My (imperfect) green eye theory for CU
Finally finished binge-watching season two of The epic tales of Captain Underpants.
...And honestly, that the actual HELL was with that Krupp Puppet? I mean the hideous looking one in animated form, not the cute live action puppets. I thought it was some hallucination I was having, but nope it was real. It didnāt belong in the show and I want to see it go back from the dark pits from whence it came.
But on the other hand, I noticed that the puppet has green eyes. Thereās a fan theory that the eyes of the live action sock puppets of the boys are their actual eye color, so that makes me wonder if this implies that Krupp/CUās eye color is green.
It makes sense when I think about that color theory from the film I did AND the use of green eyes in past animated films and how that is a rare characteristic. Specifically Disney AND Dreamworks Animation.
See, a handful of Disney villains (specifically Madame Tremaine and Scar) had green eyes. The joke being that green in a villain represents envy/greed. On the other hand, thereās very VERY few heroic characters who have green eyes in Disney canon, but two individuals who come into mind are Esmeralda and Rapunzel. The former is of course a person who fights for what is just, but Iām especially being reminded of Rapunzel (who at this time, is the ONLY Disney Princess to have green eyes). Remember that green is associated with creativityāand she is a creative personāand her sweet/excitable/curious/determined personality... does it feel familiar in any way? (*hint-hint*)
Ok, now for the Dreamworks Animation way they use green eyes. Pretty much a handful of their heroic characters have green eyes, with Hiccup (How to train your Dragon) and Po (Kung Fu Panda) coming to mind. In both those cases the two characters have creativity AND determination that is often celebrated as an ideal combination. Thereās two other characters I can recall who also have green eyesāMegamind (Megamind) and Princess Fiona (Shrek).
Hereās where it gets interesting. Those last two characters both deal with identity issues in their stories. In Megamindās case, itās that struggles with expectations versus being open to new things, in addition to trying to masquerade as someone entirely different to be closer to Roxanne for a good part of the story. For Fiona, sheās not only struggling with a curse that makes her human by day and ogre by night, but she also has identity/expectation issues that are caused because of this. Though of course both characters are loved and accepted as being the best they can be while staying true to who they are without conforming and destroying what is expected of them.
(One could argue that both Po and Hiccup also struggle with expectations placed upon them, but that doesnāt feel as strong of a theme for them as with the other two.)
Krupp/CU is really not that different from those guys. Heās both an antagonist (Krupp) and a hero (CU) dealing with a duel personality, though neither are aware of it. So Iām wondering... if Krupp/CU really DOES have green eyes, is it a further hint at the duality/conflicting sides of their identity as a person? As both a green eyed antagonist to George and Harold AND a heroic, green eyed ally who inspires creativity? Also keep in mindāwhatever eye color he has, itās the one part of his appearance he would not be able to change, much like with Megamind and Fiona.
Honestly, Pilkeyās the one who would know this answer. As a green eyed person myself (as anyone whoās seen me in fan art would know), I think that it would be AWESOME if I had something in common with CU. Still, I feel like sticking to my idea that he has dark brown eyes.
And also, I hope to god that Krupp puppet never shows up in the show in animated form EVER again.
