Charlie Dalton x reader
CW: female reader, use of Y/N, making out, Knox and Chris, slight underage drinking
[2.7k words]
âYou guys gotta help me! Itâs an emergency!â Knox burst into Charlieâs dorm room, breathless and frantic. He barely noticed the way Charlie and Y/N were laughing over some inside joke, their textbooks abandoned on the desk. He knew Y/N would be there; she always was.
Charlie looked up, his eyes narrowing with a mix of curiosity and concern. âWhoa, slow down, Overstreet. Whatâs the crisis?â
Y/Nâs smile faded into a slight frown as she turned to Knox. âWhat happened, Knox? Are you okay?â
Knox took a deep breath, knowing this was a long shot but feeling like he had no other choice. âI need you two to fake date each other,â he said in one breath.
Y/N blinked, her frown deepening as she tried to process what Knox had just said. âWait, what?â
Knox pressed on before he could lose his nerve. âChris thinks we have something going on. You know how we flirted at one of her parties so I could make her jealous? Well now she thinks you and I are a thing, Y/N, and I need her to know that weâre not. Because youâre with someone else.â Knox took a breath. âI donât care if it's Charlie you fake date. Hell, I can ask Cameron if you want.â
Y/N gasped at the thought of even fake dating Cameron, âDo you really think so low of me?â
Charlie raised his eyebrows, curious to see how Knox could get out of the grave he's digging for himself.Â
âNo, I donât. I promise,â Knox whined. âIâm just a guy in love making stupid decisions. So please, help me out, would you?â
Y/N opened her mouth to tell him heâs out of his mind, but before she could get a word out, Charlieâs lips curled into a mischievous grin. âYou know what? Weâll do it,â he said, cutting her off, his tone filled with a teasing edge. He shot Y/N a wink, his eyes sparkling with amusement.
Y/Nâs initial shock faded as she caught on to Charlieâs playful mood. A slow grin (and a lot of blush) spread across her face as she realized this could be a lot more fun than sheâd initially thought. âAlright, yeah,â she agreed, turning to Knox with a smile. âWeâll help you out.â
Knoxâs shoulders slumped in relief. âYou two are the best,â he said, though he couldnât shake the feeling that there was something he was missing in this whole arrangement.
âNot so fast,â Charlie said. âOur fake relationship comes with a price.âÂ
And there it was, Knox thought, the missing piece. âAlright, what?â
âWe each get a request. Only fair because this is Y/Nâs second time helping your sorry ass out,â Charlie said.
Knox looked at his shoes, as if contemplating, however everyone knew he would do anything for a chance that Chris even looks at him. âFine, but you have to decide now what you want.â
Y/N and Charlie looked at eachother and high fived. âScore!â Y/N cheered.Â
âAlright, I want folded laundry for a month,â Charlie requested.Â
âA week,â Knox retorted.
âTwo weeks and Iâll give you a pick-up line pep talk.â Charlie shot a wink towards Y/N. âAngels should be in heaven. How'd you escape?â
Y/N giggled and put her head in her hands to stop them from seeing her face blush. It wasnât even that good of a line, but it was Charlie delivering it.Â
This got Knox to reply quickly. âDeal. And for you?âÂ
âHmm. Twenty dollars so Charlie can take me out,â she responds.Â
âDone and done.âÂ
Charlie pauses to argue, âHey wait, how come you didnât negotiate with her? Twenty bucks for one date? Thatâs so much!â
âCan it Charlie, he already agreed,â Y/N hushed. âAnd arenât I worth an expensive date?â
âYou know that's not what I meant,â Charlie pleaded.
âSheâs worth more than you and has helped me out multiple times,â Knox explained.
âFair enough,â Charlie shrugs. âOkay, so. How is this gonna work?â
âWellâŚâ Knox starts.Â
The plan was simple: Knox and Y/N were both invited to one of Chrisâs parties as usual, and this time, they invited Charlie to tag along. The idea was that Chris would see Y/N with Charlie and realize Knox was available, and maybe, just maybe, Chris would stop thinking there was something going on between Knox and Y/N and then make a move on Knox.
The night of the party, Knox was a nervous wreck. Charlie tried to help calm his nerves when he gave his Flirting 101 Pep Talk, but Knox still felt a knot in his stomach as they arrived at Chrisâs place, a large, bustling house filled with students and the sound of music booming from the speakers. Y/N and Charlie walked in together, Charlie's arm slung casually over Y/N's shoulder, their smiles easy and relaxed. Knox followed close behind, trying to keep his cool.
Chris greeted them at the door with a smile, but her eyes quickly darted to Y/N and Charlieâs closeness, then finally to Knox.
âHey guys. Come on in,â Chris welcomed the group. For a moment, her face hardened with suspicion, looking mildly uncomfortable.Â
âChris, hi!â Y/N called. She moved to give Chris a hug, but Chris deflected, moving to let them all inside.
âWell you all know where the drinks are. See you around.â Chris ran off into the party, leaving the three friends in the foyer of Chrisâs massive house.Â
âWhat did you do, Overstreet?â Charlie asked, turning to Knox.Â
âWhat do you mean, me?â Knox said with his hands up. âIt was obviously Y/N sheâs mad at.âÂ
âYeah, I didnât like that at all. We were really starting to be close friends too.â Y/N hugged herself, feeling shame for something she didnât understand.Â
âHey, weâll figure it out.â Charlie reached out to rub Y/Nâs arms. âItâll be okay, angel.â
âLetâs just get to the party to carry out Knoxâs plan.âÂ
âRight, let's loosen up.â
As they made their way through the crowd, Y/N and Charlie naturally gravitated toward each other, their banter flowing easily as they exchanged inside jokes. Knox couldnât help but notice how well they got along. Better than most fake couples heâd ever seen (which was zero). They sat down on a couch in the corner of the room, and Knox awkwardly squeezed in between them.Â
Chris hovered nearby, her eyes darting between Knox and Y/N before she excused herself to grab drinks. Y/N and Charlie, noticing this, looked at each other and then at Knoxâs sad face.Â
âYou know what, Y/N and I will get us something to drink,â Charlie said, standing up. He offered Y/N his hand, which she accepted.
