There's a local politician who has a commercial that very much (to me) illustrates how out of touch politicians are, but not in the typical way.
It's a pretty typical political commercial, it goes like this:
The politician is in the background working on an old truck. The politician's son, in his 20s, is in the foreground- "My dad's driven this truck forever! He changes his own oil too!"
Politician says, "Yep! Just trying to save some money..." And then the commercial goes on to say how this guy has saved tax-payers money (not true) and should be reelected.
On the surface, typical election season commerical.
Now here's my analysis about why it's so out of touch-
My immediate thought was- Why are you bragging about saving money changing your own oil, rather than making a commercial about supporting a local business? We, the voters, know how much you make as a Congressman. So instead of using your ample salary to fold back into your community, you're pocketing and not throwing some business to a local business. This is the commercial I would have made.
Congressman and mechanic are in the background looking at the engine of an old truck, maybe with cups of coffee. Congressman's son is in the foreground- "My dad's driven that truck for as long as I can remember! He's also brought his to Mechanic Joe's shop for just as long. He knows how hard it is to run a small business!
Cut to Mechanic Joe- Joe talks about how loyal a customer Congressman is and how the policies he's voted for help small businesses.
Cut to Congressman talking about how the other guys don't support small business like I do!
The of course it ends with Congressman, son, and mechanic standing together. Congressman says, "We have to take care of our community as well as Mechanic Joe has taken care of my truck, because we'll pass it along to our children." And then he hands the keys to his son.
If you want me to write political ads for you, let me know.

THE WEST WING 2.16 – “Somebody’s Going to Emergency, Somebody’s Going to Jail”
INSANE
The joke/not joke here is that Richard Schiff played Toby with the idea that Toby wanted to make-out with C.J. at any point. That's how he read the characters from the start. People who totally wanted to, but for some reason, didn't.
I have a teacher at my school who is jealous of the amount of time and support the new teachers are getting. This woman is a GRANDMOTHER and she is jealous of the attention young first-year teachers are getting. Today, she asked me to 'sit with her while she deletes things from her Google drive (NO!), barged into my classroom already talking while I was one-on-one testing a student, and insisted that I meet with her team tomorrow, even though my schedule is full. This woman is AT LEAST 15 years older than me.
Some people are in my life to remind me how not to be in this world.
what the fuck even is the point of a password if you have to send me a code every time i log in anyway. like why even have it
my voice will be amplified by the people or not at all
These parents have lost their EVER LOVING MINDS. There's a parent RANTING in a local Facebook group that her kids' school didn't "Notify her of the shooting..." "The shooting" in question was a man who shot at 2 state patrol officers 30 miles and one county over. We got an emergency alert on our phones that the shooter was on the run, mostly because our counties share emergency notification services, and because you have to go through our county if you travel east out of the other county. Just be aware, also, that we live in the most populous county in Colorado. Hundreds of thousands of people got this alert.
So to reiterate- this parent wanted the school where her kids go, to notify her that there was a shooting of state patrol officers 30 miles away in another county... make that make sense...
Instead of lamenting that the world has lost the last good person, let's all promise to pick up a little tiny bit of what Dolly did so we can make the world better together

I had pesto salmon and fresh spinach ricotta tortellini with pesto. And I ate more than I should have. My mouth is happy, my tummy is full, and my breath is pure garlic!!!
I had meetings all day today, and barely saw any students, so I feel like I didn't go to work and it wasn't a school day, but it was and now it's over. (And that is a ridiculous run on sentence that I would NEVER allow a student to write.)
why watch a new show or movie when you can rewatch the west wing?
I'm on season 1 episode 12 and I started yesterday, I'm going to try to watch the sorkin seasons in a week (no hate to the later seasons, but one through four are so good)
i will most likely not be successful, but I can try
My latest rewatch was watching along with The West Wing Weekly Podcast with Joshua Molina. SOOOO good!!!!
I think if I was getting my degree in anthropology now, I would study the western Europeans strict adherence to arbitrary 'rules' about life. It's only something I've recently learned about with all of the videos Western Europeans have made about being in the U.S. for the FIFA World Cup.
I'm fascinated with the amount of times I hear, "You're can do that!" "Can you do that?" "I didn't know you could do that!" "In [home country] you couldn't do that." And it's things like having chicken for breakfast or buying a big box of cereal or eating an ice cream cone while walking down the street. I watched a guy from Australia say like 7 variations of, "Can you put syrup on waffles?" There was a German man, visibly unsettled when told that Waffle House serves breakfast 24/7.
Now could these be overreacting for views,l? Absolutely. But it has brought on discussions of these "rules" cultures or societies have that have no real purpose. The thing it's brought into relief for me is that sure the U.S. has customs, but not rules. If I tell people that I had leftover spaghetti for breakfast, I might get weird looks, but I won't be told that I "CAN'T" do that.
My hypothesis would be that the U.S. American philosophy of "you can do whatever you want if you accept the responsibility" comes from being a nation of immigrants broke the "you can't do that" rules, just by leaving.
I'd be interested to see if Canada, Mexico, Central, and South American countries are more like the U.S. or Europe in that respect too.
I know that there are complex philosophies, psychologies, religious beliefs etc.
I've become fascinated by "rules" that are just made up

Listen, here's the thing, they should find every deleted scene, every blooper, every take, every production still, of every character/actor I have ever expressed interest in, and let ME decide what's relevant... how hard is that?
I've done this practice and it's really good!!!!
