Chapter I: Awakened (Pt. V)
âI love you,â MĂźrwen whispered to me at long last. Â
I had found myself staring at her face while she rested for a time.
âI am glad,â I said. âI love you, too.â
âAre you as happy as me,â she asked.
âI am not sure,â I said. âI do not know how happy you are.â
She kissed me tenderly and I felt a quaking run through my body.
âI am extraordinarily happy, OrothĂŽn,â she said quietly.
âThen I am afraid I am far happier than you, MĂźrwen.â
She smiledâher eyes seemed to sing to mine a love song only I could hear. Our gaze seems to take us away to a paradise beyond what was promised until it was disrupted by an elven maiden I did not recognize coming into our sanctuary.Â
âMany pardons,â she said. âI was set by the Lady Orowen.â
âNĂĄrwen,â MĂźrwen said. âYou have not yet met OrothĂŽn. NĂĄrwen is the wife of Galathil.â
I nodded uncomfortably as I had not risen to cover myself properly.
âI was present at your joining,â she began. âIt is a pleasure to meet you.â
âLikewise,â I said softly as I tried to keep myself covered.
âWhat does mother want,â MĂźrwen asked.
âShe only said to send for you and your husband,â NĂĄrwen said. âThere are whispers among the EldaliĂ«. I do not know what they are saying but it must be of great importance if it concerns ElwĂ«.â
âTell my mother and father we will come shortly, NĂĄrwen,â she said, her voice trembling.
NĂĄrwen bowed and left quickly.
âYou are worried,â I said.
âYes,â she whispered. âI know what is on the lips of the EldaliĂ«.â
âDo you wish to tell me,â I asked.
âYou have seen one whose sadness lingers in your mind even now,â she answered, as her gaze on me felt chilling. I did remember the maiden with pain in her eyes.
âThe one that walked with your mother,â I said.
âShe is TaurĂ«a, wife of LenwĂ«,â she said. âTheir son is Denethor. He is close to my brothers. Not all is as it seems, OrothĂŽn. Not all of the EldaliĂ« wish to go beyond the mountains.â.âĂlengolas spoke of that,â I remembered. âLong before we left the shores of CuiviĂ©nen.â
âMany of us did leave,â she said. âThere are some that remained. Something has hardened the heart of LenwĂ« causing discord between father and son.â
âI can see how that would pain TaurĂ«a,â I said thinking.
MĂźrwen took my hand and kissed it. She looked at me; her eyes full of tears.
âWhat will become of us, OrothĂŽn,â she asked.
âWhatever comes, we will face it together,â I whispered as I kissed her forehead.
**** **** **** ****
Once we were ready to leave our sanctuary, we emerged to an eerie calm. Nothing seemed out of place. Couplings surrounded the trees as we made our way to a sparsely occupied place where my new household held audience. When we were noticed, Galadhon approached us with another elf close behind.
âOrothĂŽn,â he began. âI do not believe you have met Denethor, son of LenwĂ«.â
âNo,â I answered, bowing to him. âIt is an honor.â
âFor me as well,â he said gleefully, turning to wife. âLady MĂźrwen, you are looking more beautiful than before. Love agrees with you.â
âAnd with you,â she answered. âMay I inquire about Arethuil?â
âShe is with Mother,â he said, his demeanor changing. âBoth are with Orowen.â
âThen I shall join them,â MĂźrwen said. âI will leave you to your ways.â
Galadhon and Denethor bowed as she left my side. I felt lonelyâeven with Galadhon standing beside me.
âCome, OrothĂŽn,â he said. âAs one of us, it is your right and obligation to attend council.â
We made our way toward a clearing the forest where I could see ElwĂ«, Elmo and LenwĂ« sitting with other elvesâGalathil among them. As we grew closer, we heard discussions.
âWe must leave as quickly as we can,â Elmo said. âBeyond these mountains above us lies our path to Eldamar.â
âI do not understand why we must hasten westward on hope alone,â LenwĂ« argued. âIf it was of urgency, we would have followed IngwĂ«, FinwĂ« and your brother OlwĂ« beyond this wood.â
âOur minds are our own, LenwĂ«,â ElwĂ« answered. âThis much is true. But we are not alone. As the chosen of our people, it is to them our thoughts must belong.â
âWhatever is decided,â Galadhon said. âMay it be soon as Celebriel is quick with child.â
âThat is wonderful, brother,â Galathil said upon our approach. âI am proud for you.â
âThis is cause for celebration," ElwĂ« said smiling. âMy dear brother has started a legacy. May it last the ages.â
As we gave our blessing to Galadhon, I could see LenwĂ« fuming to himself.Â
âEnough,â he finally said. âI will give you my decision upon our audience next.â
He stormed away, het his son did not follow. After moment of silence, a voice broke through the tension.