âYeah, you just.. save us this spot, okay?â Y/N offered.Â
They received a groan in response, so they made their way to the make-shift bar.Â
Charlie got to the bar first and started grabbing multiple different bottles and cups at once.Â
âCareful with that, Dalton,â Y/N teased as Charlie attempted to pour them both a drink. âYou might spill it all over yourself.â
Charlie smirked, deliberately overfilling his cup. âMaybe I just need someone to clean me up,â he quipped, leaning a little closer.
Y/N laughed, shaking her head as she reached for her drink. âYouâre impossible.â
âAnd yet, youâre still here,â Charlie shot back, his tone light but his gaze intense. He brushed a stray strand of her hair behind her ear, his fingers lingering a moment longer than necessary.
Y/Nâs heart skipped a beat, and she playfully nudged him. âDonât get too full of yourself, Dalton.â
Just as Charlie was about to retort, Chris appeared beside them, her expression unreadable. âHey, Y/N, can I talk to you for a second?â
Y/N glanced at Charlie, who gave her a small, encouraging nod, before turning back to Chris. âSure, whatâs up?â
Chris crossed her arms, her voice edged with frustration. âItâs not fair, you know. How youâre treating Knox. Last party, you two were all over each other, and now youâre with Charlie? Whatâs going on?â
Y/N sighed, realizing how things might have looked from the outside. âChris, it was just for fun. Thereâs nothing between Knox and me. We were just trying to have a good time. Iâm with Charlie now.â
Chris looked between Y/N and Charlie, processing this new information. âSo, Knox is single?â
Y/N nodded, trying to keep her voice gentle. âYeah, he is. I didnât mean to lead him on or anything. Heâs just a friend.â
Chrisâs shoulders relaxed slightly as if a weight had been lifted. âOkay. I just.. I wanted to look out for him, you know?â
Y/N offered her a reassuring smile. âI get it. But seriously, thereâs nothing going on with Knox and me.â Chris looked down, bashfully. âIf you like him, you should talk to him.â
Chris nodded thoughtfully. âWeâll see. Thanks, Y/N.â
Chris left quickly, leaving the two of them to watch her go.Â
âDo you think that solved it?â Charlie asked.
Y/N kept her eyes on Chris. âWell, sheâs heading upstairs instead of to Knox or at least the party.â
âI donât know if that's a good sign or not.â Charlie rubbed the back of his neck. âIâm starting to think that Knoxâs plan isnât going to work.â
âWell, I donât want to upset Knox, so I think we should stick to our plan and be by his side in case things go sideways for him.â Y/N picked up her drink and took a sip. âHere, get him a drink and weâll go back.âÂ
âYes maâam,â Charlie saluted and grabbed a beer for himself and a mixed drink for Knox. They both made their way back to where Knox was seated.
âHere you go,â Charlie said, putting a drink in Knoxâs hand. âMade your favorite.â
Charlie sat down next to Knox, and instead of Y/N sitting on Knoxâs other side, she sat on Charlieâs lap.
âOh, hello.â A smile spread across Charlieâs face as he situated himself for Y/N. She sent a smirk back.Â
Knox leaned in toward the two of them, lowering his voice so no one else could hear. âItâs not working,â he hissed. âSheâs still ignoring me.â
Charlie rolled his eyes, an exasperated sigh escaping his lips. âKnox, you canât think it's that easy. Even if she knows Y/N and I are together, she might want to take her time with you. Relationships arenât that simple.â
Knox frowned, his frustration bubbling to the surface. âThen what do you suggest? Because it looks like youâre just sitting there talking, and sheâs still convinced Y/N and I are a thing!â
Y/N, who had just about enough of Knoxâs bullshit and bad flirting ideas, finally spoke up, her voice tinged with irritation. âMaybe the problem isnât us, Knox. Maybe you just donât know how to talk to her.â
Knox opened his mouth to protest, but Y/N wasnât finished. She turned to Charlie with a determined glint in her eye. âYou want to see what a real relationship looks like?â
Before Knox could respond, Y/N leaned in close to Charlie, her hand gently cupping his cheek as she whispered, âLetâs give him something to believe in.â
Charlieâs eyes widened slightly in surprise, but a slow, confident grin spread across his face as he caught on to what Y/N was planning. âAs you wish,â he murmured, his voice low and playful.
Without another word, Y/N closed the distance between them, her lips meeting Charlieâs in a kiss that was anything but fake. It was slow and deliberate, filled with an intensity that took both of them by surprise. Charlie responded immediately, his arms wrapping around her waist as he pulled her closer, deepening the kiss. They could feel the electricity between them, a chemistry that neither had fully acknowledged until now.
Knox stared at them in shock, his jaw dropping as he watched his friends completely lose themselves in the moment. He could barely comprehend what he was seeing. Their kiss was so convincing, so real, that he almost believed they were a couple.
As the kiss stretched on, Chris reappeared with slightly more makeup on and a new shirt, her eyes widening as she took in the sight of Y/N and Charlie locked in a passionate embrace. She turned to Knox, her expression a mix of confusion and curiosity. âKnox, can we talk for a minute?â she asked, her voice soft.
Knox snapped out of his stupor, nodding quickly as he stood up. âUh, yeah, sure,â he said, casting one last glance at the kissing couple before taking out a twenty dollar bill and leaving it on the table nearby.Â
âLetâs leave those two lovebirds alone,â Chris said with a small smile, taking Knox by the hand and leading him away.
Once Chris and Knox were out of sight, Y/N and Charlie finally pulled apart, their breathing heavy, their faces flushed. They looked at each other for a moment, a mixture of surprise and amusement dancing in their eyes. And then, simultaneously, they both burst into laughter, the sound echoing through the room.
