#dolores muppet

I watched that movie fairly recently with my friends, which made it a much better experience, and I had to share the observation that these two aren’t featured in the movie at all. Lips not being there is most confusing because the Mayhem cutaway gag is too great for him to just not show up. We agreed that he either doesn’t like the sea or just didn’t want to be there; had more important matters to deal with. But of course I wasn’t expecting Dolores to be there at all, I’m not stupid.

So for years [what else is new] I’ve had the idea of drawing outfits for them if they were to be there. I wanted to relate their looks to what their roles might’ve been: Lips is with The Electric Mayhem so he’s obviously a lot more overtly pirate-y and costume-y, whilst Dolores is more formal in comparison but still has a unique look compared to others of a more substantial occupation. See how the buttons on her jacket are shinier than Lips’ ?? Also he was bleeding from a BRUTAL injury !!!!! His arm got CUT OFF !!!!!!!!!!!!! Rip

The perspective is all funky again; cutting the drawing off from their feet was something I didn’t know how much it would’ve fixed the drawing until the idea popped into my head.

The lyrics that are featured are from the song ‘Animal Rhapsody’ by The Raincoats, which, lyrically, could fit any character* but once I associated the song separately from the lyrics with this hitherto failing drawing, inspiration finally struck. Also, I think that the severe tone and octave difference in the vocals work surprisingly well for how these two sound. Taking in account that the amplitude of Dolores’ voice being much lower than Spamela’s since we only hear two words from her [unless you count any moments from At the Dance bits, S1:E5 comes to mind]. Still, she does sound vastly different from Spamela, so it works.

I’m only gonna show one screenshot because oohhhhhh I am dealing with microscopic pixels but if anyone has it available in better quality plEASE take a real close look for me. She’s right next to Lips, right ? She has to be… Those blurry pixels are her… right ???? RIGHT ?????????

I have a pinterest board for her with over 300 pins, so I’ve got the idea of her fashion sense down to a science, but it’s about time I draw her adorable little googoo gaga face. Especially since it’s the only difference from her usual muppet self. She’s unnaturally blonde by the way, if that wasn’t obvious.

The thing is, most of the muppets are going to be really hard for me to draw, if I ever drew more of them, thats one of two reasons as to my I always draw the same few. I’ve mastered Lips, Zoot is alright but he has very inconsistent designs so any difficulty in drawing him is HIS fault. Zondra is a perfect showcase of these two clashing artstyles that I have, I prefer the realistic one but I still have a great time drawing her either way. And of course, Dolores, who is a lot harder to draw than I let on. Seriously, I need to re-practice drawing her fucking weird head. So humanising muppets seems like the way to go, but then they become immediately unrecognisable so what’s the point ?? If I wanted to draw humans I would just draw human characters. These felty freaks are the only time I get to have some unabashed cartoon fun, for fucks sake !!

I’ve never quite been able to draw her right. I want to say that I’ve been actively struggling for almost 2 years but that doesn’t mean I’ve ever been happy with anything drawn previously. I’ve talked about it before so I won’t overwhelm another post with my personal grievances, but- ugh I just can’t help it. Muppets are so hard to draw, barring the obviously more humanoid ones.

I have such a strong personal style imprinted onto her; a Pinterest board thats booked and busy. Although, these are “outfits” that don’t really do much and therefore don’t need any fanfare.
