like i love the movie and the book, but their relationship in those is kind of interrupted by the actually alive joe starrett so yk... unless were throupling them up im conflicted

but in the series?? oh my god

the way both of them love each other so very much but neither of them allow themselves to consider it an actual possibility is just so ughhhh

marian is still in mourning for joe while trying to raise joey and she KNOWS that she loves shane, but she doesnt think that HE reciprocates her feelings. she doesnt want to ruin the relationship she has because that means he might stop working for her and then she wont be able to see him again

shane just sees himself as the hired help with a bad past and no true place in the family that no one could possibly love, especially marian, because hes not good enough and he wont make a move towards marian because he wants it to be HER decision how her life is regardless if hes in it or not

SHANE you are a part of the family whether you LIKE it or NOT. joey loves you, marian loves you, tom approves of you being with marian