âThat was..â Y/N started, but she couldnât stop giggling long enough to finish her sentence.
âAmazing?â Charlie offered, his grin wide and unrestrained.
Y/N nodded. âYeah, amazing.â
Little did Knox know, Y/N and Charlie had been secretly dating the entire time. Their relationship had started out quietly, both of them preferring to keep things low-key, but tonight had changed everything. There was no fooling anyone about their status anymore, not after that kiss.
âSo, what now?â Y/N asked, her voice softening as the laughter died down.
Charlie leaned in closer, his forehead resting gently against hers. âNow, we stop pretending,â he said, his voice tender but firm. âNo more hiding. No more fake relationships. Just us.â
Y/N smiled, her heart swelling with happiness as she nodded. âJust us.â
âSo how about I take my best girl out on a date she deserves,â Charlie says, picking up the twenty dollars as Y/Nâs reward.Â
Y/N laughed, âI donât know, Charlie. Someone told me that was too much for a date.â
âYeah, well, that was before the hottest make out of his life.â Charlie winked and stood up. âI think my baby could use some pampering.â
âWell if you insist.â
Charlie bent over and picked up Y/N as she squealed in excitement. He gave her a quick kiss before starting to make his way through the party to leave.Â
âWell, Iâm glad to be out of a fake relationship and into a real one. With the same person, if I might add. Gets a little confusing, donât you think?â They were approaching the front door and finally getting outside.Â
âI think Iâm more happy to be done flirting with Knox,â Y/N shuttered. âDo you think your pickup lines helped him at all?â
Charlie stopped walking and stared straight ahead. âWell, either that or you talked some sense into Chris to finally talk to Knox. Look.â Charlie tilted his head forward, pointedly.Â
There stood Knox and Chris sharing a kiss (really getting at it for a first kiss too).Â
âAwe. Charlie, I think we did that.â Y/N hugged Charlie tighter, pushing their heads together. Charlie slowly set her down, keeping her wrapped up in his arms.Â
âNo, baby, I know we did that. Weâre gonna have to make speeches at their wedding about tonight. Theyâre gonna have to repay us by naming their kids after us.âÂ
Y/N laughed, turning to Charlie. âI hope Charlieâs a girl then.âÂ
Charlie rolled his eyes. âWell, as long as sheâs beautiful. Gotta live up to the name, if you know what I mean.â
âOh I do know. You are quite beautiful Charlie,â Y/N said, looking at Charlie as if he was the only thing in the universe.Â
Charlie blushed. âYou know I could never compare to you.â
âI love you, Charlie.â
âI love you too, angel.â
They both leaned in for a kiss, this one slow and tender, a stark contrast to the heated exchange theyâd shared earlier. It was gentle, filled with warmth and affection, a moment that spoke of love more than anything else.Â

"They're here," Chris said, her eyes lighting up as she glanced towards the front door. Y/N followed her gaze and saw a group of familiar faces spilling into the room, their laughter and energy instantly amplifying the party's atmosphere.
Knox Overstreet was the first to make a beeline for Chris, a wide grin on his face as he scooped her up into a hug and planted a smooch on her cheek. Chris giggled, playfully swatting him away before pulling him in for another kiss. Y/N smiled, happy for her friend but feeling a flutter of nerves as she saw the rest of the Dead Poets enter.
Among them was Charlie Dalton, his usual confident swagger on full display as he walked into the room. His eyes scanned the crowd, and when they landed on Y/N, a mischievous grin spread across his face. He sauntered over to her, his hands casually tucked into the pockets of his jacket.
"Y/N," he drawled, his voice teasing as he approached. "Looking lovely as always."
Y/N felt a small blush rise to her cheeks but quickly recovered, giving him a playful smirk. "Charlie Dalton, I didnât expect to see you upright at this point in the night."
Charlie chuckled, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "The nightâs still young.âÂ
Y/N rolled her eyes, but she couldnât help the smile tugging at her lips. "Donât go too hard, Dalton."
Charlie winked at her. "Iâll try my best. Speaking of which..." He glanced around and spotted the cooler filled with drinks. "Mind if I grab my first beer of the night?"
"Go ahead," she said, waving him off. "But donât blame me when youâre stumbling around by midnight."
Charlie laughed, a sound that was both carefree and charming. "I wouldnât dream of it."
As he reached for a beer, Y/N took a moment to observe him. She had known Charlie for a little while now, ever since their friendship had blossomed through mutual friends and shared experiences. He was always the life of the party, the one who could make everyone laugh and who seemed to have an endless supply of energy. But there was something different about tonight. Maybe it was the way his eyes kept flicking back to her, or the way his grin softened when their gazes met.
Charlie popped the cap off his beer and took a long drink, sighing with exaggerated satisfaction. "Ah, just what I needed."
Y/N took a sip of her drink, laughing. "You act like youâve been stranded in a desert."
"Hey, a guyâs gotta stay hydrated," he replied, his tone light but his eyes lingering on her a little longer than usual.
"So, how have you been?" Y/N asked, shifting the conversation to safer ground. "It feels like we havenât seen each other in ages."
Charlie shrugged, leaning against the wall beside her. "You know how it is. Welton keeps me busy, but Iâm glad to be out and about tonight. Especially since I knew youâd be here."
Y/N gave him a skeptical look. "Uh-huh. Iâm sure it had nothing to do with the free alcohol."
"Okay, maybe that too," Charlie admitted with a grin. "But mostly you."
Y/N rolled her eyes again, but the warmth in her chest was undeniable. Charlie had always been a flirt, but there was something more genuine in his tone tonight, something that made her wonder if there was a bit of truth behind his teasing.
They continued to chat, the conversation flowing easily as it always did between them. Charlie told her about some of the pranks he and the other Dead Poets had pulled at Welton, each story more outrageous than the last. Y/N found herself laughing more than she had in a long time.
As the party buzzed around them, it felt like they were in their own little world, where the only things that mattered were the playful banter and the way Charlieâs eyes seemed to sparkle when he looked at her.
