One Piece 2.01 "The Beginning and the End"
a positive word on jacob romero as usopp because i feel like heâs been a bit overlooked at first - so: besides the usual top tier OPLA performance suspects (emily rudd - she fought 3 years to be nami and it shows - and another funky jeff ward masterclass) alongside david dastmalchian as a hyper-sadistic, scene-stealing mr. 3 plus the breakout performance of mark harelik/doctor hiriluk, jacob also has to be mentioned as the standout in the series. he brings in all of usoppâs chaotic facets, quirks, energy, raison d'ĂŞtre, make-believe, and his presence fills the screen with atmosphere. usopp/jacob is like bass in a band, you notice when the contribution is missing. even people who werenât happy with the second season havenât mentioned him once (if you donât stand out to a hater you canât be clocked i guess? safe to say people like him all across the board). itâs just like jeff who melts into the franchise so organically while adding his own fun flavor to the part, making the role his natural home, especially through body language. which is difficult because jacob has to make it clear that usopp is a person who pretends to be someone else. so jacob has to act as if he was an actor within the acting (lmao itâs insane) and make it obvious to the audience as well, which he succeeds at. heâs believable and straight out of the anime. OPLA really brings this all to life with itâs own logic itâs crazy.
EDIT: this tweet just about sums it up, jacob really elevated the role. Â
CROSS GUILD IN LIVE ACTION LOOKING CRAZY HOT IN COSTUME
(live action will probably never get there but still!!)
Thanks to hindsight and Jeffâs understanding of Buggyâs backstory as a whole opla!Buggy, even with him not living to his full potential as a pirate, Feels like he was raised by the most dangerous motherfuckers on the Blues
The way he talks, they way he presents himself, the feeling of danger and menace he casually exudes even when he is the funniest shithead around
There is a cloak of melancholy to him, yes, and he is such a pathetic wet cat that itâs incredible that he is still alive to keep on sulking about Shanks but there is also an aura of âI was raised by men who killed another with their teeth in front of me when I was seven bitch do not fuck with meâ that he could only acquire inside the welcoming wood walls of the Oro Jackson
