This object documents a split listening system:

left ear → cochlear implant right ear → hearing aid

digital / analogue late / quiet brittle / warm

The album is built inside that imbalance. Meaning is assembled from partial signal, delay, error, and inference. Noise isn’t corrected here — it’s treated as evidence.

Each cassette is accompanied by printed material that carries its own distortions: – dot-matrix signal scrolls printed via a misaligned driver – thermal DSP diagrams – typed and re-typed fragments – output left intentionally degraded

The artefact is the work. The tape is the working signal.

A small note on format (and friction):

This project was conceived as analogue-first. Cassette now, vinyl later if conditions allow.

Bandcamp, however, doesn’t currently allow a purely analogue release. Physical items must be tied to a digital container. As a result, signal // NOISE exists digitally too — reluctantly, explicitly, and priced accordingly.

The digital version functions as documentation, not destination. It’s there because the platform requires it, not because the project demands it.

A new tool-in-progress for turning .srt subtitle files into visual forms — each film leaving behind a kind of spectral residue.

For Melancholia I’ve tested seven different renderers:

Each one maps the rhythms of time, text, and silence in different ways: from tight lattices to dissolving orbits, from faint whispers to overloaded storms. They’re not “spectrograms” in the strict audio sense — more like misheard timelines, where words collapse into shapes and patterns.

The long-term aim is to find a filter that produces a unique signature for each film: something irreducible, distinct, impossible to fake. For now, these first seven are both experiments and echoes — ways of watching a film through its own captions.

An audiovisual tool for recursive translation — sound → subtitles → image → sound. At its core sits the .srt file: a liminal caption format that slips between signal and misrecognition, mirroring deafness, auditory processing disorder, and the ambiguities of communication.

This is a fragile, unfinished, glitch-ready beta — built for Intel Macs only. Expect crashes, odd behaviours, unexpected artefacts. But that’s the point: misinterpretation is part of the process.

"A FREE CONSULTATION WITH MR. SILVERTON"

Late 19th-century invitation card found on eBay.

Promising a “cure for deafness” without surgery, Rev. E.J. Silverton travelled town to town offering false hope to those desperate for sound.

Today, it reads like a relic—quack medicine and bold typography. But behind it is something more familiar:

Signal disguised as care. Noise packaged as salvation.

For many of us, deafness isn’t something to be cured, but a state to be understood—lived, navigated, shaped.

This piece will appear in Process Zine #00 as a nod to the long, messy history of miscommunication, exploitation, and the search for meaning in silence.

This is the sigil of Process Zine. A personal index card. A schematic. A lived philosophy.

At first glance, it’s simple: arrows, type, glyphs. But every part of this diagram holds something deeper — a system of opposites, a soft machine for navigating art, deafness, glitch, memory, and meaning.

At the centre: a dot. A node. A self. From this, four currents flow:

[ PARADOX ] — the source field. Every project, every word, every misheard caption begins here. Light vs dark. Deaf vs hearing. Analogue vs digital. Not problems to solve, but tensions to live inside.

[ ELSEWISE ] ← • → [ GLITCH LAB ] Home and work. Found and broken. A lived-in collection of objects and memory (Elsewise) meets the mechanised distortion of signal and sense (Glitch Lab). One curates decay. The other manufactures it.

[ PROCESS ZINE ] The publishing vessel. A zine, a community, a map of miscommunication. What flows in from paradox, Elsewise, and glitch emerges here as black and white pages, captioned images, stories, noise.

[ SIGNAL // NOISE ] The debut frequency. Edition zero. The first test transmission. A theme, an album, a glitchy breath in the space between signal and silence.

/ rainy night study A broken white line becomes a metronome. Slash after slash, the road strobes like a cursor. Headlights smear; time judders; rain turns glass into a low-pass filter. Signal tries to speak. The window answers with noise.

What the ear drops, the eye catches: sine-ish filaments, ghost frequencies in the wiper gap, caption marks on asphalt, perception gated by water + speed.

Filing this under signal // noise—future album textures, zine spreads, and video layers. A moving glyph: “/” as path, cut, beat, barrier, conduit.
