Childhood Cancer Awareness month is upon us. The entire month of September is dedicated to drawing attention to a cause that is all too familiar to our family. On 2012, our son was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. He was so sick it was terrifying and then the chemotherapy hit him like a ton of bricks. He went through hell at at age 5 to 7 and then beyond that for maintenance therapy. We are grateful he is alive. We are grateful to all who helped him. Many kids are not so fortunate. They don’t have mediations that thoughtful hardworking researchers developed to save their lives from childhood cancer. Please know that if our son had gotten leukemia@in 1952 instead of 2012, he would have had no way to fight this cancer. Hard work and dedication to finding treatments is the key. Two years ago, The Calvert Family was honored by Concern Foundation for our aggressive stance on ridding the world of Leukemia and Lymphoma. Today is an auspicious day for our family and we feel it is important to remind everyone that cancer has not paused for this pandemic. We are continuing to fight for cures and we have joined the fight against COVID19 as well! We have all taken a financial hit during this pandemic, some more than others. It sucks. My mom was a tough little lady from Newark, New Jersey. Standing close to 4’ 11”, she packed a huge punch! She worked hard for my brother and me. She always wanted the best for us. She taught me many many things about how to make it all work. I miss her all the time. Her optimism was infectious and her constant love for her family is present even today. Miss you, Maria!
