Looking for feedback from fellow Cyborgs about this flag concept! Cyborg is a political disability label used by physically disabled people with some sort of machine doing a bodily function for them (prosthetic limbs, pacemakers, insulin pumps, and hearing aids all count as making someone a cyborg, and I'm sure there's more I don't know about!). Cyborg is just as much a political label as it is a disability one, not everyone who uses an aid such as those listed will identify as a Cyborg.

This flag is being created to have a symbol of pride for cyborgs, and as a way to show support for the cyborg rights movement.

Color meanings so far:

Black- Mourning cyborgs who have died due to medical discrimination and abuse. Also represents and the struggles that come with being a cyborg

Gold- Resistance and perseverance

Red- Physical disability (one of the common reasons someone may be a cyborg)

Green- Sensory disability (another common reason someone may be a cyborg)

White- Hope for the future

Blue- Community support and the cyborg rights movement

☆ 1 Month In! ☆

It may not seem like much to celebrate the first month of this blog, but you couldn't reach the next milestone without each one before it. So here's to celebrating the little things.

Small story from the main blog author for this little goal. I still remember when I was a small T1D in the hospital *after* my initial diagnosis, due to a DKA scare. I don't remember how old I was, but I was still young enough that I was allowed in the hospital's kids events room, where they did crafts and stuff. At the time, we were making T-shirts. I decided to make a diabetes awareness shirt, for both t1 and t2.

I remember after making the shirt, I was told, "you don't need to put type 2 awareness on that, everyone already knows about type 2. Type 1 needs more awareness."

At the time, I was simply saddened. But as I grew older, I learned something about that statement, and its meaning shifted in my heart. Because nobody really understands the difference between t1 and t2. That, and honestly, if you asked any person how t2 diabetes is caused, they'd simply blame it on diet or weight.

No. There isn't enough awareness for type 2. People know about it, but the stereotypes do. not. stop.

The stigmas continue; uneducated, ableist non-diabetics continue to treat us *all* like we're infants, incapable of caring for ourselves and telling us what we can/can't have. People still think insulin is just a pill. People still think all diabetics are obese. People still think type 2 is only caused by unhealthy eating. Type 2 is still stereotyped by f4tphobic people. So no, I'm not going to only extend this blog to type 1 diabetics.

Type 2 Diabetics, you are seen. You are loved.

Type 1 Diabetics, you are seen. You are loved.

Type 1.5 Diabetics/LADA, you are seen. You are loved.

Those with onset diabetes, you are seen. You are loved.

Those with insulin resistance, you are seen. You are loved.

Those with recurring hypoglycemia, you are seen. You are loved.

No matter who you are.

You are seen.

And you are loved.

And this stigma/stereotyping will end. One month at a time.

So let's celebrate this first one. We have many more to follow <3
