'Nature Through The Eyes Of The Romans' Exhibition Photo Set 1 at The Manchester Museum, 15.4.18. A new exhibition that explores the cultural significance of flora and fauna for Roman civilisation through the work of Pliny.

Northumberland is one of the richest counties for prehistoric rock art and the stretch of Roman wall at Steel Rigg seems to provide a dramatic backdrop for several examples of cup marks and grooves. Whether these existed pre-wall is of debate. Were they created by Romans idling away a moment or was this an occupational statement in regards to the construction of a Roman wall upon a native British sacred site? Are they more modern?
