Fic Rec Friday Intro and FAQ
I canât do multiple posts with elaborate reviews/commentary today. I just wanted to say that over the last few months, while I was grappling with this overwhelmingly depressive sense of doom, profound sadness, hopelessness, and apathy, reading fanfiction was one of the most effective types of escapism I engaged in.Â
So, here are the fics that I have been reading, keeping track of, and loving:

Summary: âNamor's life changes in all the right ways the day his student's aunt picks him up from school.â
What I Like About It: It may seem lame af to describe something as âtastefulâ and mean it as a compliment, not a slight. I mean, this is a Suga Mama Shuri and a Baby Boy Namor (whom I call Châah in my head) but not in the way you think. Itâs a rom-com! Itâs sexy, itâs funny, itâs adorable. And these two kinky assholes are in love! Also, heâs a kindergarden teacher; a good one. The way he is written with these kids just makes my ovaries quiver.
2. Filthy Mouth
Fandom: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Pairing: Nashuri
Summary: Single father Namor goes on his first blind date and gets his world rocked.
What I Like About It: Almost the same as above, but in reverse! Though more of a straightforward relationship dynamic, not a kept man/woman scenario at all. More of a freak in sheets, lady in the streets situation. But again, there is love and devotion, as there always is with this pairing (well, when writers stay away from the darker dynamics of the ship). This is absolutely amazing. Superbly written, well-paced, tonally balanced, funny, sexy, and somewhat dramatic but not anxiety-inducing. Like, literally perfect.

Summary: Shuriâs world unravels when she discovers her husband Namorâs infidelity, leading to a heart-wrenching divorce. Amidst the chaos, she finds solace in Loki, a charming entrepreneur with a complicated past of his own. As their unexpected romance flourishes, Shuri grapples with co-parenting challenges, the complexities of new love, and unresolved feelings.
What I Like About It: I mean, I didnât think that a Love Triangle between Shuri, Loki, and Namor would be so intriguing. That it would be utterly confusing as to who you want to root for. That you would feel your heart beat for the plight of each character. Thereâs so much at stake, but especially the happiness of a little boy caught in the middle of the mess adults can make of their lives. Itâs drama personified, and I live for each installment. Plus, Loki is written so well here, itâs hard not to root for him.

Summary: A year after her motherâs death, Shuri burns her mourning clothes on the beach in Haiti and wakes up not only back in Talokan, but also back in time. Given the chance to do things differently, can she prevent her motherâs death and convince Namor of a peaceful alliance?
What I Like About It: THIS fic is everything I want in a Nashuri. It is another âWhat Ifâ scenario, mapped and tread carefully. Weâve all imagined what could have been if it had been different, as Namor lamented on the beach that day just after he speared the Black Panther, right before she almost killed him and forced him to yield to her. Go read this! It is so satisfying!

Hi! Itâs been awhile! The last couple of months have been ⌠interesting, but mostly good.
I took a cruise for my 40th birthday. Had a great time.
I went to a convention in Houston TX to meet Tenoch Huerta. Really enjoyed myself.
I got back home and got some kind of jet lag + mild cold + insomnia due to stress, and so I just took it easy.
I also decided, instead of writing fanfiction, I am going to just work on finishing my screenplay. I started a journal to track my writing process and progress here:
I was also interviewed by one of my good friends for her podcast, which I posted about here. Check it out if youâre interested in getting to know me better.
With that being said, I also did a lot of reading. Not as much as I wanted to, but a lot. All of todayâs recâs are of the BPWF variety. However, in the next installment, I will be focusing on other fandoms and ships Iâve been tracking. Stay tuned for that.

Summary:  ⌠just know that Aneka, Namor, Attuma, and Oni have little get togethers where they gush over their wives.
Why I Love It: This is the kind of fun stuff that serves as a cooling palette cleanser when you want a little light reading that involves your favorite characters just enjoying themselves. There are shenanigans, but it maintains its lightheartedness and sense of humor. The writer is having fun with this, I can tell, because I am having fun reading it. Nothing is more fun than having these characters interact with one another in a spousal support group, because they are utterly addicted to the loves of their lives!
This is an offshoot of another series, The Sun and The Sky, which has been the writerâs starting point for these characters, especially the original character Oni. It began as an Attoye one shot, from what I can tell, and has expanded into an ensemble epic with two additional multi-chapter installments. I have not read this series yet, but I did read the âI Worship my Wife Committeeâ shorts and it made me want to check out the original series. I plan to do just that before the next Fic Rec Friday!
I think it would be best to start with the series itself before reading this? Thatâs what I should have done. But, think of this as something to look forward to once you get to that point. This short series of chapters does stand on their own as separate, entertaining little vignettes, but start with the whole meal, then cap it off with these sweet little bites!Â
Summary: Rafa loved women. Rafa loved weed. Now he found a woman who loves weed just like he does. And he is immediately down bad.
A/N: Request: so I was thinking what if he met a woman who was strong and sassy and also into *cough cough* gardening *cough* and he just melts for her but sheâs a hard to get maybe cos theyâre rivals and she has a reputation to uphold being a strong independent woman ??? Maybe some smut with them giving into the attraction ??

