Any updates on that game you were making??? 👀
Long story short- the project is not dead. Its just got placed on the back burner like a lot of other creative endeavors I have. Right now on scale of priorities its on par with two comics I want to write and illustrate- and neither of those have completed stories or scripts either.
What made me pause was frustration. I fell into the same trap I do with a lot of projects- I go too big and bite off more than I can chew and burn out. A lot of it had to do with not knowing how to code. So I started to teach myself to code. And then I learned how weird and convoluted Harlowe was in comparison to other languages. But I kept trying to dance around actually learning CSS or python and trying to find something that will do a lot of the work for me. I think I’ll just need to accept that if this is something I want to accomplish I will need to bite the bullet.
I also am an artist. I am truly a toreador when it comes to being consumed by the details. sigh. I wanted to incorporate visual elements too soon. As a result I found myself dodging finishing the script to draw environments...again.
So its not that I stopped. I think about this project a lot actually. I just need to really take a step back and finish core parts of it- the script. THEN I can move on to adding code. Then I can add pretty things and appease my inner toreador.
But here are a few screen shots from the process from when I paused in like... JUNE??
Turned the above into this:
I also made this complete menu scroll for a short chronicle I ran:
And utilized the history code feature- where the game remembers your answers :)
but if you click “Yes. Let’s start the story”
So I hope to get this moving again in the winter time. RN I have a lot on my plate and won’t be able to focus on coding probably until November. October is inktober and I will be spending a lot of time on that.
