Southern accents are notoriously badly done on tv (and FYI not everyone from Texas has an accent or even the same one but that’s a rant for another day), but Jemma is still adorable

Yeah, this gets a -500/10 on the Aida Shenanigans scale because really?? Oh yeah, and a 50000/10 on the RADCLIFFE NO scale because really??? NO. Also Vijay gets my Cool Inhuman Award for this episode. You deserved better that being betrayed by your sister. But also he gets the Listen to Jemma Simmons Award. LISTEN TO JEMMA.

I mean they gave me this episode’s song in the beginning, so please enjoy the Adagietto from Symphony No. 5 by Gustav Mahler. This is legitimately one of my favorite songs in the history of the world, so sit back, close your eyes, and think of someone/something you love. If you can’t think of anything then just know I virtually love you, and I’m sending you a thousand musical affirmations of love.

@whistlingwindtree to respond to all your comments about Nadeer in one place - hopefully I wasn’t giving off the impression that I sympathized too strongly with her or was trying to excuse away her actions. I frankly find her a despicable person (although an effective villain) and I don’t at all feel for her in the same way I do, say, Lucy Bauer. I don’t like Nadeer so I’m definitely not trying to persuade people to “see good in her” or whatever - I was simply commenting on things that struck me in the narrative. 

I do think she genuinely loved her brother (or at least thought she did) before she knew he was, without doubt, Inhuman, and her blackmailing Mace in order to help get Vijay out of the cocoon was a reflection of that (as well as of her own sick desire to manipulate Shield). Once he started demonstrating superhuman powers, though, her hatred and prejudice took over completely and she killed him. I don’t think it’s something she wanted to do so much as something she felt she had to do (since he does talk her out of it earlier on when she doesn’t know he has powers yet), but yeah, she still murdered her brother in cold blood because he bore a superficial similarity to the aliens that killed their mother, so at that point I have no sympathy for her. 

Can love overcome prejudice? Certainly, when - as you said - there’s actual effort put into it and the person has a genuine desire to do better. After all, Simmons was pretty freaked-out by the idea of Inhumans at first, but came to accept Daisy’s transformation because she (Jemma) is a good person who cares for her friends. The same can’t be said about Nadeer. I think her love for Vijay the human certainly existed, but not for Vijay the Inhuman. Her love was built entirely upon conditions, and so prejudice overcame it. 

So yeah, I agree with you that being ‘liked’ and being genuinely loved and respected for who you are are two very different things - and that without the latter, the former is pretty hollow and meaningless. I’m sorry you’ve had to deal with racist people like that. (And I know that me saying “I’m sorry” does absolutely nothing to change any of that, but I do genuinely mean it.) 

i mean, three very public figures on either side of this inhumans/humans/SHIELD mess are down for the count, it literally is an unmitigated disaster

just imagine if this was the real world and we had a United States Senator bombed in her own office, the head of a federal agency washed up ashore with his bones in pieces, and a US military general shot in the head - whatever agency that’s caught up in it is not gonna recover
