Terribly gloomy day today so I'm cheering myself up making notebooks
A few weeks ago, @soadscrawl posted A Guide To Being Half-Galra, a masterpiece of Voltron scrapbook storytelling, with a healthy dose of hurt/comfort that made my heart grow three sizes.
It's 15 page long, and I'd been wanting to try short, scrapbook-like binding for ages. I'd seen some examples of fun, not-regular coptic stitches and—well. Soda's guide was so perfectly fitting the bill that I knew it was The Perfect Project for experimenting.
And I'm so happy I picked it. It had been a while since I had so much fun with a project, and the result is one of my favourite binds so far. ...The fact that it's glue-less might have to do with it.
Due to my uuuhhh... experimental approach, I'm writing the full process under the cut, if only for myself to remember it later. 😅

Labyrinth binding update!
Decided to age the cover papers so they look old. It worked really well when I bound Raised by Wolves first part too and I think it looks really great!

World Without End by diasterisms aka @therestofyourstory
There was a pile of pomegranates sitting on the sidewalk when I went outside to take these photos. Go figure.
World Without End is a 2016 (pre TLJ) fan fic based on the Hades and Persephone myth with one of the most er, memorable, uh, fornication scenes I have ever read.
So I tried something completely different for this one. This is my first ever Coptic-style bind. Nonadhesive! Held together by linen thread and tears. I really wanted to challenge myself to get the book title onto the spine, so it's sewn on. The covers were cast in resin with resin pomegranate seeds and gold embellishments. It's see-through!
The endpapers are toner-reactive foiled versions of art drawn and generously provided by Janaina Medeiros. Artwork on the interior of the book was illustrated by @nemling originally for an excerpt of this story in the Keeping the Stars Apart @reyloanthology.
All of the Greek references and Sith translations are in the endnotes.
Coptic notebook (Aug 2025) using beautiful handmade marbled paper by @renato-crepaldi (Aug 2023).
I don't make ficbindings with coptic binding very often because I like those to look more similar to traditionally published works. Coptic stitch is really satisfying to me though because it doesn't require glue to hold the covers and pages together, and because I like how the functional bits of the binding are clearly visible.
For this journal, I used hooked endpapers; you can see the "hook" in the first two pics above, with the paper wrapped around the section of pages at the very front and back of the book. I put extra paper on the inside covers so I wouldn't have to throw away cut pieces too narrow to put on another cover.
I made a book!
Adding the back cover made me want to cry a little but it was very fun
