“Babe it’s time to wake up” Chase says shaking me awake
I groan in response “i don’t wanna gooooo” rolling back over and throwing the covers over my head.
“You slept through your alarm again, you sure your okay?”
I groan again in response to the question, and I very reluctantly get up.
“Yeah I’m fine just tired” walking over to our dresser to grab my favorite pair of black fig scrubs.
Chase stays silent for a moment before walking downstairs, probably to take the dogs out.
I start the shower and let the water warm up, I start getting nervous about my day.
The stress of working in veterinary medicine has been getting to me, worse and worse every shift.
I step in the shower just letting the water hit me and try to wake me up. Veterinary burn out was something I never thought I’d experience, but here I am. Chase has definitely noticed, but I haven’t exactly opened up about what’s going on.
I step out of the shower drying my hair and then my body off. I start getting my scrubs on dreading the day.
Chase opens the door slowly with a slight smile on his face and hair still sticking up from just getting up.
“I made you a protein shake I know you haven’t been wanting to eat breakfast, but you really need to”
I nod “thank you babe” I smile taking small sips of the shake.
Chase sits down on the bed across from the bathroom i know he’s concerned about me and i am too.
I finish getting ready and go grab my shoes down stairs, Chase follows close behind.
I didn’t always get anxious before but lord do I now.
“We can do take out tonight if you want” Chase mentions knowing that might cheer me up.
I smile “can we watch a movie too?” I cheer up quite a bit
“Well duh” he laughs “ what else goes good with takeout” he smiles closing the gap between us and giving me a kiss
“Don’t hesitate to call me if you need anything” he brushes a stray hair out of my face
“I will” I nod as I’m walking out the door
“I love you y/n be safe” Chase says as I walk out the door
“I love you too “ I blow him a kiss as I walk out the door.
The drive to work only gets worse the pit of dread in my stomach.
I pull into the driveway at work and park sighing, wishing I could crawl back in bed with Chase and hide from the world. It’s exhausting seeing sick animals all day most of which don’t make it. Sur you have your puppy visits and yearly but we’ve seen so many emergencies and euthanasia appointments recently.
Walking in the door I’m greeted by some of my work friends, and I check the calendar. That’s a lot of patients. We’re way over booked and understaffed. I’ll be lucky to get much of a break today.
It’s 12pm I’ve seen so many patients today I can’t keep my mind straight I didn’t eat this morning and hardly last night. Oh I wish I had finished that protein shake this morning.
I’m helping hold a fat German shepherd on the X-ray table when my legs start getting weak and my vision goes blurry and before I know it I’m on the ground out cold.
I see some of my co workers surround me,
“Someone call Chase” my best friend Katie said
“Riverbend Veterinary” pops up on my phone
Panic starts to arise in my chest knowing that something must be wrong.
“Hello this is Chase” putting the phone up to my ear
“It’s y/n she passed out, we were doing X-rays on a dog and she hit the floor”
“Oh shit, okay I’m on my way” I hang up the phone
Turning my truck around as I was headed to practice for the KTM factory racing team.
I should’ve known better, she left her protein shake out.
Pulling into the parking lot I bust through the doors running to the back of the animal hospital
“Chase” I weakly get up laying in the floor of my boss’s office
“Hey baby” he crouches down next to my head
“How are you feeling” pulling my head into his lap
“Not great” I start to cry
He wipes my tears away, “let’s get you home and we can talk about it there” he lifts me up bridal style and carries me out to his truck.
I was too exhausted to argue.
I fall asleep on the way back home, chase carries me up the stairs. And sets me on the bed, I hear him start the water in the bath tub. I’m still half out of it.
I stumble my way into the bathroom, Chase helps me undress and step into the bath. The water feels amazing.
He gets in with me, holding me from behind.
“I got you” he starts rubbing my shoulders and giving me kisses and I instantly relax.
“T-thank you” I sniffle lip quivering
“No need to thank me I love you, I’m always going to take care of you” he hugs me from behind.
“What did I do to deserve you” I relax into him letting myself drift off yet again
