What we watched: The Bygone.
Who we watched it for: Shawn Hatosy.
What we thought: Not every man can pull off villainous facial hair. Shawn Hatosy is among them.
Also, there is a touch of whimsy left in during editing just to break the tension a little bit. Just enjoy it. Let it happen.

Discover how country music’s Highwaymen—Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, and Kris Kristofferson—built a legacy of classic Outlaw Western films.
Starting with the 1976 Outlaws album, a fistful of country stars united against a too-polished multi-track style of record production. Together, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson made a string of Westerns every bit as fun as Frank, Dino and Sammy’s heist comedies. They also embraced a tougher cowboy image. Willie and Waylon could not look more out of place in Nudie’s suits, and Johnny Cash had already adopted the “Man in Black” persona, a bit like Hoppy, but darker.
officially started writing for the main part of the western au now that the other one has been posted, so i figure i might as well share the summary for this one (im making no promises about release dates this time though because ive found myself with a few other wips)
It's that time of year for Currahee Ranch's annual trail drive and Winters and Nixon are determining which lucky men get to go along. Alongside that, Lipton and Speirs tend to the farm...among other things, Liebgott and Webster have to find middle ground somewhere, Martin wants to get a new job more than anything else, Luz should either buy something or get the hell out of Toye's general store, and everyone really, really needs to get their shit together. Too bad living in Easy is hardly as simple as the name would imply.
(and as a treat, some content below the cut)

A few weeks ago, I started a weekly tradition of watching a western each Wednesday night with my dad. Our movie for tonight, August 5, 2026, is Bad Day at Black Rock starring Spencer Tracy.
I don't know if I should channel Red River's cattle drive or Lonesome Dove's for this...maybe both. Though Red River does have the homoerotic subtext 🤔
