I actually have a generic sort of fantasy AU that @ferventsilence and I have been plotting around for a WHILE. I also have another that’s also fantasy, but set in feudal Japan instead of western Europe that I’ve plotted out with @tertiaxdecima! But I can talk about that one later if someone else asks. I’m not sure how well either would work in a more strict “D&D” setting though. The one I have with Shin is super cliche but it’s fun, so WHATEVS.
1) This AU is set in a world where all magic is now highly feared and misunderstood after a cataclysmic event that happened only a few centuries prior with dark mages and the god Unicron. As such, people who exhibit magical affinity are highly prejudiced against, even if their magic isn’t rooted in darker sources. The severity of that prejudice varies from kingdom to kingdom, though the largest is the oppressive empire of the Primes. (Several kings who came together to form an empire they all govern and exert their power by force)
2) Megs is a former soldier/knight equivalent turned prisoner of war after the kingdom he lived in was conquered by the Primes. He was forced into hard, manual slave labor.
3) Megs is not a magic user, or have magical affinity, however he finds a very young, orphaned Soundwave, who is discovered to be a mage. He takes him in, and raises him regardless, keeping him safe from mage hunters.
4) They meet Elita, an elven noble woman, who was in an arranged marriage with a Senator for political reasons. Turns out she, like most elves, is also a mage. She helps Soundwave learn to manage her powers and she and Megs establish a relationship.
5) At one point Megs actually dies in the revolution to overthrow the Primes, but is resurrected by a mage healer. This opens the door for him to be possessed and used as a vessel for Unicron when he returns. HOORAY.
