As I type this I’m on hold with Dexcom customer service about getting the G6 and my mom helped me talk with Tandem earlier today about getting the X2! It’s like Christmas!
Dia-lemma
Adventures in diabetic cyborg life:
We have school off for President’s day tomorrow so I’m at my parents’ for the weekend. Brought home a sensor site change for my continuous glucose monitor. That’s the bit with the little needle/sensor that gets inserted under my skin, part of a contraption that gets attached to my belly by sticky-tape stuff and has to be changed every 7 days. I usually change it on Sunday afternoons, so I brought home the sensor to reapply today.
Only when the old one expired and I went to change it, it wanted me to pair a new transmitter. THAT is the part of the system that plugs into the sensor site and takes readings every 5 minutes to transmit to the receiver (in this case, my smartphone) where I can view my current(ish) blood glucose number and a chart of where it’s been for the past 24 hours, so I know when to take emergency glucose or more insulin, etc. I had a notification just a few days ago that this transmitter was getting low on battery (they last about 12 weeks so you keep plugging it into a new sensor site once a week) and that it would expire within two weeks.
TWO WEEKS. not five days. So did I think to bring a spare transmitter, which of course I have at home all ready to go, with me to my parents’ this weekend? No of course not.
So...looks like I’m either going 24 hours without the CGM or spending an hour or so to drive back home and plug in a new transmitter there. Sigh...I no longer know what it’s like not to have electronics plugged into me...will I survive one day without constantly having my little BG chart to look at?
At least I did bring plenty of BG test strips with me so I can prick my finger and test my sugars the old-school way as often as needed.
Dexcom G5 vs Enlite/Guardian 3 (clinical trial version)
I finally got a Dexcom (not covered by insurance, but I got one to use for a little bit). So I’m going to compare the two of them and look at their accuracy. Dexcom on my left arm and Enlite on my left hip; this way, I won’t have compression lows (i sleep on my right side), or if I do, both will be compressed.
I may or may not post the results, but I’ll post a review comparing the two sometime!
I heard a CGM go off in class today and thought I was low but it wasn't mine and thats how I met a new diabuddy :)

Put in a new sensor yesterday and not even 30 minutes later it accidentally gets ripped out! Put the new sensor in a new spot on my calf this time! So far it's been pretty spot on!

Eversense XL …
