A/N- It’s my birthday, but you get the present. Since the new series isn’t as far as I would like it to be before it starts posting, I hope you enjoy this OCC timestamp. All mistakes are mine, and this was written between midnight and 2 am the last 2 nights I’m sure there are a few.
Summary- It’s season 7, but for the purpose of this fic some of the characters made earlier season appearances than they actually did on the show. This is the first Timestamp for Operation Christmas Couple. This one takes you back to before the series begins, and the night a drunken Jensen confesses what he has been hiding from his roommate and friend.
Series Masterlist
Sitting in your chair you are waiting for the crew to reset the bunker scene you are trying to shoot with Jared, Jensen and Misha. Thanks to the former two things are moving a little slower today. It’s Misha’s last day on set for a few weeks and it seems like they are trying to screw with him a little more to make up for his upcoming absence.
The last take, Jared, had spilled Sam’s water on him, and Jensen had dropped Dean’s pie in his lap. So, Misha is currently in the wardrobe trailer for some clean clothes and they are drying up the set floor.
Jensen comes and takes a seat in his chair beside you, while Jared is leaning on the back of yours.
“Um, you two do know we are supposed to be finishing up early today right? Like it’s a scheduled short day.”
“Yeah, it will all be fine. We’ll still have plenty of time to get back here for the party if we leave a little later,” Jensen tells you without a worry.
“Speak for yourself, Mr. roll out of bed and look good. Some of us need to have time to do our hair, amongst other things. Right Jared?”
“Yeah. Wait what?”
Jensen doesn’t even chuckle at his friend like you thought he would. He’s just looking at you. “You know you don’t have to spend extra time getting ready, you look amazing already right?”
“Thanks Ackles, but there are going to be a lot of people there tonight, and I would rather I didn’t look like I just spent the whole day filming with two giant children.”
“Hey!” they both yell at you.
The studio was throwing a Halloween party tonight for all the shows currently filming here, and some of the executives were going to be there also. You know some people from the other shows, but there still are many more you have never met.
Filming finally wraps for the day and you are trying to hurry back to your apartment, but Jensen doesn’t seem to feel the need to move his very cute ass. You might have just been his roommate and friend, but you were not blind.
Standing outside his trailer, you are waiting for him to finish talking about who knows what with his PA. Surely, it could wait until you were all back on set Monday after the weekend. He finally emerges with his backpack slung over one shoulder.
“Are you finally ready to go?” you question.
“Yep,” he strolls along behind your fast paced walking. “Y/N, relax. What’s your hurry?”
“Did you forget the conversation earlier, where I said some of us need more time to get ready? There is hair, makeup, and clothes. Instead of having almost three hours to go home, get ready and come back, thanks to you and Jare, there are now only two.”
“Just because the party starts at 7 doesn’t mean we have to be walking back in the door then,” he says, catching back up to you and putting his arm around your shoulders as you both head for the car.
It has taken him so long, Clif has already taken Jared home and returned to the lot for the both of you. Once he pulls up outside the apartment you are hoping out of the vehicle, yelling out a thank you. Jensen just shakes his head at you, telling Cliff you and him will take an Uber back to the studio so he doesn’t have to wait for you two once Jared and Gen are ready. He hurries inside to see you stepping into the elevator.
“You better hold that door, Y/L/N!”
You are tempted not to, but you do hold the elevator and wait for him to get on. Finally in the apartment, you head off to your room while Jensen sets his bag down on the kitchen counter and grabs himself a beer from the fridge. Knowing he won’t need as much time to get ready as you.
Jensen also thinks you’re nuts for feeling like you have to take hours to get ready. He has always thought you were beautiful no matter what you were wearing, or had done to your hair. He isn’t a big fan of events like these, because he knows as one of the longer running shows in the studio he and Jared are supposed to be socializing with members of all the other shows. You do that also, but not usually with them. He’s afraid one of these days you are going to meet someone at these things who is going to take you away from him.
By seven he is ready to go. Even though it’s a Halloween party, it’s not a costume one. They figure most of you spend enough time pretending to be someone else. He is dressed in dark jeans, a black dress shirt with a maroon suit jacket. Turning the television back on he sits down on the couch and waits for you. Twenty minutes later you emerge from your bedroom mumbling to yourself.
“Are you ready?” he asks, standing from the couch and turning the television off. “Wow,” he says as his mouth drops open when he gets a look at you.
“Do I look alright?” you ask your roommate, turning around in your new black dress.
“Uh, yeah you look fantastic.” he tells you, once he is capable of speaking again. “I knew you would be running late, so I scheduled an Uber for 7:30, it should be downstairs in a few minutes.”
“Great.” You grab your purse, and black wrap and are ready to go.
The hall they are hosting tonight’s party is fairly full by the time the two of you arrive. Besides Supernatural, iZomobie, Riverdale, Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, Lucifer and Fringe, are all currently filming here. Most of their cast and crew are all in attendance.
