I’ve never quite been able to draw her right. I want to say that I’ve been actively struggling for almost 2 years but that doesn’t mean I’ve ever been happy with anything drawn previously. I’ve talked about it before so I won’t overwhelm another post with my personal grievances, but- ugh I just can’t help it. Muppets are so hard to draw, barring the obviously more humanoid ones.

I have such a strong personal style imprinted onto her; a Pinterest board thats booked and busy. Although, these are “outfits” that don’t really do much and therefore don’t need any fanfare.

I read his description for this first time in 2 years and I just… fell in love with him all over again. His birthday will always be on the 21st TO ME !!

This really made me remember why I love and hate drawing Dragon. His design is perfect to me; one of my favourite character designs of all time. But he’s fucking buff and wearing a tight fitted suit, do you understand how fucking annoying that is to draw ???! Here, you can see that his blazer is unbuttoned and being dramatically lifted up, but that ends up making his armpit look like it’s really low down. In fact, his whole right arms is a mess… and I still somehow struggle drawing nunchucks………..

I have so much to say about her… I’m not even going to attempt to sum it up in a quick sentence. It’s complicated, and it sucks, but I still prevail in loving her.

I started this drawing last year which is very indicative of my staggeringly low state of artistic inspiration. I suppose I haven’t lost my personal style, but I’m sick of it. I feel as if the things that truly inspire me aren’t being revealed nor expressed. A simple portrait like this will [and did] take over half a year; it feels impossible to like an idea of a composition, let alone be proud of a finished drawing. Like- what the fuck is her left arm doing ????

It’s more of a dump…

I’m honestly very nervous to be posting this much of my sketchbook in such a quick burst but nobody cares about these posts anyway.

This has been waiting around to be posted since 2024… oh well, better late than never [even though it’s technically only half finished]. I don’t love it but whatever…

Okay— so, I am an AVID shipper of these two, to the point of being upset when I see people not shipping them. Obviously, I don’t take that feeling seriously at all, all the BAM adults would probably fuck each other anyway. I am not the type to even care about shipping in the first place, I’ve never been like that, but Pinky and Kelly’s possible dynamic breaks that aspect of me.

I’ve had plans for writing fanfic… for years….

The perspective is all funky again; cutting the drawing off from their feet was something I didn’t know how much it would’ve fixed the drawing until the idea popped into my head.

The lyrics that are featured are from the song ‘Animal Rhapsody’ by The Raincoats, which, lyrically, could fit any character* but once I associated the song separately from the lyrics with this hitherto failing drawing, inspiration finally struck. Also, I think that the severe tone and octave difference in the vocals work surprisingly well for how these two sound. Taking in account that the amplitude of Dolores’ voice being much lower than Spamela’s since we only hear two words from her [unless you count any moments from At the Dance bits, S1:E5 comes to mind]. Still, she does sound vastly different from Spamela, so it works.

Sorry that her fashion is quite tame, she definitely considers herself a deathrocker but I find that it’s very hard to draw all black outfits ridden with detail since all the details get lost and muddled together, very unfortunate. She is inspired by how I used to dress some years ago where I was more of a deathrocker so maybe the reason why I don’t draw that type of dress is because actually dressing like that every other day takes so much fucking effort. I know dress corp-goth and trad-goth [lot of my wardrobe is actual clothes from the 1980’s] and it’s so much nicer.

The band that Millicent is in are very much corp and trad goth aesthetically but she has more of a punk background ; she would wear a shirt, tie, pencil skirt and nylon stockings [me too !!] when performing but her casual wear is a lot more distressed and revealing. I know I still put her in said nylon tights in these drawings but that’s just because I find that nicer and more fulfilling to draw, rather than ripped fishnets.

Another thing, something that is totally obvious, is that I’m unsure on her facial features. Whenever I make a character design, their body is the most important thing for me to figure out first, then their fashion, lastly their face, but faces have so much diversity in such a small space so it can be easy for my perfectionism to pop in. For Millicent, I’ve always had an idea for what she’d look like yet I’ve always given up before I could actually figure it out. Because there’s just… so many faces… I can’t decide !!

Yvonne is my favourite character of mine that I absolutely love to draw. Back when I first created her, it was incredibly important for me to perfect her since she is not based on any other character or person at all whatsoever. She is entirely of my own mind; the type of women I find attractive and, especially, the kind that I like to draw, just don’t exist in media. I got sick of completely redesigning various characters and finally decided to make my own muse.

Unfortunately, this is my only complete drawing of solely her, and the style of it is intentionally slightly out of character. Her fashion style is much more modern [for the 1970’s] and androgynous. This is even culturally vague, she doesn’t look very American or even Irish, which she is and tends to look like it.

This has been in my drafts since January. I don’t know why my procrastination gets so bad…

Anyway, at the time that I started writing this, I had recently watched Some Like It Hot, a movie that I absolutely LOVE, it still holds up as a queer comedy in my opinion and many others’. I’m not going to go deep into it but if you want to know more information, watch Matt Baume’s video on it. Or, ya know, the movie itself. Basically, there’s an all female jazz band that has a trombonist named Dolores and I feel like I briefly went insane.

I am not claiming that her puppeteer naming her Dolores was definitely a direct reference to this, I’ve never been like that no matter the context, this is purely just a very self indulgent observation that I knew nobody else would have. I felt like I was acting out of character when I made the connection. But it really makes sense, doesn’t it ? Is there any other obvious female trombonist named Dolores that I don’t know about ???? Like, she has short curly blonde hair and everything…

I enjoy the idea and feel I could relate muppet Dolores to movie Dolores in personality and charm rather than the shared name and instrument. Muppet Dolores doesn’t have a personality anyway so she’s got to get one from somewhere…

I wasn’t thinking about posting this at all since nobody cares about my ocs*, and that it doesn’t seem fully visually interesting- I had no idea what to do with the text so I had to stick with what I had for a place holder. But —actually, fuck that. The rendering is super fucking cool and this really helped me perfect that process.

*The person on the left is my friends character [he doesn’t use tumblr but I’m really trying to convince him to] and I’m not going to go into detail about them without my friend being involved. All you need to know is that they use they/them pronouns.
