And this is an electronic lock with a thing with a key fob scanner box that can save up to 999 key fobs, plus some override keys and an emergency exit button, all running on a UK mains plug:
For the latter, I can also send a manual.
Does anyone think they might have use for any of it? I am happy to send it to anyone in the UK for price of postage. I'm thinking it might be especially useful for a small, beginner makerspace that wants to be available 24/7 to members, without having to get keys cut all the time. Key fobs are so cheap, and you can remotely deactivate one if someone gets banned.
Our makerspace has just upgraded the door system, so this stuff is going spare, and I would hate for it to be thrown out!

I just can't stop doing projects... I'm really happy with how this sign turned out. Spent only two days working on this, thanks to my library's makerspace!
A Good Start: Metalsmith Society’s Guide to Jewelry Making
Because I have been sewing for so long, and because I don’t teach sewing, but history, it is hard for me to gauge the best sewing books for beginners. But I am a beginner at metalsmithing and taken a few classes recently, and I can recommend this book with enthusiasm.
Corkie Bolton organizes this book with the basics about tools and materials, then goes over the fundamentals of working with metal from soldering all the way to stonesetting. She writes clearly and conversationally. She points out where you need to be careful and how to solve problems if something goes wrong. “Tips from Our Community” show up regularly on the pages, allowing you to learn from other members of the Metalsmith’s Society which Bolton founded precisely in order to share the wisdom of makers. The technical images are also crystal clear as you can see. Then the last section offers projects that a beginner can do, starting with stud earrings, and hoop earrings, working up to the pendant you see here. Each begins with a list of the tools and materials that you will need.
Of course, you should look for classes to help you along the way as many maker spaces have opened up recently. For this book, you can find a soft cover or an e-book here: https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the-metalsmith-societys-guide-to-jewelry-making-corkie-bolton/1141056193?ean=9781645675860
With @makerfaire less than 3 weeks away my students are working hard at putting the final touches on their projects. This Lego Ev3 fan is being created by one of my 6th graders. He would appreciate your suggestions on how he can upgrade his project! What would you add to give this project a little more creativity! The crazier the idea the better!! - - - - - #lego #legoeducation #legomindstorms #legomindstormsev3 #ev3 #mindstorms #robotics #makerfaire @makekorea #maker #makerspace #makerspaces #makersgonnamake #edtech #techteacher #elementaryteacher #stem #stemeducation #stemkids #innovation #diyelectronics (at Busan, South Korea) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3E-Z_en_-G/?igshid=1qeokv2flnpyq
As always I am late to the game on this #meetthemakerweek run by @joannehawker ! Here it goes! •Who• I am Danielle Valerie Green! I am an illustrator with a passion for animals and babes. I love my 3 cats Gus, Bruce and Dale Cooper very much and they inspire me everyday. I spend my days in my studio living the dream! I love ramen and watching horror movies or listing to true crime podcasts. I am a huge marijuana advocate. •What• I make all sorts of arts! My passion is watercolor painting. All of my creations are derived from my hand painted art. I turn my illustrations into stationery, various sized prints, enamel pins and brooches! My specialty is cat wears, but I do love all animals so very much. When I am not creating I am working on personal commissions, responding to your emails,, run social media accounts, mailing lists, wholesale orders, play with my cats and take walks with them. •Where, When & Workspace • I am lucky and get to work from our home studio. We moved from our apartment in Bushwick, Brooklyn to our cute little house in Jersey a few years ago. I do not miss the rent one bit. But I do miss the subway. I loathe driving. Usually I work from 7am-9pm. The joys of being a sole business lady boss. I like to work on a clean flat surface. I often tidy the entire room before I can get started on anything. I like to hang art from people who inspire me. I share this space with my husband so I have to put up with some metal posters, otherwise it would be all animal art. When I was a kid I wished my arm hair was fur so bad because I hoped I could turn into a horse or a cat. Thanks for reading along and learning about me! Where you a weird kid too? . . . . #art #illustration #illustrator #pinmaker #maker #meettheartist #artist #instaartist #makerspace #makerspaces #makerspacenorth #artiststudio #whereiwork #creativespace #meetthemaker #createeveryday #pingame #pingamestrong #pincollection #brooch #broochoftheday #pinoftheday #flair #flairgame #pinswag #pincollector #pinlife #pinstagram #pinsanity #abmstyle #abmlifeiscolorful #bandofun #cylcollective #myunicornlife @etsy

We’ve seen 3-D printers shift from cool niche products to supposed must-haves. But are we achieving the dream or just printing tchotchkes?
After a brief love affair with 3D printers, I realized that they kinda aren’t the best for libraries (especially rural libraries). Expensive, time consuming, flaky, and not the best way of getting patrons more engaged with technology or science-geared learning. In a lot of the libraries I’ve worked with they tend to end up collecting dust in a random corner.
List of my Lithuanian scicomm articles in 2016! / Mokslo populiarinimo straipsniai rašyti 2016
Last year I participated in a science popularization program through media, with technologijos.lt - one of the main online science & technology news sites in Lithuania.
I published a total of 12 articles on citizen science, open science & historic Lithuanian scientists! It has been a truly inspirational experience :))
Below are links to all the articles (alert: all in Lithuanian! Use Google translate if you can’t read Lithuanian yet :p ):
Citizen science / Piliečių mokslas
Mokslo atradimai ne mokslininkų rankose: jei Angry Birds pabodo, pats laikas išbandyti fantastiškus „piliečių mokslo“ žaidimus
Kaip „ekstremalus“ piliečių mokslas keičia pasaulį: visus nustebinę Londono tyrimai, Kamerūno gobšuolių sutramdymas ir daugybė kitų pavyzdžių
Open science / Atviras mokslas
Legendary Lithuanian scientists / Legendiniai Lietuvos mokslininkai
Pssst, I liked these ones the best!!! (Science) memoir addict.
Me and three friends are trying to set up a makerspace in our town, but it ain't easy 'cos we're BROKE and so is the town. :D Would you like to donate a bit of money and get a cheesy 3D-printed souvenir doubloon for your trouble?? PROBABLY
