I tried my hand at making some notebooks! They're not perfect but for my second binding attempt they are really great. I will be looking to invest in a heavy duty guillotine cutter though on behalf of my wrist 😅😅😅
I used a thicker high quality cardstock to print some collages. The paper is a smooth, high quality, cream colored 86 gsm. They all have approximately 60 pages- give or take a few.

Today I bring you a quick tutorial on how I make my handmade notebooks! These are probably one of my favourite items from my shop, since they are so relaxing to make!
I also talk about the process on my newest video, but I'm putting the instructions here, for those of you who prefer to read.
So, if you're ready, let's jump in!
1. printing the cover and cutting the sheets
My notebooks are A5 in size, so I print the cover on an A4 thicc textured paper. I set up the print to high quality and borderless.
The pages are made from 90gm Fabriano paper, which is perfect for drawing and taking notes. I buy their A2 drawing pads, so I also need to cut the sheets into A4 size.
2. marking the cover
I score the middle crease with a wooden knife since it's not sharp. I don't know if you can see, but I also make another crease on the right side of the middle crease, with a distance of about 0,5cm. I got this idea from Apenas Illustrator on Youtube, as it gives you some sort of "spine" on your notebook and it looks prettier.
3. saddle stitch bookbinding
I secure the cover and pages with two clips, using pieces of cardboard in between to avoid marks. I'm using 30 A4 sheets per notebook (60 pages).
I'll be using a saddle stitch for binding the notebook, so I punch a hole at the middle and then 2 holes on each side, all at the same distance.
Then I sew the pages using the saddle stitch, with a polyester thread.
4. folding the notebook
Then I fold the notebook and use a wooden knife to mark the crease. I fold it by that second mark we did on the right side on the middle crease.
5. triming and rounding corners
After folding the notebook, I trim off the pages with an x-acto knife and a metal ruller.
And I also like to round the corners to make them more resistant and pretty ♥