Why I Love It: Uh, ya'll already know THAT I AM DOWNBAD FOR RAFA.
When I first took notice of Tenoch Huerta, I had no idea his most famous role before Namor was portraying an infamous drug dealer in a Narcos TV spin-off. I never watched that show (still havenât) but I am so hyper fixated on Tenoch, I did watch all of his scenes on YouTube and salivated over every gif I came across on Tumblr. I lamented here in a post one day that I hadnât been able to find any fic for the character, and was pointed to this gem.
Rafa the character is fascinating to me â as problematic as I know people may find the distinction fans want to make to separate their regard from the real criminal depicted by Tenoch in the series. Itâs something I still question. I donât care too much for film, TV or media around drugs and crime. My family loves Scarface, I despise it. People will recommend the Godfather, I have never, nor will I ever watch it (some in the industry insist I study it if I want to write movies, but I still refuse). No different with Narcos. So why do I like the âcharacterâ? Why am I drawn to him; curious? Why am I attracted?
Tenoch, plain and simple. I have no other way to articulate that thought, as it is shallow: I like the way Tenoch looks and speaks and characterizes Rafa, no deeper than that.
This story, a one-shot, the first Iâve read featuring him, is a Reader and itâs the perfect way to edge into a full blown hyperfixation. Itâs my first in the realm of Tenochâs other roles outside of Namor. Itâs well paced, well plotted, well characterized, not too long or bitter, but rather sweet. I find that of the handful of fics Iâve read featuring Rafa, they are mostly tragedies. This one is not. Itâs an easy narrative to be swept away by. I am not Afro Latina, or Mexican, and I donât smoke weed, but I had no trouble reading this as I would âwatchâ an episode of the TV show, despite it being a âReaderâ fic. And since I will probably never actually watch that show, this is good for me.
This is the first fic I read from the author. If you are intrigued by Rafa, here is a way for you to feed your curiosity that doesnât require payment in angst.

When he meets Shuri, he changes the terms to give Wakanda everything they want â in exchange for Shuri's hand in marriage. While Ramonda refuses to even consider, Shuri can't help but be as drawn to Namor as he is to her. And the choices she makes will shape both their kingdoms in the time to come . . .

Why I Love It: So, there are always going to be the Hades/Persephone fics with a pairing like this. Itâs just par for the course.Â
What I love about this is that Shuri not only has agency/autonomy, she is level headed and practices diplomacy, and she is full of wonder and joy. Her mother is still alive, so she is not bitter with hatred towards Namor. She is still the curious, nerdy, charming young woman that is eager to explore a new world. Namor does not push, this is not dubious consent. Nor does he manipulate. He is just as awed and curious and charmed by her as she is of him. And he is honest, as he is wont to be. The union is natural, though there are obstacles.
Ramonda, in conjunction, is not written as a mean-spirited villain here (as she has been in a few Nashuriâs Iâve attempted to read), just a concerned and still grieving mother. What would you do if a 500 year old blood thirsty God asked you for your only remaining and youngest childâs hand in marriage? Shuri patiently, and respectfully reasons with her mother, asking for her independence and gaining it on her own terms. Shuri does this while acknowledging her mother's grief and anxiety around losing yet another child. And to the depth of the sea no less. And because of this, Ramonda comes to recognize her daughter as a woman with her own right to choose as she pleases, though it pains her. Reluctantly, albeit. But it's there. A mutual understanding and respect for one another.
The story is ongoing, but the writer proves that the union between Namor and Shuri is a good one, and strong. That it was the right thing to do. It has its obstacles, of course, a good drama needs conflict, but they are not no-win scenarios. And if the characters miscommunicate at times, they always find their way to the truth and express it with love and trust (so far). I would call this writing a healthy depiction of what Nashuri could look like outside of canon.