As the night went on, the party grew wilder, the music louder, and the laughter more boisterous. Charlie and Y/N had split apart to hang out with their respective friend groups, but Charlie found his attention increasingly drawn to Y/N. She was having the time of her life. Laughing with friends, dancing, and singing to the music. But as he watched her from across the room, he noticed that she was starting to get a little too tipsy.
Y/N was currently with Chris, who had somehow convinced her to join in on a round of shots. The two of them were at the kitchen counter, giggling as they prepared their drinks. Chris handed Y/N a shot glass, and they clinked them together before downing the contents in one go. Y/N winced as the alcohol burned its way down her throat but laughed anyway, leaning on Chris for support.
Charlie frowned slightly, his mood shifting to a sense of concern. He had seen Y/N drink before, but tonight she seemed to be going harder than usual. Deciding that heâd had enough alcohol for the night, Charlie set down his half-finished beer and made his way over to her.
âHey, Y/N,â he called as he approached, trying to keep his tone light. âHow about taking a break from the shots and having some water?â
Y/N looked up at him, her eyes a little glazed but still sparkling with that familiar warmth. âCharlie! Come do a shot with us!â she said, waving the empty shot glass in his direction.
Charlie chuckled, gently taking the glass from her hand and setting it on the counter. âMaybe later. Right now, I think you could use some water.â
She pouted, but there was a playful glint in her eye. âAw, come on, Charlie. Iâm just having fun.â
âI know you are,â he said, his voice softening. âBut I want you to still be having fun tomorrow, not dealing with a massive hangover.â
Y/N giggled, leaning in closer to him. âYouâre such a worrier, Charlie. But⌠youâre kinda sweet, you know that?â
Charlie felt his heart skip a beat at the unexpected compliment, but he kept his focus. âWell, if being sweet means making sure youâre okay, then I guess Iâll take it.â He handed her a bottle of water. âDrink up, Y/N. For me?â
She looked at the bottle for a moment before taking it from him with a mock-serious expression. âFine. But only because you asked so nicely.â
As she took a sip of the water, Chris winked at Charlie. âYouâre a good guy, Dalton. I need to go find Knox. Keep an eye on her, will you?â
âAlways,â Charlie replied, giving Chris a grateful nod.
Y/N finished drinking some of the water and handed the bottle back to Charlie. âOkay, Charlie, I did as you asked. Now what?â
Charlie glanced around the room and spotted Neil sitting on the couch, deep in conversation with Todd. âHow about we go sit with Neil and Todd for a bit?â he suggested. âGive your feet a rest from all that dancing.â
Y/N tilted her head as if considering his offer, then smiled. âAlright, lead the way.â
Charlie kept a steadying hand on Y/Nâs back and guided her over to the couch, where Neil was animatedly talking to Todd, who nodded along, listening intently.
âMind if we join you?â Charlie asked, already helping Y/N onto the couch next to Neil.
Neil looked up and grinned. âOf course! The more, the merrier.â
Y/N plopped down beside Neil with a giggle, immediately resting her head on his shoulder. âNeil, youâre so smart. Whatâre you talking about?â
Neil laughed, clearly amused by her tipsy state. âI was just telling Todd about a play Iâm thinking of auditioning for. Itâs this new drama theyâre putting on in town.â
âDrama,â Y/N repeated, her voice dreamy as she looked up at him. âI bet youâd be amazing in it.â
Neil chuckled, patting her hand. âThanks, Y/N. Iâll do my best.â
Charlie stood nearby, watching with a smile as Y/N engaged Neil in a somewhat incoherent but entirely endearing conversation. It was obvious that she was trying her best to follow along, even if her thoughts were a bit scattered.
He reached out and took Y/Nâs hand. âHowâre you feeling, Y/N?â
She looked up at him with a sleepy but content smile. âIâm good, Charlie. Really good.â
âGood,â Charlie said softly, his thumb brushing fingers. âJust let me know if you need anything, okay?â
She nodded, her eyes closing as she leaned further into Neilâs side. âI will, promise.â
Y/N shifted a little on the couch, still leaning against Neil. Her head felt a bit heavy, but there was a pleasant buzz running through her, making her giggle at almost everything.
She turned her head slightly and looked up at Charlie. âHey, Charlie?â she called, her voice a bit softer than before.
Charlie leaned in closer, his brows raised. âYeah, Y/N? Whatâs up?â
âCould I actually get some more water?â she asked, her words slurring together just a little. âI think⌠I think I need it.â
Charlie smiled warmly, always patient with her. âOf course. Iâll be right back, okay?â He stood up, giving her shoulder a gentle squeeze before heading toward the kitchen.
As soon as he was out of earshot, Y/N turned her attention back to Neil and Todd, who were still chatting quietly. She nudged Neilâs arm, her eyes wide with a sudden burst of excitement. âGuys,â she whispered dramatically, as if sharing a big secret, âisnât Charlie just⌠so cute?â
Neil chuckled, clearly amused by her drunken confession. âCharlie? Cute? I guess you could say that.â
âNo, no,â Y/N insisted, her voice rising a little with her insistence. âNot just cute. Heâs, like, really cute. His eyesââ She paused, her hands making a fluttering motion as she searched for the right words. âTheyâre like⌠I donât know⌠stars or something. So bright and⌠and sparkly!â
Todd smiled shyly, glancing over at Neil with a knowing look. âYeah, he does have nice eyes.â
Y/N nodded vigorously. âExactly! And the way he looks at you, itâs like heâs really seeing you, you know? Not just⌠like, seeing you, but really seeing you.â
Neil laughed, trying to keep his voice down so they didnât attract too much attention. âI think I know what you mean, Y/N. Youâve got it pretty bad, donât you?â
Y/N sighed dramatically, flopping back against the couch. âI canât help it. Heâs just⌠ugh, heâs so dreamy.â
Todd and Neil exchanged amused glances, both clearly entertained by Y/Nâs tipsy ramblings. âHave you told him how you feel?â Todd asked gently, his voice soft.
