so I figured out a workaround (sort of?) to getting the Mushroom form while Sozo is still shroomed. I was fucking around a bit and retrieved a Mushroomo from Anura as a part of the Sozo quest. Before Sozo ate them, I had the Mushroomo mate with another follower so they got an egg that ended up being a baby in a mushroom form.
I wanted to test my theory that 1) Sozo wouldn’t eat a baby mushroom follower and 2) he wouldn’t eat them as an adult either, likely since they’re not the Mushroomo I got as part of the quest. I was right in both parts, Sozo didn’t eat the baby and when the baby grew up Sozo didn’t eat them.
Interestingly enough, the baby was still considered a Mushroomo and I couldn’t customize it, i.e. give it a necklace, change robes/form/color, etc. I could change its name though but that’s about it.
The mushroom form still isn’t unlocked by any means but so long as the mushroom followers mate, you could hypothetically have mushroom followers in your cult without fulfilling the whole Sozo quest. I guess my next test would be whether or not a Mushroomo mating with another follower will always 100% guarantee a Mushroomo baby—or if I just got lucky.

So I rescued this follower from being sacrificed and they were an eagle.
So NATURALLY I named them “RAHHHHHHH ‘MURICA”.
And now he’s proceeding to BULLY another follower with “pranks” (ie. making him eat poop (twice), asking me to send him to prison, etc.)
I can’t tell if I love rahhhh ‘Murica or hate him.
