✦ TITLE: Lord Anubis -- The God of Mummification and Funerals, and Guardian of the Dead
✦ SACRED ANIMAL: The Jackal
✦ DIVINE WEAPON: Ankh Scepter/Staff
✦ NOTABLE EPITHETS: "The Master of Embalming; Guardian of the Scales; The Counter of Hearts; Keeper of the Underworld"
✦ PROFILE: https://deitiesproject.com/portfolio/anubis/
----------
Lord Anubis is the son of Set and Nephthys; the nephew of Osiris and Isis; and cousins with Horus.
Despite his youth and reserved nature, Anubis is a well-respected funerary god who excels at performing his divine role. He rarely dwells on mixed feelings regarding the legacy of his family, and prefers to focus on his responsibilities and supporting those whom he holds dear.
DEITIES x OC_TOBER -- Deity Profiles [Full Character Lineup]
----------
Eheeeee I'm happy to get to Anubis to start off this week! He's the tertiary protagonist of the DEITIES main story, and one of my favorite gods from the Egyptian pantheon. Anubis is a much more subdued character compared to his father and cousin, but I like to think he gives the trio's dynamic a good balance during the storyline.
I'm running a bit dry on fun facts for the guardian jackal, though here's one I might have mentioned before and that feels relevant now:
Before my early story concepts developed into the current "DEITIES" (when I was still in grade school), I considered having Anubis as the main character rather than Set or Horus. Anubis's personality was very different though -- as was Horus's and Bastet's, actually -- and in hindsight, I'm really glad that the old versions of him and the rest of the cast were revamped haha;;;;
Also a bonus image, as I really didn’t want to leave his trusted companion demoness out of this post (I’ll need to revisit Ammit’s design another day):

✦ TITLE: Lord Set -- The God of Chaos, Deserts, Storms, Foreigners, and Violence
✦ SACRED ANIMAL: The Set Animal (Sha Animal)
✦ DIVINE WEAPON: The Was Scepter (including Spear form)
✦ NOTABLE EPITHETS: "Lord of the Desert; Ruler of the Red Lands; He of Great Strength; He Who Makes The Sky Tremble"
✦ PROFILE: https://deitiesproject.com/portfolio/set/
----------
Lord Set is the second-born of the royal children of Nut and Geb. He is the husband of Nephthys, and the father of Anubis.
Known for his mastery in combat and demon-slaying, Set's reputation was damaged by his misdeeds against the pantheon -- yet the notorious chaos god seems to revel in his infamy. Dismissing any past regrets, he displays his informal and crude attitude with friend and foe alike.
DEITIES x OC_TOBER -- Deity Profiles [Full Character Lineup]
----------
Okay now Set can have his moment to shine ✨
Set remains as the main character of DEITIES's main story, my own attempt at exploring one of the most vilified and multi-faceted gods in the mythology.
Though with my recent change in scope, he's been taking a little less spotlight while I've been developing others from the cast. Even then, I still develop Set offline with friends and he's been fleshed out quite a bit behind the scenes, so it'll be nice to revisit the big red chaos god in the future.
Fun… facts? But everything seems to be in excess with Set’s character, at least in DEITIES. Not that I even planned for it this way, but:
He’s the most adept with Transformation magic (30+ Animal forms, and several states of being).
He’s skilled with wielding a variety of other weapons -- though he favors staffs and blade polearms.
He has one of the highest body counts -- both in the traditional sense of who he’s killed (with Sekhmet likely exceeding this) + the amount of demons he’s slain over millennia; and as a euphemism for his various partners and flings.
He has the most associated songs on the project’s Spotify, including a 100 track masterlist, and... /goes to count-- I think 9 other separate and shared playlists.