Hello! Because of my love for Wakanda Forever in all of its GLORY, I have been sucked back into the world of fanfiction!
Formerly known as @krockafella, I actually came back to Tumblr after I left all social media over a year ago, because I am truly hyper-fixated on Tenoch Huerta after his turn as Namor in BPWF. Also the performances that Letitia Wright and Angela Bassett gave in this film deserved all of the awards! Those women, along with Danai Gurira and Lupita Nyongâo are the backbone AND the meat of the film, no question. This film, more than even the first, has me thinking about it and consuming content/media about it almost obsessively now days. Y'all know how it goes.
So now, during this phase of hyper-fixation, I am interested in exploring these characters and reading the ways in which others interpret their motivations and arcs in their writing.
Fic writers in this fandom have been FEEDING me, with such amazing content! Every day I am amazed at the creativity and skill people are demonstrating with the fruitful motivation the film provided.

*If I specify that Reader fic characters be coded as Black or a Character of Color, it's because a lot of Reader fic tends to be coded white. If the reader fic is written in such a way as to truly be devoid of indicators to race/ethnicity, I will read it.
A few things to know:
I ship both Nashuri and Attoye (among other pairings, some of them are rare pairs). I DO NOT engage in fandom wars or discourse. I do not argue with strangers on the internet at my big age. If either of these pairs doesnât make sense to you, or weirds you out or makes you uncomfortable or upsets you, itâs OK, but we donât need to argue about it. If you are an author and your fic is on this list, but you do not wish for it to be included because you donât want it on a list with the other pairing, just let me know (cordially please, without attitude) and I will remove your fic from the list. No harm, no foul.
That said, if there is anything on the list that you feel is beyond simply nonsensical, but problematic, genuinely offensive, discriminatory, et al, please let me know. I do my best not to read or recommend things that fall on that spectrum, but if you have a genuine concern I of course want to know if there's something I overlooked or didn't consider.
These recs will be posted with the link to the fic on ao3 and if the author has a Tumblr, their @handle. If the author has no Tumblr, but is on some other social platform, I will post that instead.
If the fic is posted on Tumblr, I will â¤ď¸ it first, and then it will be queued to reblog on Fridays. I will usually comment on it, but my comments can mostly be found in the tags. If that is unacceptable to you, Iâm sorry, thatâs the way I like to run my blog. I like to do a rapid scroll, like, and then go through my likes some time later (days maybe weeks depending on how busy I am) and queue them up for reblogs. If youâd rather Iâd reblog as soon as you post your fic or not at all, let me know (cordially please, without attitude) and I will do my best. I have a full time job, and sometimes all I have time for is to scroll and like quickly. Then on the weekends, I sit my old ass down, go through my likes and queue them up. Iâm saying this multiple times so that there is no misunderstanding.
If the author has more than one work, not all of them will be listed in one post. I may not have read the others yet, and spreading them out will help keep the list fresh.
I will only recommend what I have read. I canât recommend something I havenât read myself, for obvious reasons. If you want me to read something, please ask. However, if it doesnât end up on this list, please understand. I am open to giving feedback, but I probably wonât recommend something I donât like.

Why I Love It: I have an affinity for threesomes. Iâve attempted to write them before, and this just takes me back to the days where I wasnât too busy to let my freak flag fly all over this website.
This also took me by surprise, because it involves Namor, but the surprise is a welcome one because the way this is written, he belongs. He belongs here, and he is ostensibly the one in control of this situation. But actually, Okoye is the one in control here! What I love about this is not only do the two male parties make sure she is the one giving very specific, verbal consent, multiple times, but they are gentle with her protests, not responding in anger or retaliation. Itâs a turn on. Consent is sexy, no?
Iâm seriously hanging on edge (patiently) waiting for the full story to begin.

Why I Love It: When I came across this story, I read all six chapters in one go.
Superbly constructed, it moves. If you are unfamiliar with the myth it borrows from, as I was, the tale it weaves is so intriguing, trying to figure out what will happen next is so much a apart of the fun of reading it. Things are not as they seem. You begin this story feeling one way, and end it having changed your mind twice over.
Itâs fun, sexy, mysterious, and angsty. Itâs a quick read, but once you reach the end, you really wonât want it to be over. The author has made this the first installment of a series of works (Give me Nashuri, any Nashuri, and I will show you how the root of Nashuri is Greek) and I REALLY hope the other installments come sooner rather than later!
