It wonât let me not title this
Now that Laure was staying in England, officially staying in England with Sylvanie and Gilderoy and Marcus and Zephyr; sheâd taken the first job opportunity that fell into her lap. Which meant working at Dmitry Nottâs law firm. Sheâd never actually had a job before. At least not one that didnât involve babysitting children (or RenĂŠ). She wasnât sure what to expect.
And she certainly wasnât sure what the protocol was on seeing your new boss in public. Was she supposed to say hello? Was she allowed to say hello? No one taught her about this in school.
âMonsieur Nott!â She said, smiling at Dmitry but mostly smiling at Lord Stair. âI did not expect to see you. Do Iâ is there anything I can get you?â

The saddest part about speaking Russian was how little he needed to use it. Russian was fun! Heâd learned Cryllics! It had four completely different eâs! A good language, a fun language. More people needed to speak Russian.Â
Stumbling upon Dmitry had been a godsend. Discovering Dmitry could use help with his kitchen had been even better. Finally, a use for the label-maker. Beryl had been saving it for a rainy day.Â
Now he had it set to Cyrillic and life was looking up.Â
âHello hello!â He said as he knocked on the door, hoping to hear Lord Stair barking inside, âI am here to help your kitchen!â

Honestly it had taken a few days of being really gay with Nimue and constantly checking in on Alice, Frank, and Dorcas before Edith realized that she hadnât actually heard from Dmitry in a bit. He hadnât answered any of her letters or Floo calls which wasnât terribly unusual; but he also hadnât replied when sheâd asked what treats Lord Stair wanted from the pet store. That was unusual.Â
Now on Day 8 of No Dmitry, she sort of assumed heâd somehow died. Either in one of his weird fight club things or one of the attacks she wasnât sure, but she ought to go in and clear out the office either way. Which was a bummer honestly. Edith liked this job.
What she did not expect, however, was to walk into Dmitryâs office to find Dmitry just fucking sitting there.
Screaming, she tossed the Emergency Holy Water sheâd gotten just in case at probably-Demon-Dmitry who appeared to have several new tattoos and also like 15 energy drinks. âDEMON DMITRY, OH GOD! OUT OF THE OFFICE, OUT OF THE OFFICE!â

Walden didnât usually solve his problems using lawyers. It wasnât nearly as satisfying and no one even got punched. But a lawsuit would probably really annoy the Auror Office and he was kind of in to that idea. Could he even sue the Ministry while he worked there?Â
He looked around the office, feeling a little underwhelmed. Werenât lawyers supposed to be braggy and self-important? He felt like heâd walked into Damâs workspace pre-fame: less grandiose more organized chaos.
âDoes anyone even work here?â He asked the empty room. âThe door was fucking open, get better security.â

Her siblings
âDmitry is the best. Not that I play favourites, I do no- really do Nott if you will, but even though I didnât see him as much as V growing up heâs always been so good to me. Heâs a lifesaver, too. I mean, I had someââ legal problems of sorts a while back, and he was always there for me, he always has. And we meet up willingly to talk about nothing which is nice, and itâs not really something I do with other people.â
âBoth of my siblings are very smart. I mean, they have real jobs, and theyâre pretty prestigious jobs and theyâre the best at them, and if you count the... âother thingâ that I now morally disagree with,  they have two jobs. Itâs kind of intimidating, honestly. And I feel a little left out but in a good way. Like âThank God Iâm Not You, But Youâre Doing Great, Keep Going!â way.â
Better lawyer up, asshole
Walden had been pulled into questioning before. Hell, heâd been arrested before. But that had been in America and they couldnât prove anything there, and he hadnât yet had to Daisy out there somewhere worrying herself sick. Granted they couldnât actually prove anything this time either but the general idea of the thing still stood. Blair had scratched him and now Walden was in some serious trouble. Assuming the Aurors could actually string some thoughts together. Which he generally didnât assume. Only now he had Daisy to think about and so he had to consider the worst options. He could go to Azkaban for this.
Then Dmitry walked into the room they had him holed up in. âOh thank fuck, theyâve given me someone competent. A nice change for the Ministry. Are you the only lawyer in the whole world? Youâve been getting around.â He had a bad habit of chatting when he got truly nervous.
@nott-amused
hold me tight (or donât)
This thing that wasnât quite a thing but maybe was between himself and Dmitry was nebulous at its best, and inscrutable at its worst. For the most part they kept their encounters to after work hours and the privacy of either of their homes. Alone, Kingsley mostly knew what to make of their dynamic. In public, Kingsley was a cop and Dmitry was a lawyer, and infuriating on top of that. Granted those things stayed true in private as well, but it always seemed more pronounced in public.Â
Now the whole community was in one place and Liliana had briefly entrusted him with Blaise. It felt like a true honor. The woman was understandably picky about who she let watch her child, and while Kingsley knew proximity had likely won him the honor more than any actual earned respect, he still couldnât stop glowing. It had been so long since heâd had a baby to hold.
He walked up and down the Alley, chatting with people as he went, until he caught sight of Emma Vanity and Dmitry working.Â
âLook at this child!â He said as he got close enough to show Blaise off to his not-nothing-probably-something-Dmitry. âI would almost definitely die for this child. Heâs only shoved two questionable objects in his mouth so far today. I am nominating him for some sort of award, havenât decided what yet.â
Kingsley grinned at Dmitry. âOh, hi, by the way, howâs it going?â