Y/N shook her head, her eyes fluttering closed for a moment. âNo⌠I canât. What if he doesnât like me back? Iâd be so embarrassed.â
Neil patted her hand reassuringly. âI wouldnât worry too much about that, Y/N. Charlieâs a good guy. Iâm sure he likes you too.â
Y/N opened one eye, peeking at Neil with a hopeful expression. âYou think so?â
âI know so,â Neil said with a confident nod. âJust⌠maybe tell him when youâre not so, uh, tipsy.â
Y/N giggled, snuggling deeper into the couch. âYeah⌠yeah, maybe I will. But his eyes⌠Neil, I canât get over his eyesâŚâ
Neil chuckled again, shaking his head as he glanced toward the kitchen, wondering when Charlie would return. Todd just smiled, watching Y/N with quiet amusement.
Charlie came back from the kitchen, a glass of water in hand, and spotted Y/N still nestled on the couch next to Neil and Todd. As soon as she saw him, her face lit up as if he had been gone for an eternity.
âCharlie!â she exclaimed, her voice bright with excitement as she practically launched herself off the couch. She stumbled a bit as she stood, but Neil quickly steadied her with a laugh.
âWhoa there, Y/N,â Neil said, amused by her sudden burst of energy.
Charlie chuckled as he approached her, holding out the cup of water. âMiss me, did you?â
Y/N beamed at him, her eyes sparkling as she took the water from his hand, though it was more of a half-grab, half-snatch. âI thought you were never coming back!â she said with a giggle, swaying slightly as she leaned into him.
âI was only gone a few minutes,â Charlie teased, grinning down at her. âYou doing okay?â
Y/N nodded enthusiastically, taking a big sip of water. âIâm great! Just having the best time ever.â She waved her free hand around the room, her movements a little uncoordinated. âThis party is so much fun, and youâre here, and Neil and Todd are here, andââ She paused, looking up at Charlie with wide eyes. âDid I mention how cute you are?â
Charlieâs grin widened, a flush creeping up his neck as he tugged at the collar of his shirt. âI donât think you mentioned it yet tonight,â he said, his voice playful as he watched her sway a little on her feet.
Y/N giggled again, stepping closer to him, her balance wobbling as she tried to keep herself upright. âWell, itâs true,â she declared, her tone full of bubbly certainty. âYouâre just⌠the cutest.â
Charlie steadied her with a gentle hand on her arm, his heart doing a little flip at how sweet and carefree she was in this moment. âThanks, Y/N. Youâre not so bad yourself.â
She grinned up at him, her eyes still twinkling with that drunken, joyful gleam. âDid you know your eyes sparkle?,â she said, her voice softening just a touch.
Charlieâs smile turned a bit more tender. âOnly for you, Y/N.â
She giggled again, taking another sip of water before looking back at Neil and Todd, who were watching the interaction with knowing smiles. âSee? Isnât he just the best?â
Neil laughed, nodding. âYeah, Y/N, weâve got it. Charlieâs the best.â
Y/N nodded, satisfied with their agreement, and leaned her head against Charlieâs shoulder, her balance still a little off. âIâm so glad youâre here,â she murmured, her voice slightly muffled against his shirt. âYou always make everything more fun.â
Charlie smiled down at her, his heart full of affection as he watched her snuggle against him. âIâm glad Iâm here too, Y/N,â he said softly, his hand gently brushing her hair as she leaned on him. âAnd Iâm not going anywhere.â
As the party wore on, Y/Nâs bubbly energy began to wane. She was leaning heavily against Charlie now, her eyes fluttering closed every so often as she fought off sleep. Charlie, noticing her growing drowsiness, made up his mind.
âHey, Y/N,â Charlie said gently, brushing a strand of hair from her face. âI think itâs time to get you home.â
Y/N blinked up at him, her expression adorably confused for a moment before she nodded, stifling a yawn. âYeah, maybe youâre right. Iâm getting sleepy.â
With her arm wrapped around his for support, they said goodbye to all their friends and made their way out of the party. The night air was cool and crisp, a refreshing change from the warm, crowded house they had just left. Y/N clung to Charlie as they walked, her steps unsteady but confident in his guidance. The walk to her house wasnât far, but it felt longer in the quiet of the night, the world around them still and peaceful.
When they reached Y/Nâs house, Charlie carefully helped her up the front steps. He paused at the door, turning to her with a playful, conspiratorial grin. âReady to sneak in?â
Y/N giggled, nodding. âLike ninjas,â she whispered, trying to suppress another yawn.
Charlie opened the door quietly, and they tiptoed inside, moving as silently as they could through the darkened house. Y/N leaned heavily on Charlie as they made their way to her room, her steps growing even slower as sleepiness overtook her.
Once inside her room, Charlie guided her to sit on the edge of her bed. He crouched down in front of her, gently cupping her cheek to get her attention. âHey, Y/N, you should take off your makeup before you go to sleep.â
Y/N blinked sleepily at him and nodded, fumbling to find her makeup wipes on the bedside table. Charlie watched with a soft smile as she clumsily wiped off her makeup, her movements slow and a bit uncoordinated.
âGot it?â he asked, his voice gentle.
âYeah,â Y/N murmured, tossing the used wipe into the trash. âAll done.â
Charlie helped her find her pajamas next, turning his back to give her privacy as she changed. When she was dressed, he turned back around and tucked her into bed, making sure she was comfortable.
âHere,â Charlie said, placing a glass of water and a couple of painkillers on the bedside table. âYouâll thank me for this in the morning.â
Y/N looked up at him with sleepy, grateful eyes. âYouâre too good to me, Charlie,â she mumbled, her words slurring slightly as she fought to stay awake.
Charlie chuckled softly, brushing a hand through her hair. âIâm just making sure youâre okay,â he said, his voice warm. âNow get some sleep.â
As he turned to leave, Y/N reached out and grabbed his hand, stopping him. He looked back at her, his heart skipping a beat at the vulnerable expression on her face.
