.・✫・゜・。..・✫・゜・。..・✫・゜・。.
Mori groaned.
Not out of pain — not exactly. That would imply sensation. What he felt was absence. A hollowing. Like someone had taken a scalpel and carved out the nerves from beneath his skin.
He cracked open one eye.
Sterile white light flickered overhead, tinted blue by the tinted lenses fixed into the ceiling. The sound of slow, even breathing wasn’t his. Machines beeped in rhythm, too calm, too clean. And feel faguely laying on medical bed, Mori tried to shift.
He couldn’t.
Leather restraints bit into his wrists and ankles. His chest was bare, stitched in some places, scabbed in others, and disturbingly numb everywhere else. That alone made him panic. That meant Doc had gotten to him.
And sure enough—
“You’re awake too soon.” Doc stood beside the medical bed, his expression half covered by mask unreadable, his gloves still wet with blood — Mori, presumably. A tray sat beside him, instruments soaking in crimson. Scalpels. Needles. Forceps. Bone saw.
Bone saw.
“I’m not finished treating you,” Doc said calmly, his voice as soothing as someone announcing a thunderstorm. Still focus “You keep re-opening wounds every time you try to escape. We agreed you will stay put, remember?”
Mori opened his mouth, but there was a strange weight on his tongue.
Bitter. Fuzzy. He didn’t remember agreeing to anything.
Doc picked up the syringe. “It’s not time for you to be awake yet, Mori sensei. You’ll make it worse. Try not to bite.”
Mori head twisted in a weak arc. “Doc—don’t—” he rasped.
But the sedative had already plunge into his vein. Darkness swam up from the corner of his eyes. Doc patted his shoulder as Mori sank back into unconsciousness.
The next time he awoke, Mori was no longer on a medical bed.
He was on his bed — the massive one close with his ‘children’ room. But this room didn’t feels like his room anymore. He could feel that even with his eyes closed. The air was still thick with disinfectant, but it lacked the subtle chemical undertone he always kept — the one only people like him noticed.
There was warmth here. Too much warmth.
.
.
.
When Mori opened his eyes again, he wasn’t in the medical room. He was in his bedroom — but it had been changed.
The faint scent of antiseptic remained, but gone were the hidden blades, the false-bottom drawers, the escape hatch beneath the nightstand. The room was softer now. Too soft. He was in bed, covered by silken blankets.
And bound.
He looked down. Chain cuffs, attached to the bedposts. His ankles were similarly restrained. The worst part was the collar around his neck — smooth, silver, humming with an ability-suppression pulse.
No Elise.
He couldn’t feel her. He couldn’t even remember how she felt.
The door creaked open.
Dazai.
But not the boy he remembered. This was Dazai Osamu, Port Mafia Boss Dazai, dressed in tailored black, gloves still on, wearing that red scarf of PM boss, and a face an emotionless mask with one eye still have bandaged.
The one from the Beast timeline.
The one who destroyed Mori legacy just to build something better.
But this version — his eyes betrayed something else. For a split second. Guilt, maybe.
Dazai sat on the edge of the bed. Not touching him. Just… looking.
“You’ve been overexerting yourself,” he said, voice low. “Trying to save everyone.”
Mori tried to speak, but his throat only croaked. He was still gagged — thin leather. Old trick of Doc.
“I know what you’re doing,” Dazai continue. “You think if Odasaku lives, none of this happens. That I’ll stay sane. That you’ll never be replaced.”
Dazai paused.
“But I already replaced you.”
Mori twitched violently. His chains rattled like bones.
“You didn’t fall because you were weak,” Dazai said. “You fell because you kept trying to carry all of us. Even when your knees broke.”
He reached forward and gently tapped the collar.
“You’re not allowed to bleed for us anymore.”
Mori tried to sit up — the chains held him firm.
“This wasn’t a coup,” Dazai said, almost kindly. “You just… fell. And I took over. Because someone had to.”
He leaned forward.
“You made a world where Odasaku could live,” he whispered. “And now, it’s your turn to rest. Whether you want to or not.”
.
.
.
Mori ran again.
Or tried to......
He almost made it to the stairwell. Almost. Until Chuuya caught him mid-step, tackled him without hesitation, and slammed him to the floor.