He probably has the most featured artwork of the main cast thus far, so this took a while to narrow down lmao--
He has several additional but unlisted domains that include Warfare, Oases, Masculinity, and -- ahem -- Sexuality and Sexual Pleasure. I just had to hard cap him at the 5 up there, or it would have looked a bit ridiculous on his profile 💦
✦ TITLE: Lady Hathor -- The Goddess of Love and Beauty, Mining, Beer, and Dance
✦ SACRED ANIMAL: The Cow
✦ DIVINE WEAPON: Mirror Scepter
✦ NOTABLE EPITHETS: "Lady of the Offering; Mistress of the Stars; She Who Rejoices in The Horizon; Queen of the Dance"
✦ PROFILE: https://deitiesproject.com/portfolio/hathor/
----------
Lady Hathor is the daughter of Ra. Her sisters include Sekhmet, Mafdet, Serqet, and Bastet.
Hathor is a well-beloved goddess among both devotees and divinities, known for her warm nature and comforting presence. In addition to her musical talents and high mastery of healing magic, she holds a deep appreciation for various concepts of beauty and matters of the heart.
DEITIES x OC_TOBER -- Deity Profiles [Full Character Lineup]
----------
Another one of Ra's daughters to end the week off! I've only done a bit of development with Hathor, despite her popularity and wide influence in Egyptian mythology, but I adore her character thus far. Hopefully there will be more opportunity to let her shine in the project.
I feel like most of Hathor's fun facts have been scattered across different posts and askbox replies -- such as her singing talents; her relationship dynamic with her other sisters; Horus's long-held crush on her; and the fact that Hathor can easily drink everyone else under the table. So I'm not sure what more to offer at the moment, but that's what the askbox is for, if anyone wants to learn a bit more /o/
✦ TITLE: His Majesty Lord Ra, High King of the Deities -- The God of the Sun, Light, and Radiance
✦ SACRED ANIMAL: The Bennu Bird
✦ DIVINE WEAPON: The Aten (Divine Solar Disk)
✦ NOTABLE EPITHETS: "King of the Gods; Guardian of The Heavens; The Luminous One; Whose Commands Bring the Gods Into Being"
✦ PROFILE: https://deitiesproject.com/portfolio/ra/
----------
Lord Ra is the High King of the deities, and an aspect of Atum. He is the father of five daughters who include Sekhmet, Mafdet, Hathor, Serqet. and Bastet.
Regal and revered, Ra is the ruling king among the pantheon, and the powerful magic he wields through the sun grants him dominion over his citizens and realm. Despite his past biases and mistakes, the solar god strives to continue as a protective guardian to his entire kingdom.
DEITIES x OC_TOBER -- Deity Profiles [Full Character Lineup]
----------
20 out of 20, we did it ya’ll!! The final profile of this years OC_tober run is the High King himself, Ra!
There are many versions of Egyptian mythology with a designated ruler at the top of the pantheon. I ultimately chose Ra to serve as the high king, and to keep him distinct from others like Amun and Atum -- the latter of whom serves as the creator and All-father of the pantheon.
Many key myths revolve around Ra as a king and a solar god, and others refer to his role as divine ancestor and a father. All of this combined makes Ra one of the more complex and interesting gods I’ve had to characterize thus far for DEITIES. I hope that with more time, I’ll be able to showcase more facets of his character within in the project and story.
I’m not sure I have anything worthy of a fun fact for Ra though, aside from details that can be found by searching his character tag. That said, I am painfully aware that Ra still doesn’t have a designated headdress design yet. You’d think that as the High King, he ought to have one by now and that he’d constantly wear it, right?
Truthfully, this is partially due to my earlier indecision for how I wanted his headdress to look while drawing concept sketches, a few of which can be seen on instagram. And since I decided to nix headdresses for the complete lineup, i dodged needing to design on for Ra again 😂 Suffice it to say it hasn’t been my biggest priority, but eventually I will design a proper headdress/crown for Ra. Until then, I’m pretty fond of the way he looks without one, so he’ll likely still frequent the crown look for casual occasions even after this eventual update.