âCharlie,â she whispered, her voice soft and unsure. âI have a crush on you⌠Just thought you should know.â
His breath caught in his throat, his heart pounding in his chest as he processed her words. He knelt beside her bed, leaning in. âY/N,â he whispered back, his voice tender, âWeâll talk about it when youâre sober, okay? I promise.â
She nodded, a small, sleepy smile tugging at her lips. âOkay⌠but donât forget.â
âI wonât,â Charlie assured her, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead. âGoodnight, Y/N.â
âGoodnight, Charlie,â she mumbled, her eyes already closing as she drifted off to sleep.
Charlie stood up, his heart full as he watched her for a moment longer. He quietly slipped out of her room. As he walked home in the quiet of the night, he couldnât help but smile, his mind racing with thoughts of the conversation they would have tomorrow.

Hello! I love your writing, to start. I know you said you only like to write for Charlie, buuuut sense you also asked for ideas, I thought Iâd mention this one I had! So Iâm the odd man out and actually have a fascination with Richard Cameron. I know, donât hurt me. But I was thinking of a scenario with a female reader and a sort of âenemies to loversâ fic with Cameron? Basically where theyâre complete opposites. Maybe the reader is popular and rebellious, and of course Cameron is himself. Theyâve got nothing in common except the poetry meetings they like to go to, and they really just make snarky comments back and forth the whole time. Then finally (sense itâs fall) they end up going to a Halloween party. (Perhaps thereâs drinking involved?) And Cameron ends up seeing the reader in her costume, that by 50âs standards might be a little risquĂŠ, and heâs like âhow tacky, girls shouldnât dress like thatâ, but secretly he ends up like ⌠đâ¤ď¸ And then smooch
Anyways, thatâs my idea. Feel free to ignore. Thanks, love đ
Of course my first request is cameronđ (IM KIDDING)Â
Thanks for requesting!! I hope I did your fascination justiceâ¤ď¸

Richard Cameron x reader
CW: use of Y/N, female reader, blonde hair reader, underage drinking, making fun of nervous stuttering
[2.9k words]Â
Cameron had never understood Y/N.
Sure, she was smart. Probably too smart for someone who spent most of her time breaking rules with Charlie Dalton or getting involved in Neil Perryâs theatrical antics. Cameron could almost tolerate Charlieâs rebellious streak. After all, they were roommates, and you had to pick your battles. But Y/N⌠there was something about her that made it impossible for him to simply look the other way.
It wasnât that he hated her. At least, Cameron didnât think it was hatred. Maybe it was the way she always seemed to one-up him. Like when she managed to sweet-talk her way out of trouble for sneaking into the theater building late at night, or when she got away with challenging the headmasterâs every word without consequence. Charlie thought she was brilliant, and Neil seemed to gravitate toward her, especially during their impromptu play rehearsals. But to Cameron, Y/N was the embodiment of everything he wasnât. Free-spirited, fearless, and⌠reckless.
He sighed, adjusting his tie in the reflection of the small dorm mirror. "Rivals," he muttered under his breath. That was what heâd settled on. They were rivals. Even if he didnât quite understand why it bothered him so much.
Cameron knew he was no rebel. He liked rules, structure, and order. It was what made him who he was. But then came Neilâs ridiculous idea of reviving the Dead Poets Society. Neil had made it sound poetic and adventurous, a hidden escape from the suffocating walls of Welton. It was, of course, the exact sort of thing Charlie and Y/N would love.
Naturally, Cameron wanted no part of it. Sneaking out after curfew, wandering into the woods, all for the sake of reading poetry in secret? It was a direct violation of school policy, and Cameron wasnât about to jeopardize his future over some poetry club. At least, thatâs what he had been planning to say when Neil invited him.
But then, of course, he overheard Neil mentioning Y/N would be there.
He had no idea why that changed things, but suddenly, Cameron felt a knot tighten in his stomach. Sheâd be there, laughing, breaking the rules, and Cameron knew exactly how it would play out. Sheâd have that smug look on her face, as if sheâd won some unspoken battle between them. Sheâd act as if she was braver, bolder, and once again, sheâd leave Cameron in her dust.
"Fine," Cameron said to Neil, trying to hide the nervous edge in his voice. "Iâll go."
He hated the way his palms started sweating the moment he agreed, and the anxiety that knotted in his chest only tightened as the hours passed. Sneaking out wasnât his thing. But he couldnât let Y/N have this. Not this time. He wouldnât give her the satisfaction of thinking she was more daring than him.
Later that night, as Cameron made his way through the shadows of Weltonâs halls, he tried to calm the rising tide of his nerves. His heart pounded in his chest, each footstep feeling heavier than the last. This was wrong. Everything about it was wrong. He shouldnât be sneaking out to the woods, shouldnât be joining some secret society that defied everything Welton stood for.
But when he thought of Y/N, laughing and teasing him about being too scared to join them, he gritted his teeth and pressed forward.
The night was heavy with silence, the kind that pressed against Cameron's ears, heightening his anxiety as they made their way into the woods. Neil and Charlie led the group, their low murmurs and laughter breaking the stillness every now and then. Cameron lagged behind, mentally cataloging every risk, every infraction, every possible way this could go horribly wrong.
Then there was Y/N.
She darted ahead of the group, her footsteps loud as she ran through the leaves, laughing as she threw her arms out wide. âThis is it, boys! The start of our revolution!â she shouted into the night air.
