***** NEW ARTWORK ***** Dramatic Dunnet Bay is a fantastic sweeping arc of white sandy beach backed by rolling undulating dunes , your breath taken by the winds from the Pentland Firth - perfect for solitary strolls and secluded beach walks. They bay is a haven for many types of seabirds including oystercatchers, eider ducks, curlew and ringed plover. The beach is also a great place to hunt for shells , add to that collection, with different finds, like whelks and razor shells in the white sand. Contrary to common belief, Dunnet Head is actually the most northerly point of the UK and Scottish mainland, not John O'Groats. John O'Groats is the most north easterly village in the UK, whereas Dunnet Head is the most northern peninsula. The drive to the peninsula is a winding journey of around 20 minutes, up along mainly single track road. From the road, you can see views across Caithness and the Pentland Firth towards the Orkney Isles. Dunnet Head - 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Scotland Dunnet Head is a peninsula on the north coast of Scotland. It is the northern most point in mainland Scotland and therefore, Great Britain too. Dramatic 91m cliffs hold Dunnet Head Lighthouse, while surrounding bays contain surprisingly beautiful beaches. You might not want to swim in the cold North Sea for the majority of the year, but seals can commonly be spotted, along with lots of other wildlife! Nearby, you can travel to John O’groats, a popular tourist spot, being at one end of the longest distance between two inhabited points on the mainland (the other being Land’s End, Cornwall). Fun fact: Looking north, you will clearly see the Orkney Islands, with the Pentland Firth stretching between you.
