The Wasteland almost felt pleasant. It was something that happened when you were around Deegan, you noticed. He made you feel safe, made things feel brighter and sweeter, even if he was, in all fairness, quite a stern and grumpy fellow most of the time. But sometimes, even he couldn't resist the urge to just sit back and cherish little moments, especially when you were encouraging him.

Curled up against his side, you looked out onto the road in front of you, empty except for a few rusted cars. No enemies. No danger. With a sigh, you spoke, drilling your oft repeated message into him.

"See, it's so important to just take a moment to yourself, Edward. You do enough for the Cabot, but nothing for you. And if it means they have to wait a little longer for you to get back to the house from whatever errand they have you running, then so be it."

You shouldn't have had to give him permission to be kind to himself, to remember that he was his own man, but he'd been working for Jack and his family for two hundred years, and you found he needed to be reminded quite often that there was a life outside of Cabot house, one that you were willing to be a part of.

From beside him, Deegan's fingers plucked a small flower from the remaining grass, reaching across his body and yours to tuck it behind your ear. His eyes softened as he looked at you, no longer the intense, tired stare he tended to have. It was so sweet, so welcoming, that you couldn't help yourself. You twisted your body and swung a leg over his thighs, sitting yourself down on his lap. Despite his surprise at your very public display of affection, he placed his hands on either side of your waist and let his fingers dance over your sides.

His touch was soft, always surprisingly gentle despite his strength and his often gruff attitude. You leaned in to show your appreciation with a gentle kiss, his eyelids closing as your lips touched his, a soft gravelly moan confirming his approval of your forward thinking. Before you knew it, you were grinding against his thighs, rolling your hips forward, breath hitching appreciatively each time you felt the stiff bulge at the front of his pants against you.

As you lifted yourself up to gain a better angle for running yourself against him, you felt Deegan's hands skirt over your thighs and around to your rear, cupping at your cheeks, fingers digging into the flesh.

"You're right, this is nice... feels good to take a break..."

Pleased with yourself, you let out a small giggle, a sweet sound that made his cheeks warm.

"... You're so smart... always know what's best..."

For as long as you'd known him, nothing had felt quite as good as hearing his approval, any praise he was willing to offer you. It was music to your ears, providing a soothing, comforting warmth that radiated through your bones.

"... so good... so very good..."

With a groan you almost headbutted him, pushing your lips against his with a passionate force that knocked him back a little. When you felt him push back a little, you placed your hand on his chest, stopping him with very little effort, letting him sink back down again and succumb to your control over his pleasure.

You pulled at his shirt, untucking it from his pants and sliding your hand under. Even through the ridges of his scarring, you could feel his muscles, carved into his chiselled torso, sending a tingle through your fingertips as they passed over them. Travelling upwards, you laid your palm against his breastbone for a moment, before letting your digits brush over his nipples. He let out a sharp breath, and, worried you had gone too far, you lifted your hand from him, only for it to be clamped back down against him by his own.

"No, it's ok... you can do that again, it feels nice."

Smiling, a mischievous grin that was encouraged by his permission, you teased at his nipple with your fingers, rolling the stiff bud between them. As you worked at him, you brought yourself to his lips for another kiss, pushing your tongue into his mouth and tasting his last coffee. His hands fell to your thighs and the pressure of the grip had you moaning into his mouth, dull aches as he bruised your skin at the force he held you with, making it difficult to keep grinding against the now throbbing bulge.

"Shit... Shit!"

The fingers embedded into your thighs twitched and released as his back arched and relaxed back against the tree. It took a few moments for you to understand what had happened, but the red of his cheeks and his sudden collapse into a panting puddle gave it away.

"So quick, Edward... I wasn't expecting that."

He smiled at your teasing.

"I wasn't expecting any of this, that might explain it."

Rolling your hips forward, you caught him off guard, and he winced, a rugged groan escaping from his throat.

"What are you doing?"

"I'm not done yet..."

With renewed vigour, inspired by the way his face screwed up in a twist of pleasure and pain, you kept grinding against him. The wet of his seed coated the front of his pants, soon covering yours too, sticky and cold in the breeze. Deegan reached behind him, his fingers scraping at the bark of the tree as you felt him begin to twitch again, his erection dwindling, but the arousal still pulsing through him.

"H-how long... I don't think... think I can..."

You placed a kiss to his lips, ending his sentence prematurely.

"Relax, Edward. You're already going to be late. What's another few minutes going to matter?"
