Among the select few who present such collections, is Madrid based Sastreria 91, a small business run by husband and wife, Paul Garcia and Cat Gardner. After their recent debut at Pitti, the duo has been consistently delivering some of the most inspiring takes on classic menswear tailoring.
With an outspoken love for Spanish tradition, shapes and proportions, one that is on the threshold of a passionate obsession, Paul and Cat draw inspiration from the rich legacy left by their ancestors to recreate classic garments in their very particular vision. Their uncanny attention to detail and fit is only surpassed by the impeccable taste of the color palettes, comprised by subtle variations on trademark staples that add that much more visual appeal and depth to each garment. Showcasing once again at theĀ āMakeā area of the Padiglione Centrale at Pitti, was one of the most charismatic and outstandingly talented duos Iāve had a change of meeting to this day. As if their carefully curated bespoke attires werenāt enough to unleash a shooting spree amongst street style photographers, their trademark bow tieĀ collection caused a similar impression on all those who passed by their stand. Besides the bespoke creations I presented a coupleĀ of weeks ago during my visit to Madrid, one of their side projects consists of an exclusive line of handmadeĀ bow ties, made from luxurious and exotic materials.Ā The superb use ofĀ iridescent feathers from pheasants, quails, mallards and other exquisite birds, results in a product that is both unique and highly sophisticated.Ā
This outspoken gentlemanly interpretation on a muchĀ controversial accessory, whose playfulĀ allure was widely distorted in recent years, was most welcome. The concept that Sastreria 91 managed to portray in each ofĀ their creations, rekindles the balanced formality of old, with each bow evoking much more of a Bond-esque universeĀ than that of a weekend at the Hamptons. The superb texture and sheen of the natural feathers, elevates this accessory to a suave status where you immediately picture yourself wearing them on some of the most luxurious locations on earth. Carrying on the theme, was a feather-lapelled tuxedo that was quite possibly one of the finest examples ofĀ creativity, craftsmanship and art on display at the fair, dazzling all those who came across it.