Cameron winced. âShut up,â he hissed, jogging up to catch her. âWeâre still too close to the school!â
Y/N only grinned, glancing over her shoulder at him with a playful glint in her eyes. âRelax, Cameron. No oneâs going to hear us out here.â
âThey will if you keep yelling like that.â He grabbed her arm, tugging her back toward the group. âDo you ever think? Weâre supposed to be sneaky, and youâreââ
Before he could finish, Y/N spun around, eyes wide in mock innocence. âMe? You think Iâm the problem?â
âYes!â Cameronâs voice cracked slightly, his frustration rising. âYouâre always so loudââ
Y/N leaned in closer, yelling, âAm I?â
He groaned, placing his hand over her mouth to stop whatever retort she had coming. âJust... quiet.â
For a moment, Y/Nâs eyes locked onto his. They glimmered with mischief as Cameron rambled on about the consequences if they got caught. She wasnât even listening. She never listened. Then, without warning, she licked his hand.
âUgh!â Cameron pulled back, wiping his hand on his blazer.
Y/N smirked. âThanks for the taste, Cameron!â She winked, then darted ahead, disappearing into the trees.
Cameron stood there for a moment, seething as her laughter echoed back at him. âThat damn girl,â he muttered under his breath, before hurrying to catch up with the others.
A few weeks later, theyâd settled into their usual spot in the woods, the group began their poetry readings. Neil always read with confidence, Charlie with charm, and even Knox, when not obsessing over some girl, could manage to stumble through his lines.
Then there was Cameron, who dreaded his turn.
âI-I think Iâll go next,â Cameron announced, clearing his throat as he stood up, gripping the poetry book a little too tightly.
Y/N leaned over to Neil, whispering loud enough for Cameron to hear, âBrace yourselves, boys. Here comes another thrilling performance from Mr. Perfection himself.â
Cameronâs face burned. He shot her a look, but Y/N just smiled sweetly, batting her eyelashes in mock innocence. He started to read, his voice wavering on the first line.
âWh-Whose woods these are I think-I think I know. H-His-his house is in the-the village though.â
Y/N leaned in closer, whispering to Charlie. Cameron figured she would be making fun of his stuttering.
Cameron shot her another glare, stumbling on his next line. âH-He will not see m-me stopping he-here.â
Charlie snorted under his breath, but Neil shot Y/N a warning look. She rolled her eyes, crossing her arms and leaning back against a rock. Still, the damage was done, and Cameron barely made it through the rest of the poem without losing his nerve.
Later, when Knox started talking (again) about his girl troubles, Y/N took it as her cue to play matchmaker. âYou just need to be bolder, Knox! Girls love confidence. Youâve gotta show her youâre the one!â
Cameron sighed, rubbing his temples. âY/N, can you not? Weâre trying to read poetry, not solve Knoxâs love life.â
She turned to him, eyebrows raised. âWhatâs wrong, Cameron? Jealous? I can help you with your stuttering and your girl problems.â
He scoffed. âI donât have girl problems.â
âOh, really? Then why is your face red every time Iâm around?â Y/N shot back.
Lately, Y/N has been⌠different. Sheâd still tease him, but it wasnât with the same sharpness, the same eagerness to provoke a reaction. Her jokes seemed half-hearted, like she was holding something back.
One evening, after Cameron had finished reading his poem, without stuttering for once, he looked up to see Y/N staring at him. Not smirking or rolling her eyes, but actually staring. For a second, Cameron thought he mightâve imagined it, but when he caught her gaze, she quickly looked away, focusing on the ground.
What was that about?
âHey, Y/N,â Cameron asked after the meeting had ended, the others already making their way back toward the school. She stopped, turning to face him, the moonlight casting soft shadows over her face. âYou⌠didnât make fun of me tonight.â
She blinked, a slow smile creeping onto her lips. âWould you rather I had?â
Cameron shifted uncomfortably, unsure how to respond. âNo, I just⌠I noticed.â
âMaybe Iâm getting soft. Or maybe youâre getting better,â Y/N shrugged. âSee you at the Halloween party tomorrow.â
Before Cameron could reply, she brushed past him, her arm grazing his as she walked by. He stood there for a moment, confused, flustered, and less irritated than he usually was after one of their encounters.
Cameron adjusted his soldier's uniform for the tenth time, nervously scanning the cafeteria. The decorations were tacky but festive, with paper bats hanging from the ceiling and pumpkins lining the tables. People had gone all out with their costumes, and the music blaring from the speakers set the perfect atmosphere for the Halloween party at Chrisâs high school.
Cameron wasnât usually one for these kinds of things, but tonight, he was trying to make an effort. His friends were really excited and that kind of energy was contagious. He spotted Knox and Chris almost immediately. Knox was beaming, dressed as Batman, and Chris, right beside him in a Batwoman costume, clung to his arm like they were in their own little world.
Knox caught Cameronâs eye and waved him over. âCameron! You made it!â
âYeah, wouldnât miss it,â Cameron said, though his eyes were still darting around the room. âYou guys seen Charlie or Y/N?â
Chris and Knox exchanged a look before laughing.
Cameron frowned. âWhat?â
Knox shrugged, grinning. âYou donât want to know.â
Cameronâs confusion only deepened. âWhat do you mean by that?â
Neil strolled up at that moment, wearing a Dracula costume that, somehow, actually suited him. His cape billowed dramatically as he greeted them. Cameron wasted no time.
âNeil, whereâs Charlie and Y/N? They said theyâd be here.â
Neil shook his head, chuckling softly. âTrust me, Cameron, you donât want to know.â
Before Cameron could press further, the doors swung open, and Charlie made his grand entrance. Dressed as a pirate, complete with an eyepatch, a fake sword strapped to his waist, and a slightly tipsy grin, Charlie swaggered into the cafeteria.
âThere he is,â Knox said, laughing as Charlie made his way over.