You had no sooner walked in the door when someone you would rather not see runs up to Jensen. It was his ex, apparently she is in town to guest star on one of the other shows. They broke up not long after you started on the show, and it wasn’t a pretty breakup. Although, he doesn’t seem to mind talking to her now so you make yourself scarce. There is nothing you would hate more than to see him get back together with her. You keep waiting for the day he is going to come home and tell you he met someone. You aren’t sure you would be able to take that.
Jared and Gen find Jensen, not long after you have left him. His ex isn’t happy when she realizes she doesn’t have his full attention. Or even half of it, since he is going between listening to Jared and watching you.
Socializing with the other cast and crews, along with some of your own coworkers, you don’t have a chance to go look for Jensen or Jared. What you don’t know is Jensen hasn’t let you out of his sight all night long. While you are currently talking and laughing with Tom Ellis and Robert Buckley, your roommate is knocking back his third drink of the party before heading to the bar for something stronger than beer.
When he rejoins Jared, Gen and Joshua Jackson, his TV brother pulls him to the side. “Are you alright man? You’re hitting the alcohol a little hard tonight.”
“I’m fine.”
Tom is pulled away, but you continue your chat with Robert. You two are comparing CW sets, his experience on iZombie and One Tree Hill, to yours on Supernatural. When the crowd jostles you at one point, he puts his arm around you to keep you from falling. He just doesn’t move it when you are once again steady. As the noise level is picking up, the two of you need to lean closer to each other to hear what was being said.
You are completely taken off guard when you are suddenly pulled into someone else’s side and away from Robert. Turning to look at the newcomer, you see Jensen sending a glazed eyed stare at Robert.
“Hey Jay,” you cautiously greet him. “Have you met Robert Buckley? He was on One Tree Hill and is working on iZombie here now.”
“Great,” he replies.
“Robert, this is my co-star and roommate, Jensen Ackles.”
Robert holds out his hand, which Jensen finally shakes after a moment.
“Yeah, roommate, I’m the roommate. Always the damn roommate.”
“Apparently, you are now the roommate who’s had too much to drink,” you hiss at him, but he just shrugs. “Where is Jared?”
“Around.”
“Why don’t you go find him?”
“And leave you to be taken, taken vantage of? No, nope,” he slurs out.
You turn back to Robert, “it was great talking to you, but I should get him some water, or coffee and maybe a ride home. I’d love to continue this conversation sometime...”
“Sure ya would,” Jensen grumbles behind you.
“If I don’t end up in jail for killing my roommate,” you finish, glaring at Jensen.
“Sounds good,” Robert hands you a card with his number before bidding you farewell.
When he’s gone, you turn around and glare at your roommate, “what the hell was that?”
He just shrugs, and throws one arm around your shoulders pulling you close once again.
“How much have you had to drink? You aren’t normally like this, especially with execs around.”
Another shrug.
“Could I have something besides a shrug?”
“No,” he almost yells with a shake of his head. He starts to wobble, but holds himself steady.
“Okay, that’s enough, let's go outside.”
You start heading for the door, while almost pulling him along next to you. Thankfully, Clif notices something isn’t right and makes his way toward the two of you. He tries to shift Jensen off of you, but the man won’t let go.
When the three of you are finally standing outside, Clif asks if you want him to go get the car to take Jensen home. You turn to your roommate, “are you good with Clif taking you home?”
“You too.”
“You’re well past wasted, Jens, I think you’re the one who needs to go home. Then Clif can come back for Jared and Gen. I’ll get an Uber later.”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Not leave…leaving you… lone.”
“I’ll be fine. It’s a studio party on a closed lot.”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Come with me.”
So much for you trying to have fun tonight. “It’s barely nine. Which speaking of, how’d you managed to get so wasted so fast, is beyond me. But you want me to leave and go back with you?”
“Yes.”
Rubbing a hand over your face you look at Clif and shake your head. “Fine if it will get you to leave, I’ll come help take you home.”
It’s a twenty minute drive back to the apartment. Jensen is sitting next to you in the back. You don’t notice that he keeps looking back at you with a drunk little smile.
“Do you want to tell me what in the world is going on?” you finally ask.
He shakes his head.
“I think you owe me an explanation for making me leave.”
He turns and looks out the window, “I couldn’t take it anymore, I had to do something.”
“Couldn't take what?”
“But it doesn’t matter, cause I can’t have it.”
“I have no idea what you are talking about.” You look up at Clif, who is stopped at a red light. He just shakes his head.
“Should have been me,” Jensen mumbles to himself, but you still caught it.
Reaching the building, Clif pulls into an empty spot out front. Jensen is already opening his door and stumbling towards you before his bodyguard can grab him.
Once he reaches you he puts his arm around you and pulls you close once again. “Night, Clify,” he says with a clumsy wave.
Clif still follows you into the building, when Jensen turns around in the elevator he notices he’s still there, ‘Hi Clify.”
“Hi Jay,” he responds with a shake of his head.
Up in the apartment, Jensen stumbles to the couch, while you try and get him to go change out his dress clothes.
“You want me naked?” He asks with a smile.
