Am I the only one who gets uncomfortable/dislikes it when people take Colin's/Jen's other roles or pics with one of their significant others and turns it into a Captain Swan/Colifer manip? Or you know even taking real life couple's wedding pics and making it into one of those?
To me it comes off as you taking the photo (especially if it's one of the actors who plays a character in your fictional ship) and saying the real-life couple in it isn't good enough. The photo isn't good enough, so you're FIXING it to make it better. It's one thing if you take a generic photo (like from photostock or whatever) but to take a photo that one of your quote-on-quote faves shared of them and their significant other (or even a couple that has NOTHING to do with your fandom) is just wrong.
And for the role one, I think I've touched on this with other users here, but it makes it seem like you only care about the actor IF THEY'RE PLAYING SOMEONE FROM YOUR SHIP. Other than that you don't care. To me, that's just a weird way to make it seem like you're a fan, and one that makes it seem like you're not. I'm not saying you have to like all of the roles your fave plays. But you shouldn't disrespect their work, their scene partner's work, the director's work, etc.
Go ham with your AUs inspired by the works outside of the ship's fandom. But remember that the manips can come off as saying you don't think that one half (or more) of the people in the photo aren't enough for the other (or aren't enough to even have a cute photo).
PS: Same thing goes for ops too. Don't edit someone out of their op just to make it a manip for your ship.
