If you buy the Forma Souls you can summon a unit exactly as the Forma units. They are always neutral nature but have skills/weapons they’ve gained while in Hall Of Forms.

Ok so Lysithea's Crests aren't natural so I don't know if removing her Crests means it can be done for everyones. Like none of Marianne's endings, even with Linhardt and Hanneman, involve her losing her Crest she just comes to terms with it.

But regardless yeah she'd be more consistent, less hypocritical but an all powerful Emperor setting up a scientific division that forced the population to go through a procedure in order to remove something they were born with when said person might not want to.... That isn't any more palpable to me on a moral level than what she actually sets out to do, in fact I'd argue that's worse.

If she made it optional then great but if she really wanted to get rid of Crests she wouldn't be able to make it optional because there would always be people not willing to give it up and they would still have these ridiculous strength advantages that Crests supposed give you. So... I'll be honest in this regard I feel for Edelgard if she really wants to tare down the Crest System she's in a tough spot because there isn't any moral way you could go about it that wouldn't take a couple hundred to achieve, Edelgard wanted change quickly but if she wanted long lasting change she would have been better trying to work with the likes of Dimitri, Claude and Rhea because I think they could have tried to influence more gradual but long lasting change.

character rambles, huh?

i generally do my best rambling in the form of fic (i’m working on some claude fic i swear), but, in the meantime here’s some random thoughts on the top of my head:

* i know Manuela is mostly a fun gag character, an alcoholic disaster who swoons after unavailable men, BUT—dude that bitch has tenure.  i think that makes her objectively more successful than me AND better at drinking than me, which seems cosmically unfair (i should at least party harder than Actually Successful People), but is also kickass.  i find it fascinating that she literally canonically says “i don’t know” [why i joined the war]; reminds me of a lot of overachievers who wandered into vaguely-repugnant industries due to some weird blind spot in their own introspection.  and she’s clearly kind of an overachiever type, even if she hides it behind her fun party times demeanor.  i think her best ending is with Dorothea & is delightful…

…okay, wow, i hadn’t seen all of Manuela’s supports, i’m skimming them now and i’m howling

someone write the fucking fic where Seteh and Manuela actually go out for that drink

…and also wow that Sylvain support, i sure remember this episode of The O.C.

* a nit that’s been driving me crazy: cyril mentions in his B support with Shamir that “those of us from outside of Fodlan should support one another”, but he gets super tetchy when people try to imply the same thing in other support conversations—i can think of a couple rationales but my brain’s not quite settled on it yet.  there’s some interesting stuff going on with Cyril even though he’s not a personal fave

* so i went to a college with fraternities, but like… really snobby old-money fraternities.  it’s all east-coast old-money so they’re all nominally liberal/progressive, but you walk into one of the parties and you get an extreme yuck feeling because all these well-heeled douchebros are just chilling on the balcony leering at the women on the dance floor like a hawk scanning the prairie for its prey.

all these dudes were “charming” to some extent, total masters of social niceties, physically attractive, you could have a decent conversation with them.  sparkling, even.  but you didn’t trust them, you didn’t stay at that party too long, you had to wipe off the stench of lawful evil afterward

when i was chatting with a college friend about Fire Emblem, they casually mentioned, “Claude is literally every dude in [douchey old money frat] at [our college]” and i was shook

on the one hand i adore claude.  i don’t think he’s that evil.  but like—i could also see him in this frat, kinda, and YEAH THAT’S YOUR WEIRD OVERSHARING STORY OF THE DAY

How I feel about this character: An interesting subject especially to compare and contrast with Edelgard, and where their after-effects of being experimented on are alike and are different. Sometimes the “don’t treat me like a kid” act grates, but it also makes sense for her particular traumas.

Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: Cyril and Claude

My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: Edelgard

My unpopular opinion about this character: She is not the best magic person in the game, especially when you have Dorothea sitting pretty with Meteor and Agnea’s Arrow

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:more personal exploration of her relationship with Edelgard in CF and how her contribution would help both Edelgard be a successful ruler, and also help Fodlan as a whole

Favorite friendship for this character: Edelgard and Cyril
