Thinking about how he'd be so enthusiastic about going down on her for the first time, but he gets nervous when he's actually there, and Steph grabbing him by the back of the head to guide him in.

Damian insults Steph a lot and Steph transparently, obviously, does not care at all but if he goes too far and actually does say something that really insults her he regrets it. He's also only insulting her because it feels safer to him than admitting emotional vulnerability so his attempts to apologize are also awkward and insulting in a way that's clearly just him being defensive. If you just had a transcript of the words he'd seem like an awful person but when you see him in person, shaking, embarrassed, nearly crying you understand the words aren't really a part of it. He's not being aggressive or dismissive towards her and he REALLY doesn't want to actually hurt her. He's just putting up walls so he can get close to someone and act like because HE'S in control of it he can't get hurt (he knows he isn't in control but that's his security blanket). Steph is willing to indulge his crush because this is the first time he's had a crush on a girl and this is a field of work where people you have crushes on are at increased risk of dying but if he gets genuinely hurtful she's got to let him know that wasn't okay, she's putting her foot down and if he wants that relationship back he's going to need to acknowledge that and, even if he doesn't directly apologize, he shows he knows he messed up and won't do that again.
