One afternoon I'm on register. A coworker from produce happens to be bringing something to the front end while my current customer is complaining to me. Customer is complaining about the price of the apples. They're supposed to be 99 cents each, she says. They're ringing up 99 cents a pound. I tell her that's how they're supposed to ring - by weight, not quanitity. She doesn't believe me.
So my supervisor who's walking by, the customer pulls her over and questions her about the price. "No, they're done by weight," my supervisor says.
And as Produce Coworker is walking by, he's nodding in agreement. All apples are done by weight.
"Well I'll SHOW you where I saw the sign!" Customer insists.
So she drags Supervisor and Coworker back to produce, leaving me at register with a line of people waiting. Even though it's busy and these people want to get the hell out of there. Even though Coworker was only bringing something to someone and had to get back to his job in produce. Even though Supervisor had to be in at least 3 other places helping 3 other coworkers or customers at that moment. Surprise, surprise, when they got to the apples the sign said clear as day, 99 cents a pound.
"Oh you must have JUST put that sign up while I was on line, that's not what it said when I was here!" Customer argues.
Yes Customer, that's exactly what we do. We wait until you specifically leave produce to switch out the signs that changes one word to make you pay more for less than 2 pounds of apples because we LOVE screwing over you - not even other customers, you specifically - and give you something to complain about. -_-;
