on my second viewing of obsession, i had the realization that nikki’s story at the party wasn’t the movie using incest as an easy shorthand for making the audience uncomfortable or creating a general “things are off” vibe but was another way the real nikki was crying out—a metaphor for the fact that nikki, like gretel, is being made to fuck her “little brother” (bear) under duress, at the behest of an external magic (the witch’s spell in her story; obviously, bear’s wish)

dare I say that the concept of “boundaries” as it’s used in mcyt spaces is indicative of the poor understanding of consent many of these ccs have or are we going to keep pretending it’s acceptable to outright threaten your audience with targeted harassment if they don’t conform to your rules

finally caught up with tvl and while it is unambiguously a weaker narrative than s1-2 so far i really am pleasantly charmed by how well theyve managed to capture lestats mediocrity. mid song after mid song… hacky one liners… louis truly chewed him up with “read the first ten pages of every book, pass myself off as cultured” because you can just feeel the difference in the media references lestat makes and in the WAY he makes them. this isnt even to call lestat classless but well. louis is veryyy almost aristocratic and strives to portray and COMPORT himself as such. and its just fascinating how different their backgrounds. aristocrat with no class or money vs new money struggling to establish himself as legitimate. louis’ mortality was founded on the pursuit of money as a way of measuring himself as an equal whereas lestat’s was suffering by virtue OF his “nobility”