âCameron!â Charlie greeted him loudly, saluting to his friend. âGood to see ya, soldier boy!â
Cameronâs nose crinkled. âYouâve been drinking already?â
âSir yes, sir!â Charlie smirked, holding up a cup of punch. He shoved the cup into Cameronâs hand. âHere, have some. Courtesy of me and Y/N.â
Cameron eyed the cup warily but took a sip. His throat burned slightly from the spike of alcohol, and he shot Charlie a look. âYou spiked the punch?â
Charlie wiggled his eyebrows. âOf course. Itâs a party, Cam! Loosen up!â
Cameron sighed, lowering the cup. âSpeaking of Y/N... where is she?â
Charlieâs eyes lit up with mischief, and he let out a low whistle. âOh, just wait until you see her. Sheâs⌠well, youâll see.â
The noise of the party seemed to dull as the doors swung open again, and in walked Y/N, dressed as Marilyn Monroe. The crowd parted like the Red Sea as she moved through, her heels clicking against the floor, and every head, boy and girl alike, turned to stare.
Y/N wore a tight, black dress that shimmered under the dim lights, with a plunging neckline that left little to the imagination. The back was almost entirely see-through, revealing glimpses of her skin with every step. The dress ended high on her thighs, adorned with frills that swayed as she walked. A long strand of pearls hung from her neck, falling gracefully down from her ruby-red lips as she held a pearl between them. Her hair was perfectly styled in soft, platinum blonde curls, pinned in a way that mimicked the iconic Marilyn Monroe look.
Cameron could only stare. His breath caught in his throat, and he felt his cheeks burning. He shouldâve known from Charlieâs reaction that Y/N would come dressed to impress, but this⌠this was something else.
âHoly...,â he muttered under his breath. âGirls shouldnât dress like that.â
Charlie elbowed him with a grin. âCome on, man. Just enjoy it.â
But Cameron couldnât. Or rather, he couldnât stop himself from looking. As Y/N made her way through the crowd, it was as if the entire room was drawn to her. She moved with confidence, a playful smirk on her lips as people whispered and gawked at her.
Charlie nudged Cameron again, this time a bit harder. âYou okay? You look like youâve seen a ghost.â
âIâŚâ Cameron stammered, quickly downing the rest of the punch in his cup. The alcohol did nothing to calm his nerves.
And then, she was there. Right in front of them.
Y/N smiled, looking between Charlie and Cameron. âHey, boys.â
Charlie gave her a whistle again. âY/N, youâve outdone yourself.â
Y/N gave a little twirl, the frills of her dress bouncing playfully. âYou like it?â Her eyes landed on Cameron, and her smile grew wider. âWhat about you, Cameron?â
Cameron swallowed hard. âI, uh... well...â
Before he could gather his thoughts, Charlie cut in, laughing. âCameronâs jaw was on the floor the second you walked in. Couldnât take his eyes off you.â
Y/Nâs eyes sparkled with amusement as she turned her full attention to Cameron. âReally?â Her voice was teasing, but there was a warmth in her expression that made Cameronâs face heat up even more.
âI-I wasnâtââ Cameron started to protest, but he felt his cheeks growing even redder, and he knew there was no denying it.
Y/Nâs smile widened, clearly pleased. âWell, Iâm glad you approve.â She reached out and lightly touched his arm. âI think your costume is great too, by the way. Very handsome.â
Cameron opened his mouth to respond, but no words came out. He nodded quickly, feeling more flustered than ever, and Charlie burst out laughing at the sight of him. Cameron couldnât tell if it was the alcohol or the heat rising in his cheeks, but either way, he was in over his head.
As Charlie walked away, giving Cameron a playful wink before disappearing into the crowd, Y/N stayed by Cameronâs side. The music had shifted to something slower, softer, and the energy in the room had mellowed. Y/N turned to Cameron, her smile softening as she caught his gaze.
âSo,â she began, taking a small step closer, âwhat do you say? Want to dance with me?â
Cameron blinked, taken aback. âDance? With⌠me?â
Y/N laughed, nodding. âYes, you. Come on, itâll be fun.â
Still confused, Cameron hesitated. âWhy are you being so⌠nice to me?â He glanced down, feeling the weight of her attention more than ever. âI mean, weâre not exactly⌠friends.â
Y/Nâs smile faded slightly, but there was a tenderness in her expression. âI guess somethingâs changed,â she said, shrugging lightly. âI donât want to be rivals anymore. I donât think we need to be.â
Cameronâs brow furrowed. âYou donât?â
âNo,â Y/N said simply. She looked him in the eyes, her expression sincere. âI donât want to argue with you all the time. Itâs exhausting. I think we could be something else. What do you think, Cameron? Is that okay with you?â
Cameron felt his heart race. She was being so open, so honest. He hadnât expected this. âI... yeah. Thatâs okay with me.â
Y/Nâs eyes twinkled as she took another step closer, her voice dropping to a soft, almost teasing tone. âGood. So... what do you think we should be, then?â
Cameron swallowed nervously, unsure of how to answer. âI... I donât know. What do you want to be?â
Y/Nâs smile grew wider, playful but warm. âWell,â she said, her fingers lightly brushing against his arm, âmaybe this can be our first date. You know, to figure out if we should just be friends... or something more.â
Cameronâs mind went blank for a second, but deep down, he knew what he wanted. He had always been drawn to her, even through their bickering, even when he told himself it was just rivalry. The truth was, it had always been something more.
âI thinkâŚâ he began, his voice a little shaky but determined. âI think Iâd like to be something more.â
Y/Nâs eyes lit up, her smile becoming something softer, more genuine. She leaned in slightly, her voice dropping to a whisper. âProve it.â
Without thinking, Cameron closed the distance between them, his lips meeting hers in a soft, tentative kiss. The world seemed to disappear for a moment. The party, the music, the people; everything faded into the background. It was just them, standing in the middle of the dance floor, sharing something neither of them had expected.
When they pulled apart, Y/N was smiling, her cheeks flushed. âWell, thatâs a good start.â
Cameron smiled back, feeling lighter than he had in a long time. âSo... does that mean weâre not rivals anymore?â
Y/N laughed, grabbing his hand and pulling him toward the center of the dance floor. âNope. From now on, weâre on the same team.â
As they began to dance, moving in time with the soft music, Cameron couldnât help but feel like this was the best first date he couldâve imagined. Y/N, with all her teasing and fire, was someone heâd always admired, and now, she was something more.
