Day Seventy-Six
I kind of can’t believe I had school today- like, actual classes in the building instead of a remote day- because snowmageddon did, in fact, happen overnight. But such is life in northern New England...
Only three of my seniors actually drove in because they knew we were doing stuff they could do from home: textbook work and a videoconference. The videoconference was really fun. We were talking with a former student turned field organizer. She’s been working in politics since her sophomore year: as an intern on a congressional campaign, then a fellow on a presidential, then as a staffer for NVDems, and now as the state director for a voter registration initiative down in Georgia that’s focused on getting young people registered and to the polls for the senate run-off. So, at 18, she’s tremendously accomplished, and my current students know her and look up to her. It was great that they could hear what she’s up to, why she thinks the work is important, and what shaped her to want to go and do it.
It’s a joy for me, too, to have one of my own former students come in as a guest speaker. That’s a really cool first for me.
In World, I was only missing a handful of students since most of the ninth graders ride the buses. They worked on conflict exploration assignments and studied their unit vocab. Some revised Book Papers, too, or started work on their final research projects, which we’ll formally begin next week. After lunch, we took a break- as did most of my colleagues’ classes- and took part in one of the school’s fun holiday traditions: decorating the classroom door (student council runs a contest).
I think it turned out pretty cute!
So we had a Halloween door decorating contest at work and I think I’m gonna win
Each stitch is a piece of yarn that I cut and glued onto the paper
also: • door decorated ✔️ (sort of lol) • doctor called ✔️ • prescription filled ✔️(needs to be picked up) • first acupuncture appointment scheduled ✔️ • nutritionist contacted ✔️ and still 😴✔️
Hehehe I'm an adult!!!🤣🧦

Dr Seuss themed, book week door
I volunteer in my 6 year old’s class once a week to help with extra reading and his teacher asked if I could help with a design – oh yes I can! Lol. I went on Pinterest and looked for ideas as to how to encourage young readers to get excited about reading and found some awesome ideas, including varied options for the “I will read” saying, inside of an extended version of Cat’s Hat.
