It’s Breast Cancer Awareness month and I want everyone who lost someone to breast cancer to comment and show your support for those fighting today. I lost my wonderful mother recently and she is with me everyday telling me to fight on! She fought for my son when she was healthy and fought for herself to the very end. She battled hard for many years, but the chemo and radiation were no match for an aggressive intraductal carcinoma. I miss her everyday. More research! More awareness! More screening! I urge you to get the information and fight to cure breast cancer! Call the office for information at 1.310.777.8800. #breastcancersucks #breastcancerawareness #susangkomen #concernfoundation #mariolemieuxfoundation #cityofhope #drjaycalvert #boardcertifiedplasticsurgeon #rhinoplastyexpert #beverlyhillsplasticsurgeon (at Short Hills, New Jersey) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3FJqU7HReg/?igshid=155bhf82j5kld
I decided to participate in my first race:
and document my experiences in training for it...because I am not a runner by any means. I have the endurance of a...I can't think of anything cool to relate to right now, but let's just say after 5 minutes of light jogging: I'm winded.Â
And I'm not a smoker, I don't drink that often either. My vice?
Food.
...and the fact that I do not work out at all.
The most physical activity I do is at work when I am walking around my store helping out customers and training employees.
So this race is going to be my motivation to get fit, get healthier, and all for a good cause.
The race I am training for is next year's Pittsburgh Penguins 6.6K Run and Family Walk. I know I'm a little early to be preparing for it considering this year's race just happened on Sunday, October 5th. But believe me I needed to start like yesterday.
I chose this particular race because not only am I a huge Pittsburgh Penguins fan/love the city of Pittsburgh, but I love what the race stands for. Profits go to BOTH the Mario Lemieux Foundation and the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation.
Both work with UPMC and the community to create a better world to say the least. In case you didn't know, the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation works with the community's youth by providing different programs in which they can learn more about safety in sport and become more physically active. And the Mario Lemieux Foundation works towards cancer research and better overall experiences of patients in hospitals and other medical facilities.Â
How could I not support these two?!
I'm excited to get involved and potentially pick up other races in between now and then in order to challenge myself and my training process.
Plus it'll be interesting to see how I may change in comparison between today and a year from now.