âSo, my first born son is to become a father,â
It was Orowen with Taurëa, Nårwen, Mßrwen and two other maidens with whom I was not familiar.
âYes, Nana,â Galadhon said as he took the hand of one of the three.
Celebriel was an elf of great beautyâher flawless skin was kissed by golden tendrils that fell effortlessly to her waist. The one Denethor went to was Arethuilâequally as beautiful with long golden hair and eyes clear as water. They seemed lost in each other; as they were the only ones in the world. MĂźrwen approached me with a smile on her face.
âArethuil, have you met OrothĂŽn,â she asked. âI know Celebriel has yet to do so.â
They bowed reverently as Taurëa came to me.
âYou are OrothĂŽn,â she asked.
âYes, My Lady,â I answered nervously.
âI see many great things that will come from you. A great many things.â
I had no words to sayâher presence was overwhelming as ElwĂ«âs.
âIt is good to see you, TaurĂ«a,â ElwĂ« said.
âYou are too kind, ElwĂ«,â she said bowing.
âWhere has LenwĂ« gone off to,â Orowen asked. âWas he not with you? ElwĂ«? Elmo?â
âHe was,â Elmo said. âHe has taken his leave for a time.â
âYou must go the way of the EldaliĂ«,â TaurĂ«a said. âNo matter what may come of us.â
âWhat are you saying, Mother,â Denethor asked concerned.
âYour father has made his decision,â she said. âI will remain with him as his wife.âÂ
âYou know these things to be true,â ElwĂ« asked her.
âI know my husband, ElwĂ«. I have made peace with the part of him that will not be moved. For better or for worse.âÂ
âThen I shall stay with my parents,â Denethor said angrily.
âNo,â TaurĂ«a answered, âYou will go forth beyond the mountains as it is your destiny.â
TaurĂ«a looked aroundâas to remember something long lost.
âWhen you leave,â she began. âDo not return to look for me.â
She turned away and left briskly in the direction of her husband. The she was gone, everyone seemed like they were searching for words to say.
âGo your way for now,â ElwĂ« said. âSoon we shall depart for Eldamar."ââTKWR Trilogy Book I: The Epic of Eryn Galen by J.Marie Miller 2-1-2018

ElwĂ« (Elu Thingol), his brother Elmo and LewĂ«âthe last leaders of the Teleri to leave Lake CuiviĂ©nenâ are over heard by OrothĂŽn, Galadhon and Denethor (son of LenwĂ«) discussing leaving the forest that will one day become known as Mirkwood and follow the others beyond the mountains to Aman to Eldamar.

Chapter I: Awakened (Pt. VII)
âWe began our marchâforward we stared into the twilight from where we had awakened without even a glance backward. It was upon the request of TaurĂ«a and her kin. For many mile we walked in near silence with sporadic lilting voices uttering songs of the EldaliĂ«. I looked at the stars above usâsparkling their approval of our existence. After a time that seemed a short eternity, we stopped near the range of mighty mountains that hid part of the sky. We heard voices conversing.
âCome with me, OrothĂŽn,â MĂźrwen said.
I followed her toward the voices which belonged to Elmo and an elf I did not recognize.
âWhat do they call you,â Elmo asked the elf.
âI am EĂ€rosâ, he said, his voice trembling. âI mean you no harm. Me and my kin are lost.â
âLost,â Orowen asked stepping forward. âHow have you come to be lost?â âI am afraid I do not know,â he began, his long golden hair disheveled from wandering. âI was far behind the leader of our kin when our march ended without cause.â
âYou leader was ElwĂ«,â Elmo asked as to already know the answer.
âYes,â EĂ€ros said looking down. âHe has got on without us.â
He motioned toward four other elves cowering in fear behind the beginnings of another forest. For the first time, I realized the land from whence we came had changedâthe sound of waters I reader and the sky was no longer hidden behind great mountains.
