Hey, y'all. I did a tutorial on a relatively easy and cheap process for making armor with a tree/wood texture, in case anyone's keen to do a green knight costume or something elfy/woodsy fantasy or medieval groot or a suit of cottagecore armor anything in that vein. Hope it's helpful!
Leather quilting/cutting tutorial for my Arya leather skirt panels!
1. I started by quilting the leather with a backing of taupe duck canvas. It’s grid of about 1.5” regular squares with single lines of stitching. I didn’t take a picture at this stage for the skirts, though, so you’re seeing the double quilting lines of the doublet on the sample which you can ignore. Use upholstery thread and a leather needle on your machine!
2. About an 1/8” in from the quilted square, use a fresh Xacto knife blade to carefully cut a slit in the leather (but not through the canvas) on each side, leaving about 1/8” uncut gap at each corner. You will develop a feel for cutting through one layer but not both, and it’s important to change your blade right when it starts to feel a little dull. I went through about 4-6 blades per panel.
3. Cut 1/4” notches at a 45 degree angle at the corners of each slit (marked in blue). Make sure to cut all the way to the slit so the corner is free to curl up.
4. After doing a bunch of these, run your hand back and forth over them to encourage the leather to curl and pronounce the texture. And start to realize and appreciate how much time the costume artists on Game of Thrones put into all the garment details 😅.
As requested on twitter, a breakdown of my feathering process! I focused on high-level techniques and considerations, since the actual act of gluing feathers and cutting fur is pretty straightforward. I hope this is helpful!
I feel like cosplayers should know about Pleaser heels????
The fact more of them don't shock me?? Especially since so many cosplayers love that ~sexy heel aesthetic~ but normal pumps just aren't practical for cons
Platform heels (Pleaser brand is the most widely known & accessible so I'll be using them for this post) are so much different than just any old heel you can use for cosplay. They are mostly used by strippers and exotic dancers, performers, etc. But they are platformed so the difference between your toes and heel are next to nothing while still giving you the appeal of sexy heels and legs. And since they're literally made for performance and crazy dancing and acrobatics, they are way easier on your feet.
If your character is taller than you are, they can also add a few inches to your height so easily. Most people can wear 4 to 7 inch heels without trouble right off the bat- I can wear up to 9 but that's because of experience walking and dancing in the shorter ones and working my way up.
They come in SO MANY colors and styles and sizes, most of which are eligible for Amazon Prime:
Even if one of them doesn't come in desired color/style???? Make some covers for them shits! Or paint them!
It is generally recommended to order a size down with these types of shoes, because they stretch out. If they end up too small you can use a hot blow dryer on the plastic strap to conform them to your feet as they cool.
And if your feet are fickle like mine and blister easily, a bandaid over areas you're prone to rubbing does the trick. Or socks.
So yea, I love you fellow cosplayers so take this stripper secret from me and please save your feet!

Quick easy tutorial on how I made my Poison Ivy top! 🌿💚
Started off with faux leaves and a cheap bra
I pinned the leaves to the bra in the pattern I wanted to give it shape and good fit
Then I used hot glue to connect the leaves, and peeled the finished look off of the bra
Then I added modestly leaves to the back for no slips 🤣
Then I applied adhesive to the leaves and my skin, and was ready to go!

Bringing up my Mop hat/mob cap tutorial because I noticed the Macrophage from Hataraku Saibou also wear them. Sew the elastic casing/circles closer to the outside to make the ruffles smaller and the back bigger to better fit the Macrophage. Good for Touhou characters as well!
