Hank comes from a fairly wealthy family and was in his rebellious phase when he met Debbie, who was a bit younger than him.

They definitely had a good time together, but then Debbie accidentally got pregnant and the relationship sort of escalated faster than it would have otherwise, with Hanks parents giving him an ultimatum and saying they would either cut him off or he would have to straighten out and marry Debbie. So he does, gets married, becomes a corporate lawyer and kind of hates his life.

He’s become someone he wouldn’t have liked in his 20s and he resents himself for that, but like father like son he has a tendency to project. So he decides it’s Debbie and Billy’s fault. His isn’t physically abusive because he thinks he’s more civilized (yeah he’s an asshole) than that, but he’s extremely critical and passive aggressive, and otherwise he’s just not there.

He mostly lets Debbie raise Billy on her own- she was maybe 19 or 20 when she got pregnant so she didn’t have an established career and became a stay at home mom (nothing wrong with being a stay at home but I don’t know if she would have made that choice otherwise). At best Hank isn’t really interested in Billy, at worse he actively resents him for taking his life down the path he’s on.

Hank is also extremely concerned with appearances, both because he’s a lawyer and because he’s an asshole. He likes to find reasons to criticize Debbie and Billy for stepping out of line or making him look bad, something that’s definitely been directed at Billy’s queerness and autistic traits, although not in a direct way.

He’s not calling Billy slurs, he’s just saying things like “Spending an awful lot of time around that Macher boy aren’t you? At your age I was more focused on my girlfriend”. He also craps on him for his interest in horror and sees it as a juvenile interest that Billy needs to outgrow. And he was definitely very resistant to any idea of transition although Debbie overrode him on that. Now that Billy passes and is read as a man he’s switched to policing his masculinity so he isn’t found out .

By the time he starts sleeping with Maureen Prescott he sees his own marriage as a joke even though Debbie is still trying. She’s in a double bind, feeling both financially dependent and also having the old school “stay together for the kids mentality”. She’s really trying to make it work between her and Hank, so when she finds out that he’s not only not trying, but he’s cheating? With their’s son’s girlfriends mom?

She can’t do it anymore, and she can’t take Billy with her, she doesn’t even know where she’s going and she doesn’t want to mess up his education and the social connections he’s managed to build. She feels aweful leaving him but she’s thinking he’s strong and he can do it without her, because she thinks he basically is perfect. She doesn’t want him to get hung up on her, she thinks it will be easier for Billy if he can be mad at her instead of his dad so she doesn’t leave a note, she just leaves and cuts off contact.

I definitely think Debbie somewhat cared about Mickey like, at one point. But it was more of a seeing him as Billy situation. Like, her accidentally calling Mickey Billy half of the time, seeing billy when she sees him. Stuff like that. It’s like having a second son, a second chance. Except he’ll never be Billy.

Ghostface: *Tilts head*

Freddy: Somebody gave you really bad... acid.

Chucky, turning to Ghostface: *Thinking, alright this is the story then okay- *
