the first in a short series on morally ambiguous characters from (mostly) horror film & TV that we should hate but I love. these characters are portrayed by attractive actors and some have a certain charm to them that makes us fascinated by them, despite their cruel or heinous actions.
Blaine DeBeers serves as the overarching antagonist in iZombie's first season, and while never a Good Guy™, his morality is more in the shades of gray as the show goes on, helping Liv get brains when she needs it and saving Peyton after she is kidnapped by Mr. Boss's men. This undead crime lord made his first proper appearance (outside of flashbacks and visions) in the second episode, and his character is well-established in this one episode.
With a wicked smile, sharp wit and pop culture references ("what was it that LL Cool J said? 'Don't call it a comeback.'") , he charms his way through Seattle. Blaine's a fast smooth talker and quite the singer, briefly getting a gig at a piano bar in season 3 (in a season 2 episode, he enters the morgue singing the Cure's "Friday I'm in Love" in one of the best scenes). A perpetual thorn in the side of Liv Moore, Blaine exploits, manipulates, kills, and more. No matter what the state of what zombie-human relations are like in the city, Blaine will do whatever it takes to stay on top. And look good doing it.
