These are desert hobgoblins. They are small. They have very big ears. They would stab you without provocation, if given the opportunity.
They are very specificly made for my groups dnd world, but you guys might enjoy them too.
Hobgoblins in general are kind of feline in looks and nature. They have cat noses (do not boop), a few kinds have retractable claws and most have the ability to get high on catnip. Like cats most are also jerks.
Desert hobgoblins are similar to sand and black-footed cats.
Both live in deserts. They are both nocturnal and usually rest underground during the day and hunt during the night.
Large desert hobgoblin nations have build big underground citys, that are made of delicately carved sandstone. These cities sometimes even reach the groundwater. As such they are extremly valuble in the eyes of other desert dwellers.
There are many legends about these citys. Mainly due to their hiddenness and mysterious nature.
Sand cats and desert hobgoblins also have long hair covering the soles of their feet protecting them against the extreme heat of the desert. This way they also leave nearly no trace in the sand.
All desert hobgoblins have also extremes Long eyelashes to protect their eyes against sand.
Another shared feature are is the color and pattern. Most sand cats have pale, sandy or isabelline fur. It has a lighter color around the throat and on the belly. Markings vary, some have neither spots nor stripes, some are faintly spotted or striped, some have both patterns.
Desert hobgoblin hair color is more variable than sand cat coats. Most are one of the colors above, but some have blond, red, brown or rarely black hair.
Like the black-footed cat they are quite small, but deadly. They are Both very good hunters.
Desert hobgoblins often hunt, even if they don’t have to. They aren’t very picky and will try to eat anything that could possibly, in some definition of the word, be deemed edible.
Unlike most cats, desert hobgoblins are quite social creatures. They enjoy hunting together, cuddling and sleeping in a hobgoblin-pile.
The most special thing about desert hobgoblins is, that there are not a lot males. Most places one out of five is male. This is mostly because there are less males than females needed to preserve the species. There are also other possible explanations. For example there are rumors of a old godess they used to worship, that prefered women.
The few males that are there are even smaller, as such they are mostly used as magic users and domestic keepers.
All female hobgobins have tusks, same males are Born with them too. These males have the same tasks as the females in desert hobgoblin society. Some tribes even see them as blessed.