“You know what, fine sleep in those clothes. Here is a water bottle and some pain pills for you,” you set the items down in front of him.
Jensen reaches out and grabs your arm, pulling you down beside him. When you try and stand up he pulls you back down.
“I’m going with Clif back to the party.”
“No, stay…with me.”
You are more than a little frustrated at this point, having been looking forward to this party and the chance to spend time with the other casts and crews. You know you aren’t in the best mood to go back to the party, though. You would probably end up in as bad a shape as Jensen is.
Looking up at Clif you give a little shrug, “I guess I’m staying home. Thanks for your help.”
“No problem, call if you have any problems.”
“Thanks.” You try to get up to walk him to the door, but someone won’t let you.
“Bye Clify,” Jensen calls.
You stay on the couch for a few minutes and wait for Jensen to relax. When you think he has, you try to stand up. He immediately tries to reach for you.
“If you are going to make me stay home, I would at least like to change into some sweats.”
He finally lets you get up. When you come back in lounge pants and one of Jensen’s shirts you stole a while back, you sit down at the table in front of him.
“Alright, what’s going on with you? And don’t you dare tell me nothing. Jens, you don’t usually drink as much as you must have tonight.”
He sits back on the couch and gives you a glassed over look.
“Fine, if you don’t want to talk to me, I’m not going to sit here and stare at you.”
You stand up and start to walk away when you hear Jensen mumble something behind you.
“Should be me.”
“What was that?”
“Had to do something.”
“What’s that mean?”
“I couldn’t just stand there and watch or I would have punched ‘em. So I kept drinkin.”
“Who were you going to punch?”
“Those guys.”
You can’t help the eye roll. “That narrows it down, Ackles. There were a lot of guys there tonight.”
“He kept touching you, and you were laughing at whatever he said to you. I couldn’t take it.”
“Wait. Are you talking about Robert?”
“Stupid pretty boy, just kept touching you. Shoulda been me, but I can’t.”
“You keep saying that, what does it mean, should have been you.”
He turns to look at you, “but Jared says it can’t be.”
“I don’t know if you are too drunk for this conversation, or I’m too sober.”
Jensen gets up and slowly starts walking around the living room.
“Something’s bothering you, because tonight was way too out of character for there not to be.”
“I wish it was me.”
“What?” you are beginning to get a headache from trying to have this same conversation. “Why do you want to punch Robert?”
“Because it shoulda been me,” he turns around and yells at you this time. “I should have you in my arms, by my side, but I can’t.”
“Jens…”
He starts laughing, “but I’m just the roommate. This is Jensen, he’s my roommate, just the fucking roommate. But we aren’t actually fuckin.”
You are too shocked to say anything, but it doesn’t matter, the man is on a roll now.
“I can’t be more than the roommate, because I can’t disrupt the fucking balance, so I have to just sit back and watch, but I can’t do that anymore.”
“What balance?” you try to question.
“If things didn't work out, Jared said I can’t make that move unless I’m sure. But what if I’m sure I’m sure, but then I misread the whole thing. What happens if I lose you anyway, then I’ve lost.
“You have completely lost me in this conversation,” you try to cut him off. You thought he was slowly sobering up, but now you aren’t so sure.
“See he was right, it’s happening already.”
“What is?”
“I’m losing you.”
You stand up and walk over to where he is standing by the window, looking out at the city. Softly putting your hand on the side of his face, you guide him to look at you. “Jay, what is all this about? You aren’t losing me, I’m right here. Why do you think you are?”
“But I will, when you meet someone who isn’t afraid of losing their best friend so they can tell you.”
“Tell me what? What don’t you think you can tell me”
“I’m in love with you, but I can’t have you.
Well that catches you off guard. You’ve had feelings for Jensen that you have tried to bury over the years, but you didn’t think he would feel the same way about you. The man was the picture of perfection and could have anyone he wanted.
“See you can’t even say anything back. Jared was right, I should have kept my mouth shut and not said anything.”
“No no no, I’m just surprised to hear you say that. Jensen you could have anyone anywhere, I don’t understand why you would be interested in me.”
“You are the only girl I’m interested in,” he steps closer to you now, putting his hands on either side of your face, he slowly leans down and meets your lips in a soft kiss.
When you two pull apart, you can’t help but ask, “did Jared really tell you not to tell me?”
“Yeah, I’ve been trying to pretend I didn’t feel like I did.”
“How long?”
“Before we became roommates.””
“We used to sit out here and talk at night, I thought then that you might have some of the same feelings I did, but nothing ever happened. So I told myself it was all in my head,” you confess.
“He had me so worried about losing you as a roommate, friend, and even coworker if it didn’t work out between us I couldn’t take a chance on doing anything to ruin what we had. I’m not letting go of you now,” he tells you before moving in to kiss you again.
“We were idiots,” you whisper to him, when you break for air.
“No, we have meddling friends who are idiots. If it wasn’t for him, I would have done this a few years ago,” he tells you before kissing you again.
Picking you up, he carries you to his bedroom to make up for lost time.
