it’s not a big deal. Also, I’ve only been working on it for about a year, which may seem like a long time, but I’m still just halfway done, at most. (The front half, if you're curious.) I’m a little bit sensitive about how my hair looks right now, so please try to be considerate of this.

Of course, if you want to tell me how great I look that’s fine. It’s always nice to know my weird hair looks good.

I’m hoping no one is going to be upset by my decision to grow a mohawk. It is, after all, my hair, and it’s more important that I’m happy about it than that it make other people happy.

However, I am also aware that some people find mohawks offensive, and are not comfortable around mohawks. There are even people who feel like having children around mohawks is somehow dangerous or inappropriate. I’m mostly certain our family isn’t like that, but I wanted to make sure everyone was aware.

So, yes, most of my head is shaved, I look wildly different. Please try not to get too crazy about me looking different than you’re used to.

Next I need to mention my clothes, because this is the second major change and it may be the most shocking change of all.

I know you are all used to me wearing the same sorts of clothes every time you see me. I’ve been wearing black oxford shorts, black jeans, and black dress shoes ever since I had input into how I dress.

Therefore I have to ask everyone please not to make a huge deal over the fact that I’m not wearing black clothes tomorrow. Believe me, I have heard every possible joke pertaining to the regularity of my wardrobe. I’ve also heard all permutations of commentary which can exist on my change of wardrobe style from Kit. We live together, so she’s had over a year to tease me about it. For anyone concerned about small children, I hope you'll be okay explaining my change in appearance for tomorrow.

Again, if anyone wants to tell me I look great, that’s cool. Just please please try to avoid jokes about my clothes.
