舞踏会 “Loveliness of ladybugs”

Beetle kid actually refers to Nanaho’s ladybug squad literally as a “ball of ladybugs” (ball as in a formal ball, a dance). But that was something that’d make a majority of people go “huh?” because they’d think ball as in, well, a round thing you play with.

The original Japanese was also very flowery, so I chose to refer to them as a “loveliness of ladybugs” which is actually how groups of ladybugs are counted in English (similar to “a murder of crows” or “a pride of lions”, etc).

虫螻 “Vermin”

Yuuga keeps saying various derogatory bug terms, equivalent to an English-speaker calling someone a “worm”. But I can’t make Yuuga call the ladybugs a worm because, well... they’re not.

“Vermin” was the closest thing that I could think of that conveyed his pure and utter disgust and contempt, but even then I don’t think it did the original enough justice.

お天道様の森 Forest of the Sun

In my original draft of the script, I had translated this is as “Her Ladybugship’s Forest”. I switched to “Forest of the Sun” once I saw that Yugipedia had settled on that as their official name for it.

That said, I really liked “Her Ladybugship’s Forest” as the card is a pun on otentosama meaning “sun” and otento-sama meaning “ladybug” but with a very respectable honorific.

I just felt really proud of this name and wanted to share it.

Sorry for another minor delay. I came down with a fever early Sunday morning and basically slept the whole day away. I did some timing while I was lucid and managed to do the rest this morning when I woke.