“You never learn,” Chuuya muttered in frustration but never mad at him, As Mori writhed, half-drugged, half-desperate. “God, you’re stubborn.”
Behind him, Albatross blocked the hallway, gun lowered.
“Sir, this is undignified,” Lippman sighed from the side. “Let the man heal before he becomes modern art on the pavement.”
“Boss will flip if he bleeds again,” muttered Piano Man, leaning against the wall. “Doc said another stunt and he will need new kidneys.”
Mori spat out his gag long enough to rasp, “I am not your patient—”
“You are our old man (not boss, not anymore) ” Albatross muttered. “And you're going nowhere.”
Iceman and Doc stood in the elevator when they hauled him in, needle already prepped.
“This is exhausting,” Doc said flatly. “Try breaking your other leg next time. It'll slow you down more naturally.”
They dragged him back in silence. Gin was already cleaning his room. Atsushi stood outside like a silent guard dog. Even Hirotsu had started referring to Dazai as Boss.
The only one who didn’t talk much anymore was Doc. He just treated Mori in silence, hands methodical, eyes unreadable.
Even when Mori tried to scream — they gagged him.
.
.
.
The next time Mori awoke, everyone was already there.
Dazai, seated on the sofa in beside the bed, like a king in shadow.
Chuuya by the door, arms crossed, face scowled.
Kōyō, cold and silent, watching him like a disappointed daughter that she is.
Gin standing stiffly by the wall, her fingers twitching.
Atsushi looked… conflicted.
the Flags — Lippman, Iceman, Albatross, Piano Man — all lingering in the corners, their presence a wall.
Doc, as always, stood closest to him, checking his health like usual.
“You’re stable now,” he said clinically. “You’re not going anywhere.”
Dazai rose, walking toward him.
“We’re not your enemies, Mori-sensei,” Dazai said. “We’re your legacy. You taught us how to lead. Now it’s your turn to let go.”
Mori breathed heavily through his nose, chest rising and falling.
He had saved Oda.
He had saved them all.
So why did it feel like suffocating?
why did it feel like they had buried him alive?
Dazai leaned in, eyes soft now (but oh, still dark) , as he gently touched the collar (it's become a habit), this make Mori flinched. Feeling like a claim rather than normal touch.
“Sleep,” he said. “And let this world stay perfect. You did your part. Now it’s ours part.”
And against his will, Mori eyes fluttered shut again. He dreamed of cages lined with gold, with everyone, Odasaku and Dazai smile behind glass.
Headcanon that Mori is Dazai's biological father and just takes after his mom a lot
Mori is canonically a father figure to Dazai, even if he's a shitty one, but they seem VERY similar in a lot of aspects (as stated by Mori himself).
Also, DadMori will never get old for me. He's old enough to have had kids, and there's one right there that's been in his custody for who knows how long.
And. They are both trans and Mori has to convince his idiot son to stop binding with bandages.

wip wednesday part 2 bc i just wrote this and i love it. extract from if i cross the line, chapter 13. for context, dazai is in mori’s office and laying down on the floor with elise this is for all the dadmori lovers in the chat
“Gimme some paper,” she asks right as she takes a few pages right from Elise’s stack. She also steals a broken pencil and a pink eraser.
“Hey! That’s mine!” She tries to take her stuff back but, with a snicker, Dazai holds it away from her.
“Girls,” Mori interrupts them when his phone call is over. “Will you stop? Our guests are just about to enter. We’re supposed to make a good impression.”
“Hard to do that when they’re gonna meet you,” Dazai answers, it earns her a giggle from Elise, and a sigh from Mori.
“Should you even be laying down like that?” Dazai simply raises her eyebrows at him so he continues. “Your injury. Did you even take off the stitches?”
“Why should I be telling you about my injuries?”
“I think you forget I'm an actual doctor, and that I had to stitch you up more times than I can count.”
"Yeah, too bad you didn’t slice my throat. I heard it’s a thing you do to your patients." He gives her an unimpressed look that makes her groan from how much he annoys her. “Yes! I took them off and made sure I didn’t get infected, happy?”
His answer is cut by the doors opening.
