Some days before it was found necessary to amputate Mrs. Rowe leg word was sent to Ernest Rowe, 21, in Alberta where he has been working on a farm, as to the seriousness of her condition.
He left his work immediately and started east by riding freight trains. He made the trip in 10 days because he was almost penniless. He intended to make it in time for the operation but arrived shortly after.
Ernest intends to leave for the west in the near future to see if he can get more work, because he thinks it better to be on the road looking for work or working in the west rather than staying at home being a burden on someone else.

Noctisâ eyes narrowed as he realized his father was calling him a bug. âDonât even tease about your death bed. Itâs not funny. And Iâm not babying you, I just asked if you wanted a book.â

Noctis shook his head at his father and sat back in the chair, slouching until he was comfortable. âA little âbugâ told you that laying down will make it better?â
A dark brow rose, âJust laying down isnât the objective Dad, ârestingâ is. I could bring you a book if youâd like?â

Noctis snorted a laugh, tried to hide it behind his hand and act like it was a cough, but his father was so straight faced and serious that he couldnât. He cracked, laughing so hard his sides ached. When he could breathe a little he gasped out, âJeez Dad, are you trying to kill me?â

Noctis pouted a bit as he was swatted away, âUm, no, I didnât ask Prompto to take notes for me. Heâs got different classes. Iâll just ask someone Iâve got the classes with for their notes, itâs alright, honest.â
He put his hands on his hips as his dad settled back down into the blankets, âIt doesnât matter if itâs a âsimple coldâ or not. All of Lucis depends on you, and so do I, you being sick will always worry me. It means you arenât taking care of yourself like you should.â He looked off to the side for a moment before a sly grin cracked his face and he looked back at his father, âShould I have Ignis prepare your food as well?â

Noctis winced as his movements woke his father, then ducked his head at his words. âI was, and I did. Sorry.â
When Regis moved to sit up Noctis was quick to get to his feet and press him back down in the bedding, âNo, no dad. Lay down. Thereâs no reason to sit up on my account, you need to rest so youâll get better.â
Though, simply seeing the man awake went a long way in reassuring him that he would be alright. The cough was concerning though. âHave you taking anything for the cough?â