For any questions about Ra or the rest of the project or cast, you can submit your message in the reopened Askbox and I'll answer them during the weekend -- just be sure to review the FAQs & Guidelines, thank you! UPDATE: All wrapped up for this year, stay tuned for more blog updates later!
✦ TITLE: Lady Pakhet -- The Goddess of Hunting, Nighttime, and Sandstorms
✦ SACRED ANIMAL: The Caracal
✦ DIVINE WEAPON: Pair of Daggers
✦ NOTABLE EPITHETS: "She Who Scratches; Mistress of the Desert Plateau; The Night Huntress; Whose Eyes are Keen, Whose Claws are Sharp"
✦ PROFILE: https://deitiesproject.com/portfolio/pakhet/
----------
A fiercely-focused goddess known for her sharp claws and keen senses. Pakhet is generally agreeable, but hates being underestimated, and has few qualms with putting her opponents in their place. Despite her strong will, she has a tendency to fret over those she cares about. She is referred to as Lady Pakhet.
DEITIES x OC_TOBER -- Deity Profiles [Full Character Lineup]
----------
We're starting the last week of this OC_tober run with one more feline goddess, Pakhet!
She's one of the more obscure deities from the Egyptian pantheon, and I've seen some commentary that suggests she wasn't really a separate entity, but equated with other feline goddesses. Still, I managed to find enough information about Pakhet to justify making her own character, and I'm glad I could do so -- even if I hadn't been sure how to develop her at first.
Much like other deities from the past week like Wepwawet and Montu, Pakhet had been a part of the supporting cast before getting most of her development offline with friends, including fleshing out her personality and giving her a well-needed design revamp.
I think that covers the most relevant fun facts about Pakhet’s character. Aside from that, I can reconfirm I have another just-for-fun ship between her and my friend's deity OC, Lord Kairu, who was featured from that one post with them a while ago. KaiPak's rough first impressions vary depending on the AU, but they inevitably grow on each other and develop mutual respect and affection. Doesn't stop Pakhet from fussing over the big panther's antics, but it's out of love.

✦ TITLE: Lord Wepwawet -- The God of Hunting and Warfare, and the "Opener of Ways"
✦ SACRED ANIMAL: The Wolf
✦ DIVINE WEAPON: Bow and Arrow
✦ NOTABLE EPITHETS: "The Opener of Ways; Lord of the Sacred Land; Compassionate God; Who Leads the Way for the Gods"
✦ PROFILE: https://deitiesproject.com/portfolio/wepwawet/
----------
Wepwawet is an even-tempered wanderer and hunting god, who enjoys light sparring and the occasional company of others. He's proficient in creating and navigating portals with skills in spatial magic, but even his instinctual sense of direction can tend to get him lost. He is referred to as Lord Wepwawet.
DEITIES x OC_TOBER -- Deity Profiles [Full Character Lineup]

Okay NOW it's the divine wolf man's turn ✨ Hi Jinkz bby I know ur there--
Wepwawet started as part of the supporting cast, and it wasn't until relatively recently that he got loads of development as a character, mostly offline with friends. It spawned from that one ask box response I drew regarding his navigation skills, or lack thereof, and what started as a what-if has become a running joke among our friend group and the cast. Wep will be fine though, he always finds his way back.
For the first fun fact, and to address some of my thought process -- I have had people politely point out how recent research suggests that Wepwawet is a jackal -- not a wolf -- or that he doesn't actually have gray fur/hair, and that's completely valid. But given how many of the deities already double up on each other's sacred animal all the time (/stares at all the lions, snakes, and birds-of-prey…), I think it's okay to keep him lupine for some additional variety -- so a wolf he will remain for DEITIES.
