Duri felt like she'd been punched in the stomach, seeing him, watching the way he so casually tossed that ring like it meant nothing, and her eyes lingered for a moment too long on her own wedding ring, still pathetically sat on her finger. She moved closer as Beryl appeared. He had always been the brother that Duri liked the most. He spoke, which gave Duri a moment to collect herself, and then she moved closer to the edge of the fountain and pulled her own ring off. "I always wanted an answer, I'm starting to wonder if there even is one." She held out her palm to show the ring to Beryl before tossing it in the fountain right alongside Ferron's, watching it sink with a mixture of sadness and sick satisfaction. "Maybe it was me that was too good for him, in the end."
âMy family isnât very well known for satisfying answers. Mostly we're known for the money, and my parents inability to pick normal names for their children." At least all his sisters got gem names, those weren't so horrible.
He watched her ring sink and couldn't help but feel a bit proud on her behalf. She really had been too good for the lot of them. "You definitely were. Still are, most likely. He's very good at being exactly what our parents made him. It doesn't often leave room for anyone else.."