âSurely ElwĂ« ventured farther than this,â Elmo said to Orowen. âHe left us long before.â
âThere are more of us,â EĂ€ros said. âWe went looking for the others.â
Denethor and Arethuil joined us.
âHow far have you come,â Denethor asked. âYou are quite young to venture in the wild without guidance.â
âFrom there,â he said pointing.
We all looked where he showed us. In the distance we saw another range of mountains.
âCelebriel will surely give birth long before we get there,â MĂźrwen whispered to me. âAs for me, I shall make it farther.â
âYou will stay with us,â Elmo said to EĂ€ros. âMy brother is still with us. We will see him once more. We shall rest here for a time before we move on. IarĂ»r, a word.â
Iarûr made his way to Elmo as the rest of us prepared the camp. When everyone had settled, I noticed EÀros and his four companions had become friendly with Galadhon and Celebriel. We stayed but a short time before once again journeying toward home. As we marched, I began to notice Mßrwen had begun to show her condition. Little by little, our child grew inside her.
By the time we reached the mountains, her prediction came true. In what would be called Ossiriand, Celebriel gave birth to her first child. Orowen was delightedâfor upon the birth of this child, Galathil and NĂĄrwen announced they were expecting one of their own.
While MĂźrwen joined the ladies to care for the infant, I went away from the camp to think.
âWhat are you thinking about,â I heard ValdĂŽr ask as he approached. âSoon you will have child of your own.â
âYes,â I said. âBut it will not be a girl.â
âHow do you know,â he asked.
âMĂźrwen is convinced otherwise. She is usually correct.â
âOf course,â he laughed. âAre they not always? That is why we marry them. They know we would be lost without their intuition.â
âWhat has Lothluin said to you,â I asked.
âThe same,â he said quietly. âExpect a son.â
âThat is great news, ValdĂŽr.â
âIt will not be if we remain lost in the wilderness,â he said.
âYou wish to remain here,â I asked. âNo,â he said. âBut Denethor grows weary and has decided to stay.â
âPerhaps itâs for the best,â I answered. âHow much longer will we march before we are home?â
âIarĂ»r says we will remain,â ValdĂŽr said. âMost of us. This world does not seem too dreadful.â
âWe are EldaliĂ«,â I said. âWe belong in Eldamar.â
âIf we belong in Eldamar, then why were we not born there,â he asked. âWhy have us march to the home we belong?âÂ
âI try not to question the Creator of all things,â I answered. âThere must be a reason we must discover for ourselves.â
âOh, OrothĂŽn,â he laughed. âI knew there was a reason I liked you. You are wise.â
âNot as IarĂ»r,â I said.
âYou do not need to be,â he said. âWisdom comes in many forms.â
âDo you think Ălengolas wise?â
He laughed harder.
âI think Ălengolas is something,â he said. âI have yet to discover what.â
âYou amuse me, ValdĂŽr,â Ălengolas said as he approached. âMay your son be cursed with nothing but girls.â
âWhat is wrong with girls,â ValdĂŽr asked. âI am quite fond of maidens. I am married to one.â
âSo am I,â he answered. âBut the tiny ones leave much to be desired. ValdĂșmĂźr attends to the one Celebriel bore. If my wife has a daughter, Iâll go mad.â
âWhat are they calling her,â I asked.
âNĂndi,â Elengolas said smiling. âShe is quite lovely when she is at rest.â
âI can hardly wait to see her,â I said.
âYes you can,â they said in unison.
âGentlemen,â a voice said from behind. We turned to see Galathil.
âYes,â I said. âSomething amiss?â
âNo,â he said. âI was sent to tell you that we will leave here as soon as Celebriel and her daughter are able.â
We nodded, then he went on his way. Looking into the sky we left each other to our own thoughts.âââTKWR Trilogy Book I: The Epic of Eryn Galen by J.Marie Miller 2-17-2018

LĂșthien, or an attempt at LĂșthien.
Caranthir the Dark, son of Nerdanel and that guy Fëanor
Actually I kind of like Caranthir; he was a surprisingly tolerant guy for all that the sons of Fëanor were an arrogant lot. It was a sort of businessman's tolerance, maybe, but it was still something. He's more open-minded than I would have expected.
And someday dammit I'll get the eyes to actually focus. It's so weirdly impossible to do digitally. I can do it on an actual piece of paper, but when it's one pixel or the next and you really need it in-between there's not much you can do.
