I look at the guy who lives near my home,

And I wonder if he's always on his phone.

Now don't get me wrong he's a wonderful dude:

All laughter and smiles, you'll never see him rude.

But the second the good moments in life stop,

He pulls out the screen, that game with the blocks,

Or maybe it's insta, scrolling reel after reel.

Those videos that without any mercy steal

Our memories and attention like a

Tooth for the Tooth Fairy, but this time the

Change wasn't under our pillow...

...Like when we were kids-

Sorry for the abrupt change and rythem,

I just can help to think of the prison

This guy in my neighborhood is living in.

Just scrolling and scrolling until he's within

A last stretch of distance to finally releive

This pain that he's in, find happiness, you see?

Can't say I'm any better, but at least I know

That using this dopamine rush to tow

All the darkness inside me, the worst of the bout,

Won't work in the long run: it can't get out

So long as scrolling keeps ruling our lives.

For this guy I live near I wonder how many tires

Would it take to get him out into the world

That I think I remember enough to unfurl.

Like the watering hole so close by, just a couple of blocks.

I could show him, it's only a ten minute walk.

We'd leave the phone behind to rot like wood,

And I'd show him a place where I once stood

At the top of a hill not too long ago

With a couple of friends who didn't have phones.

We'd laugh and splash around in the sun

But soon we'd get wrinkled, and we'd be done,

Yet instead of going back alone to our cells,

We'd run somwhere new with revelling yells

Because we'd finally done it, been happy for once,

Something other than lost, or two litter runts.

They're silly, for sure, these childish dreams

And screw me, I know, but to me it seems,

The realness of joy isn't out of reach,

If we just grab it before we're already beat.

To the guy in my neighborhood, who's always on his phone,

Let's go out together instead of being alone

Because alone is where we decide to stay still,

And let the joy slip right out the window sill.

Alone on our phones we stay in our holes,

This pain inside growing black like mold.

It festers and corrodes us deep in our lungs,

Making us puppets simply waiting to be strung.

I'll knock on your door and we'll be off,

Chasing joy without pain, what a beautiful handoff.

I promise we can do it, be happy again,

simply so me and lilly can have a dsmp Dr without trauma-

Don't you just ever....

Trying to eat your pink jello