The 2nd fun fact isn't really new, just reconfirming how I do ship Wepwawet with my friends' OC Lady Habibah for fun. So for anyone wondering about all the WepHabi art in this post and around the blog: /points at them… that's his soulmate 💖
✦ TITLE: Lord Thoth -- The God of Knowledge, Writing, and Wisdom
✦ SACRED ANIMALS: The Ibis and the Baboon
✦ DIVINE WEAPON: Tablet and Stylus
✦ NOTABLE EPITHETS: "Scribe of the Gods; Lord of Divine Words; Excellent of Magic; The Moon Shining In Heaven"
✦ PROFILE: https://deitiesproject.com/portfolio/thoth/
----------
Lord Thoth is the royal vizier and advisor of Ra, and he also serves as a lunar deity.
An experienced, high-ranking deity known by many roles and titles, Thoth is best regarded as the royal advisor. His vast knowledge is unparalleled among the gods, who often seek his wisdom and counsel -- among several tasks he fulfills unreservedly and to meticulous standards.
DEITIES x OC_TOBER -- Deity Profiles [Full Character Lineup]
----------
The penultimate profile of this OC_Tober run lmao, it's Lord Thoth!
I've been pleasantly surprised by how many people seem to like my rendition of Thoth -- I know he's highly popular in the mythology itself, but gosh /)/////(\ several of his posts are quite popular too (even his playlist?? Which is the shortest one I have cuz it's hard to find songs for him that don't overlap others lmao??? 😭 but I digress)
I'm happy that so many seem interested in him though, and with his recent revamp, it’ll give me a good excuse to try featuring the divine teacher more once I have the chance. Hopefully I can show more facets of his character this way, too.
Speaking of which -- and not sure if this counts as a fun fact, but let’s roll with it -- did ya'll know Thoth can actually get angry? Like, visibly angry? I've yet had a reason to let Thoth lose his seemingly-endless patience, even when someone is trying to get a rise out of him (stares at Set…), but even the wisdom god has his limits when tested enough. No deity is completely immune to moments of divine wrath aha ;;;;;
I have plans to push Thoth's limit in the main story (for good reason), but until then, here’s an older doodle of him in baboon form, simply because I wanted to practice drawing his literal and figurative fangs:
✦ TITLE: Lady Anuket -- The personified Goddess of the Nile River
✦ SACRED ANIMAL: The Gazelle
✦ DIVINE WEAPON: Bow and Arrow
✦ NOTABLE EPITHETS: "Lady of the Cataracts; The Embracer; The Giver of Life; The Woman Who Brings The Flood"
✦ PROFILE: https://deitiesproject.com/portfolio/anuket/
----------
Lady Anuket is the daughter of Khnum and the younger step-sister of Sobek. She serves alongside other river gods who include her brother and more.
Anuket is gifted at displaying refined and gracious manners among her peers, and fulfilling her duties to perfection. But this kind river goddess still maintains her boundaries and principles; it's best not to test her patience, nor to mistake her grace for being delicate.
DEITIES x OC_TOBER -- Deity Profiles [Full Character Lineup]
----------
The last-but-not-least goddess of the run, Anuket! Out of all the deities featured this month, I think Anuket has the most room for development, both with her character and with her artwork.
In fact, three of those pieces I shared above are all brand new, I just finished them all today 😂 I didn't want her post to be empty in comparison to everyone else okay-- All the more reason I'd like to revisit Anuket some more while exploring the project.
For now though, I have a better idea of her character than I did when I first drew her for inktober, and there's a lot to potentially work with for some time. I just enjoy the idea of a deity with a typical prey-animal form who's still able to kick away any predators or demons who try her -- albeit reluctantly, as she doesn't like to display this “less-than-graceful” side of herself 💦
Blanking a bit on fun facts, though I guess I can clarify why Sobek and Anuket are step-siblings (and/or adoptive… siblings…???). It's because in DEITIES -- so canon in project, not necessarily in the mythology -- they were each created by their respective creator-god parents; Neith created Sobek, and Khnum created Anuket. But they both still consider each other siblings, since their parents had wed each other some time later. With that said, hopefully I can draw the two river god siblings interacting another day, it’d be lots of fun /o/!!
